Post-Match Reaction: Swansea City 0-1 SAINTS
S-Clarke replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
We love our 1-0's at Swansea. We've totally turned our season around, no one at the club panicked and we're not reaping the rewards of that. I really like Romeu to be honest, I think he's a damn fine player. Clasie is growing into a key component of our setup and Virgil is class. Still plenty to look forward to. -
I'd have him back, Wenger's management of him has been a disgrace. He'd be so better under a manager such as Poch for e.g
-
If FCM are as nigglly and time-wasting as they were against us, then it won't be straight forward. Although they have lost their top CB to celtic..
-
upwards of £70 i think, I'm sure I saw £78 quid somewhere. Crazy really.
-
What the hell? Not sure if this is a serious post or not?
-
Have you seen what they're being charged though????
-
Everton winning 2-0 v Newcastle. They've really got to start picking up points soon.......but I still think their back 4 is absolute ****, yet all they did was buy offensive players. Seems as if they're taking a score more than you approach. But they can't score either. Up **** creek.

Koeman and Wenger post-match 'bust-up' in the tunnel
S-Clarke replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Spurs do look excellent, they're nailed for a top 4 in my opinion - but they will mount a challenge for sure. I like their spine and how they play, i say it with gritted teeth though! -
You're so eloquent with the way you put your views forward and dismiss others. I think you're always going to be on the ropes at times at Arsenal, but keeping a compact shape for a good % of the game does help. I felt we were well organised and disciplined in our positional play. we were caught out once or twice, and luckily we had Fraser between the sticks - but I think our general display was deserving of a point.
-
I think he's seen as having a future, but he does need to start making a name for himself. Is this possibly his first loan? But I think he's a typical fox in the box type of finisher, seems to be in the right place, right time. Hopefully he can rack up the goals and get the same level of accolades which McCarthy is getting.

Your memories of the great Saints/ Southend love-in....
S-Clarke replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
There was a similar game against Walsall. We needed a win to go up and Walsall needed a win/ or to hope results went there way in order to stay up. In the end, we won and went up, results went their way and they stayed up. I remember (possibly even before our game finished?) the stadium announcer confirmed Walsalls safety over the tanoy. Which was an odd move, but that was a serious party atmosphere! -
Koeman and Wenger post-match 'bust-up' in the tunnel
S-Clarke replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
They're not any better off than they usually are at this stage though. They've just had a crappy Utd and Chelsea side, which has made their position look a little more comfortable. They're not going to win the league, City will, probably 10 points ahead. They just don't have the mentality when the pressure is on, it's the same every year. -
I think the first thing we do in the summer is 1) make sure we tie Koeman down 2) sort out Wanyama sooner rather than later and 3) get the obvious Mane transfer sorted out early doors. Personally I'd like us to go down the quality over quantity route. Top CB, Top CM and top attacking player. Enhance the spine right through the middle. Maybe a 2nd right back, but keep it simple - but let's not lose anyone other than Mane please.
-
Possession stats are meaningless, how does that equate to the fact we deserved to get thumped? We clearly didn't. It's down to us that they struggled to break us down, we were very compact and tight - not much space for them to play in. We were more than happy for them to have the ball in non-threatening area's, and that's where most of the stats will have built up from. At the end of the day, if you go to Arsenal and take them on with their passing game then you will get thrashed. Arsenal will out pass most teams and will have more possession most weeks, but that doesn't equate to results. As CB said above, we had low possession v Arsenal at home and we thrashed them. 35% possession to be exact. You're doing our display an enormous disservice if that's what you think.
-
Maybe didn't quite mean just run the channels, but I see him as part of a front 3 - one of the wide players, playing off of a central striker. So he'll be required to get wide, run down the channels and make space etc - but the freedom to make things happen as well. That's where I see him as a player, but who knows if we'll get to see him for a prolonged time doing that.
-
Hopefully he gets a hat-trick and brings out his ''dodgy knee'' celebration aimed at the directors box.
-
It's hard to say about Juanmi really, he's not had enough consistent minutes to gauge a real opinion on him. I think he's a Jay Rodriguez type player, someone who can play off Pelle and run the channels - I don't see him as a number 10 or a central player, which is where we seem to shoe-horn him in at the moment. I think there's a good player in there, but unless he can find himself a position that suits him then I think he'll be back off to La Liga.
-
Thankfully the people in charge of the club don't panic, as I believed they wouldn't. I think the way we've managed both Cedric and Clasie this year has been good, they're slowly growing into this side and we look a lot better with them in it than we do without. I know a lot of people see the name Shaqiri and get excited because he's a name, but if you actually speak to some Stoke fans they are actually pretty underwhelmed by him - bar 1 or 2 moments he's been pretty average and anonymous according to them. But football is an incredibly transient sport, there will be ups and there will be downs. How clubs deal with the low moments will shape the future.
-
10pts clear of 5th now, but there's still alot of football and 10 points can evaporate very quickly. I think they'll be in Europe next year, but they'll still need to have a decent gap come end of March time in the top 4. Just have a feeling that they'll hit a patch at some point and Utd will claw it back. But still, makes for a very interesting season.
-
I think Mane is having a bit of a patch at the moment, he's been rubbish for weeks in his ball retention and use of it in key moments. Long deserved to keep his plcae as he has been terrific. But we could have really done with Mertersaker back there tonight, as they would have really played on that.
-
To be honest, if not in the summer, then the season after...I can see Lallana ended up at a Newcastle or Stoke level of club (or ourselves, but that won't happen...!). It's never happened for him there, hard to say why, but when you look at all the players who left us, they all look half the player. I think we really defined the word team, we had a group that just worked so well together and it's a shame they were all tempted by the $$$$ as they had something good together here, sod them saying the ambition had gone etc, they just wanted more dollar.

Koeman and Wenger post-match 'bust-up' in the tunnel
S-Clarke replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
True story though, it's always someone elses fault according to Wenger. It's the same old Arsenal, people were getting excited thinking this was their best chance etc etc, but the reality is that they're exactly the same as they have been for the last 6 seasons. They'll finish top 4, but they don't have the punch to finish at the top. Too weak through the central area physically and mentally. I think everyone can see what they need, I can only imagine how Arsenal fans must feel. -
Let's not forget Spurs either by the way, as much as some will hate it. Such a strong centre to that team.
-
I think Kelvin, because it was heroics - much clearer chances than Arsenal had tonight...and we won the game, that makes it the winner. Although both terrific displays.
-
Fair play Leicester.
