It's unlikely he'd go all the way there as well for any initial talks, you'd usually have most parties linking up somewhere like London (esp. with the distance between soton and newcastle). The fact that a player is signing for Newcastle for e.g, doesn't mean they have to go there for any initial talks. Football is a country-wide game, and agents/club rep's often travel around to talk to prospective targets.

I'd imagine efforts will be going on this week to ensure we have an extra option, as Fonte doesn't look healthy it has to be said. He won't be fit for Saturday anyway, I'm sure of that. But either way, the back 2 next week will be Jos and Yoshida imo - any new guy would be on the bench.

tbf I don't think many of our players would have stopped Chelsea in that 40min spell they had. Sometimes you've just got to hold your hands up and accept that they are light years ahead of anything we have, and they played well.
