Or 'arry giving an interview on his driveway, or outside of his panto saying how he'd wouldn't rule himself out, and that with £200m to spend he should be able to keep them up next season.

You appear to have detracted from your own argument here. Tadic was great when he first arrrived under Koeman, and during RK's first season. His form dropped in the second season for much of it as I recall, and towards the end of the second season there were rumours that he had fallen out with RK and might have sought a move away. Agree with you that Tadic was part of our problem last season, but credit where it is due he did step up and take responsibility during our run in, and looked to have responded well to Hughes. Whatever else is said about either of them this is something to be thankful to them for.

So is he written off already then ? Assume this is Hermann, who is described on Wikipedia as a MF rather than an out and out striker by the way. Although this doesn't make a difference to how often he is selected of course, but might put his scoring rate into a slightly different context.

Realise the point you're making, and that you didn't magic up this statistic but it's hardly "all time" so much as since Opta and others have been recording this for the Premier League/geek era. If it were all time then I expect others, Paine and Sydenham in particular, would be well up on that list and ahead of most of those mentioned. It does reinforce Davis contribution to Saints though over the last six years though, which many overlook.

Hopefully we are not just basing it on his performance against us: Yes, took his chances, and that's something we struggle to do, but he won't be facing defences routinely giving him acres of space. Still if Ralph rates him and thinks he can get him fit and motivated, then that's fine, Can't see RH being told who he's going to sign by Ross.

Great academy players who never made it in the first team
Badger replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
From the early promise of a "Terry Paine" type cross which was high praise, to putting his own name of a p!ss poor corner. Quite a fall from his potential. -
Good. The buggers need a shake up, and RH will sort them our although I can see a few dropping of as he decribes between now and the opening of the transfer window. Get the impression one or two may bring in letters from their mums (or agents more likely) with reasons why they should be excused from extra training.

Great academy players who never made it in the first team

I remember being told that Steve Neville was a great prospect as a traditional type winger who (as it was described to me) could put in a Terry Paine quality cross. Saw him come on as a sub once, he had a turn of pace but little else. Spent his career at Bristol City, Exeter etc. -
Was waiting for his speech ... something along the lines of not eating, down to the bare bones at times,

Interesting points you raise. Yes, Agboola was a sweeper, though I don't recall him playing alongside Armstrong too much. Having brought Wikipedia into it, I've had to resort to Chalk & Holley's Saints History book. Armstrong did play 26 league matches, but mostly up to 23rd Jan as a regular, he only played four more after that. Our teams v skates in the Cup (end of Jan), and for the semi final at Highbury were: Shilton, Mills, Dennis, Williams, Wright , Agboola, Holmes, Moran, Worthington, D Armstrong, Wallace. I'm not sure where Holmes was playing, very well could have been central defence as Dennis (lb) and Armstrong (lm) would be taking up his preferred positions. Bit hazy on Ken Armstrong, but I don't recall him as anything too dodgy, if anything fairly average/reliable but unspectacular.I think we were relatively mid-table when he was last a regular. Agree with you that it would be harsh to list him alongside the Callum Davenports of more recent times. Shame about Agboola's fall out at the club though, he appeared destined for a great career with us, but his career went down the pan on leaving.
-
Good point - he did. Although having started the season alongside Mark Wright I think he'd been displaced in the team by about December by Agboola who formed a pretty impressive pairing with Wright. Having said that when your CB's are Wright and Agboola and we allow a dwarf like Heath to score against us there remain some questions, but certainly Wright/Agboola were light years ahead of the present circus.

I think Ken Armstrong cost us c £30,000 and we sold him at a profit after a season. Not sure the comparison is entirely fair on Armstrong. As for JV , I'm amazed by his lack of co-ordination, and that he's such a wreck, his stats from the Bundesliga when quoted on here were quite impressive in a fairly strong league. He's an international with on the face of it a decent pedigree, is it Hughes and his staff's famed defensive coaching that have brought about his fall ? Even if the coaching and tactics are wrong and not helping him, one area that is lacking seems to be body strength, he was like a stick insect trying to hold onto the Cardiff bloke yesterday, we might as well have had Charles Hawtry or Kenneth Williams as CB at that point,. JV looked to try holding him back, christ he didn't even have the strength or co-ordination to bring the bloke down.

That's fine in theory, except: -they won't come cheap -will be difficult to prise them away from their clubs -will they want to come into a relegation dogfight in a new country; not the most exciting prospect is it? - worryingly, Vestergaard was highly rated, and someone posted some stats as to his clearances, blockages etc at his previous club, and from that you would'nt expect the nervous wreck we have deeloped him into.
-
Ralph now knows the level of sh!t he has to deal with.
-
Who else is available to him to fit in with that description though ? With the reported injuries that seems to be a shuffling of a fairly limited pack.
-
"yeh, bastard might beat me over a 10 yard sprint.."
-
Not that anyone ever saw that situation arising on signing him of course.
-
.. and saying .."f^ck it, I need to stop for a fag..."
-
Agree. I think he's the 'Alpine Adkins'...
