Saints v Anderlecht Eoropean Cup winners cup 1976
Badger replied to CLOTH EARS's topic in The Saints
I remember that match, and certainly the furore surrounding this disallowed goal at The Dell. Got a sneaking suspicion the ref had a history of controversy. The name Rudi Glockner sticks in my mind, and that he'd needed a Police escort after a Wales game in Cardiff a season or so before.Think he left the pitch to chants of 'Sieg Hiel' from under the east stand. Also in the car park after the game, we found ourselves walking towards, then amongst some Anderlecht supporters, one just said to me ' that Mike Channon , what a player I'd love to watch him play, one of the best in europe ..' . As this was the 1970's and rival fans seldom exchanged anything but fists and boots, I was a bit surprised .Often thought of how gracious this was compared to our fellow countrymen abroad at the time. -
One of the better yellow and blus possibilities.Definitely prefer the navy blue away as per 2009/10 to the current yellow and blue. The navy/yellow mightalso look good in a Keegan-Air Florida style. Just hope its not a yellow shirt/ blue shirt combination. All black has been done to death now by every club in the land so time to move away from that as well.

No - you sing it, I'll soon pick it up

Don't recall the jingle at the moment, although I'll probably wake up at 3AM and it will come to mind. I do remember at an earlier stage , Solent used to use the Freewheelers TV theme on their sportsday, is it possible that they used a snippet of that ? 'Music' by John Miles has also been disected at various times since the 80's to give a brief musical interlude, might be worth listening to make sure it hasn't been borrowed from that.

Crouch ? Deserves applause for his efforts to keep us up in 2005. Although he did later go back to Skateville so will probably get a lot of grief over that. K^ntwynne Jones deserves to be crucified after his sulk/strike and manner of departure. Best ignore him though. Arry - think he might get a hot recption.
-
Christ they really do take themselves, and their own importance and right to protest and moan seriously don't they ? Forever the martyrs, and grief stricken...
-
Sorry to ask but who is Paul Mitchell and where does he fit in ? Immediate thought on seeing the surname is that the only Mitchell I recall in a Saints feature was Keegan's hairdresser. Trevor ? from memory.

Very nice I'm sure, and would make Tadanari feel at home also. Problem though that it would clash where opponents play in red. Could however wear it at Spurs,Swansea or where the opponents play in white. Will need a third kit though (...£££££...so not altogether a bad idea)

or better still blue (dark blue not royal blue !) with a yellow sash especially if its a reprisal of the Keegan era Or, a long overdue return to amber and black

Go for Butland the gk. -
No, I think his wages at the club could be better used elsewhere. He remains a sad reminder of a previous era where Lowe accepted a dud as part payment against the Bale money. I do however accept the comment below: Last season the name bandied around I read was Tommy Nofingers.
-
Its about the squad, not the eleven. I've yet to hear Adkins say anything about freeloaders that the club can't give away to Grimsby,Bromley or whoever.Perhaps they have taken the kit man , boot polisher and toilet cleaner as well, as they have at least contributed.
-
Talk about a tenuous link to a 'celebrity' (I use the term loosely). But why on earth do the club permit someone like that to go on a beano, having contributed precisely f^ck all.
-
They won't have to witness it now, perhaps we can arrange flat cap black pudding fighting as well at halftime.* *Goodies c1970's.

I was impressed by his performance in the Carling Cup match, but not sure reading others observations over the play offs that he would be up to it. Their GK in the cup game, Heaton looked okay, although I now hope we are aiming higher. -
Interesting summary, and agree with your conclusion; how much easier it is to settle in a side brimmimg with confidence and the right type of senior player to nurture the new talent. Think I'd divide it into three categories, making the breakthrough, making the grade (at what level is debatable), and fulfilling potential.

I've just seen the article, what a load of b0ll0cks !

It was a joke many years ago that Liverpool was really the capital of Ireland, perhaps this proves it.

So no club event to celebrate the season that is open to all then?

Cancelled.Just seen on Twitter Some numpty in Sainsbury's told the Echo the club had made a bulk order of Twiglets for the event so its off. -
Two extreme views, some truth in both though. It was largely down to Jones better signings that enabled the team to move on, Richards, Marsden,Pahars, Beattie. That said, it was also his p!ss poor signings, and their attitude that saw us heading for the drop before he was relieved of his duties, ie Palmer (in his second season with us),Hirst, Hughes,Ripley. He also made some dreadful signings for us - Todd, Marshall (OG). ln the end Lowe was right to remove him, and I'm convinced he would have gone a couple of months sooner on the back of results had it not been for the court case hanging over him. Seems a nice bloke though, and I would not begrudge him his 'success' elsewhere since.

Would certainly get my vote as the best 'team goal' I've seen in over 40years. It is however more than the twenty years suggested by the OP so not up for votes here. In the last twenty years, it has to be MLT's first vNewcastle 1994.

I was always too busy watching the old codgers hanging up the scores on the scoreboard to pay too much attention to the Albion Band at half time. But they are preferable to the bald mincer conducting the entertainment nowadays, what an embarassment.

RAF dog displays. Complete with a guest appearance by the Laughing Policeman.

Were we linked with a GK in Germany ? The only one I recall was playing in the Netherlands. -
okay, perhaps I should only include the big six in that, ( and Everton who are just arseholes stuck in a timewarp and still wallowing in the Howard Kendall era).
