I don’t know the age of people on here, but I’d imagine quite a few sit in the middle aged category. My wife has now lost her Mum, sister & dad in a 3 year period, so was crying & telling the staff she couldn’t lose her husband as well. The advise they gave her for the 40-60 age group was; 1. Give up smoking (I don’t, but they didn’t know that) 2. lose weight 3. Prey you’re lucky They emphasised it’s never too late, within 2 weeks of following that advise you’ll increase your chances of fighting it off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

My father in law lost his fight with the virus last night. Worryingly they now believe he picked it up in the rest home and not in hospital. Doctors were telling my Mrs that it’s going to devastate these places, and that generation. Horrific. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Goliath first series was great, getting worse from second & third series. I found the Ozarks so so. Bosch is great, looking forward to new season. The new Nazi hunter thing was a major disappointment. It’s not just Netflix & Prime, the whole of TV is dire overall. ITV crime stuff used to be great, but the latest thing McDonald & Dodds was infantile and even Endeavour is starting to jump the shark now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Green book was excellent. I’m actually amazed with how much Shiite is on Netflix & Prime. Because I watched football most week nights & went out weekends, I only dipped in to watch the occasional series like Bosch, Sneaky Pete or Narcos. There really is some pony on, Ive lost count of the number of films I’ve turned off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

That’s how I felt for about an hour, had to really force my self to continue watching (not a great recommendation) , but in the end found it quite compelling. It’s the strangest feeling I’ve ever had at the end of a film. Normally it’s , “that was ****e”, or “that was good”, or even “meh”, but this was half ****e half good. Weird. I watched an interesting film last night. “Un cut Gems” on Netflix. I wouldn’t say it was brilliant as I spent a third of the time wondering whether to turn off, but it was weirdly addictive. The ending was excellent and Adam Sandler was superb (as was his mistress’ arse). Reminded me a lot of Mean Streets, lots of noise, action & jerky sort of camera shots/angles. There’s so much going on that maybe it’s one to watch again to fully appreciate. Has anyone seen it, and If so, what did you think? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

They do follow through with it as well. When I completed the form, I fully expected a long wait but fair enough it’s just been refunded on my latest bill. It’s interesting because I did start feeling guilty about doing so. I regularly listened to Martin Lewis and he’s urging people that can (and he emphasised can) afford it, should maybe cut companies some slack as they’re struggling as much as we are. He was mentioning holidays and airlines, said people are entitled to refunds on booked flights & holidays, but could we accept alternatives to help the business. On the back of that I didn’t demand a refund for a flight to France, but rebooked to Canaries in Nov. Maybe going soft, because demanding a refund & then rebooking would have saved me £90. The guys done it before, in Jan they told my Mrs to prepare for the worst and a few days later he was back in the care home. This times different, he seems to have given up. Stoped eating and drinking a few days ago and they’re feeding him via tube. He was on his way anyway and was already admitted for something else before developing symptoms. He’s lost his wife of 67 years & the Mrs sister the past 3 years and the last month he’s been talking about “joining them”. As horrible as it sounds we’re all hoping it’s quick now. Unfortunately, there’s going to be people a lot younger than 93 passing away, and a lot of families going through what we are. For all our differences on here, I just hope everyone & their loved ones come out the other side. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Thank you, & to everyone else who has sent sympathy. She went in to say goodbye to him early this morning, as they’re pretty convinced this is it. She was all PPE’d up and held his hand for 10 mins. He’s vey confused but squeezed her hand occasionally which gave her comfort that he knew she was there. The guy is 93 & had a decent innings, but this is a horrible way to go. She’s in bits at the moment, but is adamant she’s going to work tonight. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Just heard my Father in law has tested positive. Mrs is working tonight & doctors have just told her. No way he’ll be able to fight it off, very sad a lonely end for the guy. He was admitted to hospital with something else & they’re hoping he caught it there rather than the care home he lives in. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It will be interesting to see many of those shouting “look at Germany” will be willing to move The NHS nearer to their model and away from our 1940’s throwback. Chances are they will still scream USA again.

I work for a large European company & about 80% of staff are furloughed. It was delayed at first (they made everyone take a weeks holiday) because the company were worried that some may insist on redundancy instead. They said they’d be looking into contracts & checking legal position. A week later they furloughed 80% of staff, there was absolutely no consultation (but they are topping up wages to 100%). Whether they’re just taking their chances or whether they are on solid ground, I don’t know. As I’m still working I didn’t receive the letter those staff did, but that letter confirmed a change of contract so that may be how they did it. There was no consultation whatsoever. Dear god, some people are really showing what twts they really are. A bloke who sings down our local did a Facebook live show from his garden last night. Many of the locals watched from home with a beer/ wine & there was some banter on the comments. Went on for about 45 minutes, and maybe a bit sad, but it was an ok way to pass early evening. Today, somebody has reported him to Facebook and he’s been warned regarding copyright breaches. They told him someone reported him and he needs to cease doing it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

But is it proportionate NICE make decisions year after year on whether drugs are affordable. The upshot is that some drugs are considered too expensive and as a result of that decision, people die. Put basically, there’s an equation made between cost & life. Nobody seems to be asking whether trashing the economy & the pain, misery & hardship is worth it to save X number of deaths. Thousands die on our roads every year, if we banned cars, people would be alive that would otherwise be dead. However, the economic & cultural cost of banning cars makes doing that disproportionate. Nobody is asking important questions of the Government. How many deaths do they think a total lockdown is saving compared to a partial one (old and vulnerable only), and what is the economic cost of one, against the other. How many people do they think will die, that wouldn’t do in a normal flu year. There’s also questions around whether the advice needs to be country wide. If there’s hardly any cases in a county, Cornwall maybe, should the total lockdown be the same as in London. They’re also not particularly clear whether the lockdown is purely to keep the death rate within NHS tolerance or whether the lockdown means less of us will catch it. I’m not saying their approach is wrong, it might well be right. But far too many people are just accepting their narrative . Journalists & opposition that should be holding them to account are just reducing themselves to Gotcha moments around PPE, tests etc, instead of asking fundamental questions of the policy. My point wasn’t about deteriorating health, it was about older people who haven’t previously exercised starting to do so recently, and then being stopped from doing so. There’s also the issue of consent. Pretty much everyone, save a few numpties, have stuck to the advice. Whether they’ll continue to do so if there’s a total lockdown is open to debate. The Government allow the sale of cigarettes, which we know kill people & stretch NHS resources, but aren’t going to let my 77 year old mum go for a daily walk in case she catches Covid. It’s just not sustainable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Are you being deliberately obtuse? A fitter healthier population, will ease the strain on the NHS long term. Around here, there is definitely an increase in people walking, running and cycling, particularly in the older age range. If this becomes a habit & people enjoy it so much they continue after the lockdown, is that not a good thing? If only 25% of 50-70’s lose weight & continue to exercise post lockdown, that’ll save a lot of money in the future. Nobody knows, but I’d hazard a guess it’ll be more than locking everyone in their homes will save. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

They’re in danger of making the cure worse than the disease. One of the only positives of this whole thing has been more & more people cycling, running & walking. It’s been particularly heartening seeing old people walking around my local park, there’s normally a few with dogs, but there’s loads of newbies recently. If people are staying fitter & healthier, that must be a good thing. In crude terms will the number of people dying due to a few people not following the advise, be higher than people who won’t die of heart attacks etc in future (because they’re fitter). There’s also the consent angle. People have by and large, accepted the restrictions, I’m not so sure they would if it became more draconian. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Good luck with that.... You’ve got absolutely zero chance of this making a blind bit of difference to attendances. 3 weeks after the restart it’ll all be forgotten. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Britain's Next Top Prime Minister - Labour Leadership Election 2020.

Sir Keir Starmer, he’s going to go down a storm in labour’s northern heartlands of Camden & Islington. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I think they’re still following this herd immunity thing, but without trying to frighten the horses by admitting it. In the absence of a vaccine or keeping people in lockdown permanently , how else can we defeat it. I presume their endgame is a large population immune without the NHS falling over. Sir Max Hastings reckons it’ll end up with the old & underlying health condition people staying in lockdown and the rest of us avoiding them & taking our chances. The ones with a high chance of dying from it, shielded and the rest of society carrying on. As a country, I’m not sure we’ve got the stomach for that. I thought the immune certificate as a good idea, but the more I think about it, the worse it seems. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I can’t see what the alternative is. It won’t be Boris Johnson announcing a sudden end to the lockdown and it’s all back to normal. As you say, once there’s some sort of certification to say you’re back to normal you’ve got a golden ticket. Not just holidays or going to pubs, livelihoods will depend on it. Decorators & builders etc with the all clear certifications will be in demand, winning contracts over others stuck at home . The job market will be skewed in favour of certificate holders. Small independent shops where the owner has a certificate will open, whereas others can’t. The incentive for people to catch it would grow & grow. What happens to the people working at the moment who have never had it, will they be sent home. Both me & the snap dragon have continued to work, are we going to be told “thanks for working when most weren’t , but you’re not certified clear so home you go.” That’ll go down like a lead balloon if it’s just as the pubs are re opening. I honestly don’t think the Government have thought it through and I certainly have no faith in them coming up with a sensible solution. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

What’s the alternative? Nothing will be back to normal until enough people are immune or a vaccine becomes available. If I was a betting man, I’d back the first of those options. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
