Le Tissier: "Cortese is not a nice human being"
norwaysaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Perhaps the club could have confirmed or denied that Cortese is not very nice. -
A lot of people try to start up small cafes that would compete with Starbucks, but most of them pay their taxes fairly and end up going under because they can't compete with a big company that's avoiding paying tax. They would be creating jobs as well, Starbucks didn't invent cafes and jobs in cafes, cafes and cafe jobs would still exist without them, the gap would be filled by businesses that contributed more to Britain.

Has Mayuka ever played on the wing? I see him suggested to play there on a lot of match threads but haven't heard that he's done it before and Adkins has never put him there.

I haven't heard anyone say "football is racist", perhaps you could give a few examples of where this has been said. I have on the other hand heard people say that there is racism in football, which is undoubtedly true. There's racism in all walks of life because there are ignorant people around. football needs to take steps where there is racism, just like other sections of society do, and against any form of unfair discrimination. The situation may be much better than it was and there may be lots of people who, like David James, have managed to progress without problems from racism. But we all know it exists, we all probably know somebody who is racist, so the issue isn't over and will probably exist to some extent well beyond our lifetimes. Football's not racist, but there is racism in football and it should be addressed. Most black players and managers are given equal chances, but it shouldn't be taken for granted and efforts to promote racial equality shouldn't just be dropped. I haven't seen it said on here or anywhere else that black managers don't get a chance, you'll have to provide a link, but a lot of people working in football will face discrimination and there's no reason that should be tolerated just because it's not as bad as it used to be. Is it your opinion that people who have witnessed racial discrimination in football should be "shouted down", because you could be in danger of giving that impression.

I'm not sure of the point being made on this thread. You seem to be pointing out that improvement has been made and people's attitude towards race has become more tolerant and fair. You also seem to be supporting that this is a good thing. Yet at the same time I get the idea, maybe wrongly, that you are not keen on exactly the sorts of groups and projects that have pushed for this kind of change in perspective. People haven't just changed miraculously over the last 20 or 30 years, it's the result of a deliberate attempt to educate and to foster understanding about race and racism. It would also be naive to think that you should just stop encouraging race tolerance and equality now that things have improved. It definitely is better than it used to be. that's down to people being more PC, not "PC gone mad", just being more PC. In many cases now, probably most, black people in football are treated exactly the same as white people. That's good, but in some cases there will still be racist individuals who will not be fair, so race awareness programs should certainly not just stop. It's not an issue that's just "finished now", because it's improved.

Both very young and both having a cracking year, possibly both will be in the top 50 before long. Nice to have a bit of depth there, it's a long way between Murray and the number two man (208th) but there are three women in the top 100 now and two of them very much on the way up. Apparently no British woman had got to a tour final in 24 years, now Robson got to a final and Watson won one in a couple of months.

England came 8th last time out, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands got the fair play places for this season. England were second the year before that, with Norway first and Sweden third. Could definitely happen, but way too many variables between now and then.
-
This could happen, although we'll probably qualify outright anyway.

Isn't it great to see that all of those anti-racism campaigns have had such a positive effect. There used to be a problem with racism and now there isn't. Hope they keep up the good work and don't let things slide back to how it used to be. I agree with this, although I think you would have made most of those posts.

Hooray! Racism in football's been mended! What shall we do now?

what is wrong with these people..........

Hardly anyone posting on here and the ground looks half empty (or half full), I guess everyone is watching it in the pub.

Loads of empty seats.

I don't have any problem with nudity and don't think it's offensive in itself, but there are plenty of laws I don't agree with and you can't just break them because you disagree. Enough other people have wanted that law to exist and so far there is no majority wanting it gone, so you can live with it. The problems of nudity everywhere come from other situations, there's nothing wrong with kids seeing a naked man walk past really, but what if he's got an erection? You wouldn't feel so comfortable then. You wouldn't want to sit on a bus seat with a visible skid mark either. I wouldn't want to be sat down by him if he was standing in a crowded train either. Funnily enough my kids were watching a Swedish childern's DVD the other day of a story by Astrid Lindgren, it came in a pack with some Pippi DVDs and the story is well known over here. in the film, that was probably made in the seventies, there is a scene with twenty full frontal naked blokes running out into the snow, everything on display. The kids thought it was hilarious and there was nothing at all offensive to it.

I just want everything to go back to how it was before Cortese got involved. Our club has only gone downhill since he got involved and the downsides of his way of doing things have far outweighed the good.
-
Does anyone else get Hypochondriac and Delldays mixed up? In my mind they're almost exactly the same person. I don't know if either of them is offended by this, but I've tried to mention it on a non-contentious thread to avoid offence. Their posts are very similar in content and style.

Any animal that would escape if it got the chance is not your pet. The point that you can keep it alive for longer than it would live in the wild is a silly one. You could put a human in a cell and keep them alive until they were older than average life expectancy, that doesn't make him your friend or make him prefer captivity. Given the choice, the animal would leave you rather than be with you, so it isn't your pet. Dogs and cats that would come back to you if you let them out are your pets, it's a mutual relationship.
-
I have never heard so many ridiculous reasons for keeping animals in cages and tanks. If you have to keep it imprisoned, it's not a pet. It's very nice for you that you enjoy looking at it in its cage, but it doesn't love you and it doesn't want to be stuck there. Your tank that's bigger than the little ones in the shop is nothing compared to the sea. I've met people who justify having caged birds because they let them fly around the room sometimes. Are they insane?
-
I have never understood the idea of keeping an animal in a cage or a tank and saying it's a pet. these creatures would escape from you as soon as they got the chance, why is it in any way a good thing to capture them and keep them? Possibly not as unpleasant as caging birds, but it's a close thing. They are not your pets.

U21s - Saints vs Stoke City - Today @ Staplewood - 14:30 KO
norwaysaint replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Surely his nickname is Butthead? -
I've seen a few people talking about him playing on the right. Is there any reason for this? Has he ever been a winger? We never suggest putting Lambert on the right, what's behind the desire for Mayuka to play there?

I left the UK at 28 (just shy of 42 now), but it was to be with my the girlfriend, which made it easier to settle in over here. I could never move back to teach in the UK as I have always been amazed at how much less administrative work there is in teaching outside the UK, both in international schools and the Norwegian system. It would be horrific to go back to that now. Most countries have ex-pat groups you can probably find on the internet. I worked in an international environment so I kind of slipped straight into an existing English speaking social group and could develop my social life from there. I always feel like a foreigner in the UK now. I kind of don't fully belong in either country I suppose but Norway feels like home now and I'll never move back even if my marriage were to break up. Maybe I could retire to the UK, but I think I'd miss Norway too much if I did.

I don't think she's that great either. It's amazing how many blokes just see blond hair, a reasonable figure and make-up and say wow. Her face is nothing special at all. I think most girlfriends I've had have been prettier than that and I'm nothing special. My wife is far better looking. Seriously, look at her face, there's no wow there at all.
