I thought he was too frugal.
He made some good managerial appointments - Dave Jones, Hoddle (at the time) and WGS but when we needed to press on he, for some reason, took the cheap option with Wigley when he'd already decided he'd made a mistake with Sturrock. If we'd appointed a half decent manager and spent a bit of cash on a centre back we I don't think we would have got relegated.
He later compounded these mistakes with his ludicrous attempts to play the saviour when he ousted Crouch which may ultimately prove to have done more harm than we could have imagined at the time (I'm pretty confident we would have won the play-offs last season but the minus ten put paid to that and I'm pretty sure Crouch and Pearson would have kept us in the Championship without losing the support of the bank).
So, overall, I think he was poop as he failed to capitalise on some relative success and then appeared to go mental towards the end causing all manner of damage.
