  1. 2 teams get 1 point over 2 matches and 1 team (out of 2) gets 0 points over 2 matches = multiple top-four teams to all just lose match after match  http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/match-report/341168/hartlepool-united-v-portsmouth Portsmouth must make do with a place in the Sky Bet League 2 play-offs, after their automatic promotion hopes were ended despite a 2-0 win at Hartlepool United. Pompey, already assured of a play-off spot, were harbouring pre-match hopes of making the top three but wins for Accrington, Oxford, and Bristol Rovers keeps them out with one game to go
  2. Leicester were 5000/1 at the start of the season with the bookies (who know a thing or two about odds), and most would have agreed with that. Hardly a ridiculous comparison. The odds of the DFCSBs overtaking 3 out of 4 teams with 2 matches to play were long, but nowhere near that. Maybe about the same as a mediocre second division team going all the way in 1976 and beating Utd in the final. For you to say that something that was unlikely to happen, was never going to happen, is ridiculous.
  3. By that logic Leicester's bid to win the league was gone 38 weeks ago.
  4. What are you on about? If Oxford or Accrington had lost today, and Bristol Rovers drawn or lost, then the phew could've overtaken them on the last day.
  5. The good news for them is they are winning. The bad news is the teams above (apart from Plymouth of course) are also winning. Automatic promotion is fading fast.
  6. Well, I for one hope he does as he's told and eats all his carrots.
  7. He's stinking rich anyway, so not much of a concern. And hopefully he'll do a Moyes and be sacked after one year at his new, bigger, (impatient) club. BTW, here is a complete list of the trophies he's won as manager: .
  8. You should invite the West Ham squad over to sign the cast. Make sure your room isn't well ventilated.
  9. I'd take Pearson back, as the fitness coach. He seems to have set up something special at Leicester in that regard, which has played no small part in their spectacular success this season. Pellegrini is out of our league.
  10. Exactly. I don't understand the logic of prioritising qualifying for next year's competition over actually winning the bloody thing, especially when you're only two matches away. Yes, I know, money, but City are hardly paupers.
  11. Atletico cancelled the buy option for £1.5 million in order to sell to the highest bidder. Reed then negotiated hard to get TA to sign for us, but he (TA) strung him along before deciding to go to greener pastures. I don't see how Reed is to blame.
  12. Liverpool focusing on the EL will hopefully cost them valuable PL league points. West Ham, um, maybe a virulent flu strain can cause havoc there for a few weeks.
  13. If we beat them at WHL it's game over.
  14. Here it comes.
  15. Here comes a 89th winner for Eriksen
  16. Romeu**
  17. Just like us for most of the 90s.
  18. It's the perfect final for us. As you say, Palace will rest players against us, and if Utd win it frees up an EL spot if they finish top six.
  19. I doubt we'll be as gung-ho in our attack as we were today against a piss poor Villa team. Also, we had a record run of minutes without conceding, so the ability is there. Plus big Vic will be putting in a shop window performance in front of the back four. We may lose but I doubt it'll be by many.
  20. Surprised no-one has mentioned that Utd winning is good for us in Euro qualification. They are now one win away at Wembley from freeing up an extra EL spot (assuming they finish in the top 6).
  21. Apparently. Congratulations!
  22. Eighth: Will qualify for Europa League qualifiers if Liverpool win the Europa League and finish seventh, and Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six, and Manchester City qualify for the Champions League Suppose Utd win FA Cup and finish in top 6, City qualify for CL, so no cup winners in EL. So we have 1-4 go into CL (let's assume City are in this top 4) 5 - EL (Utd say) 6 - EL (West Ham say) 7 - CL (Liverpool) 8 - Nothing, nada, zilch, diddly squat (If City finish outside top 4 and win CL, then they convert that EL spot to CL, but 4th becomes EL. So again 8th gets nothing). What part of EL/CL winners finishing in an EL spot loses that EL spot don't they understand? In that case it's 5 CL + 2 EL, not 5 CL + 3 EL, dammit!
  23. They do. For example, for the first one "Fourth place in the Premier League will definitely provide Europa League qualification if...Manchester City win the Champions League but finish outside the Premier League top four (unless Liverpool finish fourth and win the Europa League)" No, it's Manchester City winning the Champions League AND Liverpool winning the Europa league, and BOTH finishing outside the Premier League top four. If City alone win in Europe then it doesn't matter where they finish, 4th will be in CL. Basically 5 CL slots are allowed, but not 6. "The 5th place description is saying that City winning the CL will mean 5th is a CL place not an EL one, so that's accurate too." It isn't. City winning the CL doesn't convert 5th into a CL spot (unless it's occupied by City themselves, or Liverpool after winning the EL, which would apply to any other position anyway). I'm not going to go through the others and explain the differences.
  24. Or correct.
