Saints before Lowe...Saints 6 ManU 3
Dark Munster replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
You mean like sacking NP (1.23 points per game and steadily improving, with overwhelming fan support, despite inheriting a demoralised squad) for purely egoistic reasons, and replacing him with a Dutch amateur (0.96 points per game) with no experience in English football? -
Not half as ridiculous as Lowe judging, and getting rid of, NP after a grand total of 13 matches (averaging 1.23 points per match).
-
what is lowe getting out of being here?

That's not as mad as it sounds, if one believes the reports that Lowe uttered the words "lucky bastards" (or words to that effect) when Stern John scored the goal at the end of the season that kept Saints up. -
As the old saying goes: Relegate us once, by getting rid of a perfectly good manager and replacing him with an incompetent amateur yes-man (Sturrock/Wigley) ..... shame on you. Relegate us twice, by getting rid of a perfectly good manager and replacing him with an incompetent amateur yes-man (Pearson/Poortvliet) ..... fück you.

You mean apart from essentially sacking Pearson (1.23 points per game) for purely egoistical reasons and replacing him with a Dutch amateur (0.92 points per game)?
-
We would know if Lowe hadn't forced him out, and replaced him with a couple of amateurs, for purely egoistic reasons.
-
Um Pahars writes a lot of sense here about NP.
-
Don't worry Lowe is going to admit he got it wrong!

I wonder if this is the same source that also predicted the Champions league quarter/semi final draw last year? Does your source do lottery numbers by any chance?
-
Well, according to Lowe, it's better than 16 points from 13 games (NP's record that got him sacked).
-
Pearson only lost 3 = shouldn't have been forced out.
-
Who's hero-worshipping him? The point is, he shouldn't have been sacked. He achieved a decent 1.23 points per game (considering the rubbish he had to work with), and Saints finished on 54 points (no team in any league anywhere has been relegated even with 53 points). He wasn't lucky, Leicester were unlucky to go down with 52 points. BTW, even if Leicester had scored against Stoke, NP still would've saved us (Coventry would've gone down).
-
Our best bet is 6-6-4 and hope the ref doesn't notice.
-
That's better, thank you, although I "corrected" NP's points-per-game. Asterisk (*) means sacked for being crap, and double asterisk (**) means being forced out for not being a Lowe's man. Relegation was the result of Luggy's removal, and history could be repeating itself with NP's.

Also known as the "Pahars Clause".

Norwich 4 Saints 5 (The start of one of the greatest escapes). Listened to the result on a crackling short wave radio. I had no idea what the score was that day, and I heard "Norwich 4..." and my Saints supporting life flashed before my eyes. Visions of Saints definitely doomed and financial ruin (err, a bit like today). And then after what seemed an eternity "... Southampton 5". Cue dizziness and total disbelief.

Sturrock's record at Saints: P13 W5 D2 L6 (1.3 points per game = 50 for a season in prem). In some of those matches he had virtually the whole first team out injured. Agree with the comment about Wigley though.
-
Yes. KD and Bart were out, and third-choice Poke played while injured. Reasonable excuse for NP's only tonking as manager.
-
But watch that self gratifying smug grin vanish (along with his shares) when Saints plunge into administration!
-
Spot on. Followed closely by getting rid of Nige and replacing him with Jan. Notice the similarities? In both cases man he got rid of was a competent manager (for Saints) but wasn't "Lowe's man", and so was replaced by Lowe's man (an amateur). Relegation will possibly be the final outcome in both cases.
-
It goes from bad to worse, doesn't it?
-
... and Lallana?
-
It does make you wonder why he was offered a 1-year deal (with an optional 2nd year), when he was already on a perfectly good (for both parties) pay-as-you-play contract? :smt017 Oh, maybe to placate us idiot fans by being offered three days before Andrew Davies was sold.

It wasn't just giving up, Kent made a ridiculously generous declaration if I remember correctly. Kent losing to Durham, and Hants drawing/beating Notts will deny Notts the title. And as a bonus, Kent get relegated. Talk about poetic justice! Don't declare Dimi! Provided Durham win, why give Notts an even microscopic chance of a win?

Well let's see after 13 games if JP has a better league record than W 3, D 7, L 3. (16 points).
