  1. Fonte was class and lead the backline well. Seaborne didnt appear any better than what we already have at the club. However he's young and may get better with time. Ostemebor was very average and I'm pretty sure was at fault for their goal. He got skinned a couple of times and only Millwall's poor finishing meant they didnt score those occasions. He also seemed hesistant to go forward at times. Willing to give them time to bed in obviously. However when Lambert, Connolly, Jaidi and now Fonte came into the side you could immediately see they were a class above what we already have. On first impressions Seaborne and Ostemebor don't have that quality I'm afraid.
  2. Just bought my tickets for this. Psyched. Hoping for a good showing from a rested and revitalised Saints. There's been a fair bit of snow overnight and this morning in London. Hoping this won't affect the game on Saturday. Think its meant to warm up a bit on Friday. Will be having a few bevs London bridge way beforehand.
  3. Southampton FC presents: Jamie White and the 7 dwarfs.
  4. Can anyone who was there give us a mini review of Murty's return from injury? Appears he played 90 minutes. How did he get on? Did he look out of shape?
  5. As long as he can put his past injury problems behind him we could be a looking at a formidable strike pairing. COYR
  6. Sloppy and lazy journalism, that is the only reason he isn't in there.
  7. You classified everyone posting an alternative point of view to you as wrist slitters, that was what i was responding to.
  8. You're being delibaretly selective. Shall I rewrite my final paragraph for you? Don't let my anger be confused with my general outlook on the team; Pardew should be given more time, the squad is good enough to move up the league and I’m sure we will eventually turn a corner under this administration. This does not mean I’m going to accept anymore patronising and worthless “battlecries”. What part of that is confusing you? In my eyes being tired of these sorts of stories does not mean we want Pardew to be sacked, players to be publicly hung or any other dramatic conclusions you've assumed. Some people are on this board, like me, are tired of these stories, that does not automatically place them in the 'Pardew out' camp. Alternatively you can tell me which particular part of Hammond's "We'll put it right" piece really struck a chord with you?
  9. I couldn't disagree more. I am so tired of reading empty rhetoric from players after every bloody defeat. We've been getting fed that tripe for the past 4 seasons, coinciding with our steady decline down the divisions to our current position; clearly these "battlecries" mean sod all. Unfortunately the new look OS only archives stories going back to the end of last season, but if you were able to go back through the previous seasons you'd find stories like: Le Saux: "We'll do it for the fans" John: "We'll bounce back" Quashie: "Anger at defeat will help us recover" Euell: "The lads will come back stronger after defeat" I mean what??!!!!! Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. Sadly this season's OS offerings appear hauntingly similar to the last god knows how many seasons of sh*te. Why don't you all stop patronising us and actually report something factual rather than the usual guff. Now I'm not picking on Hammond in particular, clearly he's had a good start to his career and was only commenting on the game in the only way he felt he could. But forgive for being a little tired of this empty sentiment; I've just about had enough. Both the OS and the squad should put an end to this sort of story, I'd rather the players said absolutely nothing and concentrated their efforts on actually winning a few games, rather than thinking up some empty platitude that hasn't already been used by a Saints player in the last 4 seasons. Don't let my anger be confused with my general outlook on the team; Pardew should be given more time, the squad is good enough to move up the league and I’m sure we will eventually turn a corner under this administration. This does not mean I’m going to accept anymore patronising and worthless “battlecries”.
  10. Worst Saints gift - any calender as by about June every bloody player in there has been sold on. Not much fun having someone like Theo Walcott or Gregory Vignal on your wall in October when they've already buggered off. Best Saints gift - Saints mats for my car, two for the front seats, two for the back. Really smart black with red and white trim and a little Saints crest in the top right hand corner. Bloody loved them.
  11. Song for Papa Waigo... To the tune of 'Hey Macarena' One goal, two goal, here comes Papa Waigo, Three goal, four goal, here comes Papa Waigo, Five goal, Six goal, here comes Papa Waigo, Heeeeeeeyyyyy Papa Waigo, alright!!! Anyone? ... Hello?
  12. No guarantee that he'll settle or adapt to League One football, but if it does work out he could just be what the teams crying out for. No matter how successful his Saints career turns out to be you know he'll score at least one absolutely stonking goal, followed by an ace celebration involving back flips and/or dancing by the cornerflag. Bring it on.
  13. Smurf? Are you serious? Papa Waigo N'Diaye is arugaby the coolest name I've ever heard for a footballer (apart from perhaps Papa Bouba Diop) and you want to give him a lame token nickname already? I will be calling him by his full name, Papa Waigo N'Diaye, at every conceivable opportunity.
  14. Sometimes these transfers go right to the wire and you don't hear about them until hours after the deadline has passed. So, all hope isn't enitirely lost...yet. Bright side of life? Anyone? ... Hello?
  15. When asked who I supported on a Vietnamese beach by a local guy I said Southampton, naturally assuming he wouldn't know anything about them. Upon hearing my reply the only thing this guy said was "Matthew Le Tissier". This was about one year ago too, way after he had retired.
  16. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/aug/28/matt-le-tissier-small-talk MLT plugging his book again. He may have been a great footballer but clearly he doesn't know any decent jokes. Still a pretty interesting read.
  17. Even whilst performing the moonwalk with his eyes closed the Brentford defender still managed to win the header.
  18. Opinion of Colchester fan my friend knows through work. When asked to describe Dean Hammond his response was... 6ft Brown hair One footed **** Trophy wife Comes from the East Sussex region No chance of playing at a higher level Injury prone Brilliant. Lets hope it was just sour grapes.
  19. It's quite a "revolving" door they've got going on at Norwich. I always knew Gunn would eventually bite the "bullet". I guess all those goals that Colchester "rifled" in last week led to Gunn's downfall. Gunn must be so depressed, I hope he doesn't "shoot" himself. You have to admit, Gunn's Norwich really were "pistol-whipped" last weekend by Colchester. I'm sure sacking Gunn was an "uzi" decision for the Norwich board I doubt bringing in another new manager will "gunpowder" over the cracks within the club. I think I'm losing my mind.
  20. Bristol Rovers supporting colleague at work thinks we've got a real bargain in Lambert, he's gutted. Cracking signing. Keep 'em coming Markus!!
  21. Fulham, a good little club who always seem to do well punching above their weight, ala Saints in the Prem. It wouldn't have been the same though.
  22. Speaking of MLT, check out this piece of football what-ifs from the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/jul/24/joy-of-six-football-what-ifs Number 4: What if MLT's volley had dipped under the bar in his friendly appearance for England against Romania? I guess MLT's whole career is characertised by what-ifs. Oh, and if he was around today he'd probably command a £16 million transfer fee.
  23. Didn't 'Arry sign Fuller when we went down to the Championship?
  24. As others have stated if you ignore the billions of pounds we’re merely a league one club starting on -10, so getting a manager who’s British, relatively young, experience of promotion from league one and the championship and someone who’s got a point to prove is pretty good in my book. The important point that remains to be seen is whether the Charlton debacle was a one-off failure in his career or whether it was synonymous with his personality and management style, showing he has some alarming flaws as a manager. I've read that he can be a difficult man to get along with, is quite arrogant and has a canny knack of always having a 'Arry Redknapp style excuse ready to apportion blame elsewhere when things go pear shaped. He’s been known to stick up gimmicky “inspiring” statements in dressing rooms, such as “...by putting in 4 more crosses a game you increase the chances of scoring by 20%”, or words to that effect. Taking a quick look at an equivalent Charlton fans board shows he’s not a popular man in south east London. His signings also seem to be expensive and a bit hit or miss, slightly concerning considering he may have quite a large transfer kitty. However you could argue that a fresh start here at Saints is just what he needs to prove his critics wrong ala WGS. I’m not trying to be negative for the sake of it, just playing Devils advocate by presenting an alternative viewpoint. Regardless of all this, he’s still a darn sight better than Tony Adams.
