"we are the poison in your human machine"

from the brief glimpse I got of the prat I dont think so. Looked like he was wearing full matching leathers, and possibly a pannier and rucksack set, my guess at the time was that he may have been a courier, especially given that he was heading for london at full tilt. I was trying to stop the van turning over so might be wrong, but that was my impression. He certainly used up one of his nine lives tho

tried the chickens feet yet? Good luck mate

Kubrick, unless you have a particular interest in the mafia. Dr Strangelove, of course, but also The Killing; that was a terrific noir, and I love the tickertape filming. Great stuff.

ooof I love this comment in the article thread: "It is obviously an attempt to "attack" his neighbour.....I bet they have had some kind of disagreement before." no shlt, sherlock

The most frightening thing that ever happened to me in the van was on the M40, londonbound near warwick services. Heavy load in the back, tootling along at a steady 70 in the middle lane going past slowish traffic on a sunday morning. Car in front pulls out from the left lane to go past a trailer, I check the mirror and pull into the fast lane to go past him. No drama, no problem, but while I was pulling out I saw a tiny speck of light in the far distance, at least half a mile back. Car goes past his trailer and pulls back into the left lane so I start indicating and gradually start moving back to the middle lane. This is a sprinter van, so no rear window. Halfway into the centre lane I suddenly caught sight of something going very fast on the inside blind spot, and swerved to avoid hitting it. It was a bike, and clipped my offside door mirror. He had come up behind me at an absolute minimum of 140, and decided to undertake while I was changing lanes. I nearly lost control of the van. It was suicidal. I managed to get the van back away from the central crash barrier, pulled into warwick services and phoned the police. Dont know if they ever got him.

lol, apparently you'd of had to do some serious drinking to live up to it;) and I love these lyrics- There´s a rumour going round says you’re gonna split, they say you’re going away, it´s a midnight blitz, but there´s only good in leaving with a suitcase full of loot ‘cause where´s all the good times in a pocket full of I.O.U.s Take the cash, don´t let them pay you in kind, take the cash before they change their minds, and let´s see the colour of their money – take the cash It´s a secret operation, don´t want this getting out, so watch it, watch it, watch it, if the payment doesn´t bounce, it´s the sweetness of the readies, makes the bell ring on the till, and if they say they’ll pay next week, you know..... they never will And if they try to tell you there´s a cheque in the post, you know, you know, you know that you can take it as a joke. Take the cash, don´t let them pay you in kind, take the cash before they change their minds, and let´s see the colour of their money It´s a heavy operation, got to do the job and run, so don´t pretend you trust, and get the money down in front, ‘cause it´s the sweetness of the readies, makes the bell ring on the till, and if they say they pay next week, you know..... they never will.

There was a very good programme by Evan Davies on R4 today about the comparison between tax avoidance and tax evasion. Its worth a listen on iplayer if anyone here is really interested in this stuff. I tend towards the argument that financial institutions dont actually contribute to the national wellbeing, although they do provide the nuts and bolts that make it all function; when they start looking at themselves as worthwhile entities which contribute to the national wealth they seem to forget where the money they invest comes from. There is no product except money, and the profits they make are simply from persuading other people to let them "manage" their money.

My sincere condolences, and sympathy at such a difficult time. Rest in peace Valerie.

lol, Dune is ok imo, but clearly misguided on this particular issue

imho, the only privatisation during the initial wave under Thatcher resulting in a better level of service to the consumer was British Telecom. Public transport is now an utter farce, and before everyone piles in to say how awful it was anyway, when it was run as a public service you could stand at a bus stop on a fairly busy route and expect a bus at regular intervals; I was brought up in Baddesley, and if we wanted to go into Soton centre or Romsey the buses ran every 20 - 30 mins. Nowadays its only a few a day. And the trains were sh*te, but at least affordable, its far cheaper now to drive my own car to central london and back than buy one return train ticket from Soton, wtf is that all about?? and theyre still sh*te anyway, youre just as likely to have to stand.

youre assuming it was her finger. Textbook error, imo; Deano6 only referred to a finger.

....and turkish wins thread on points, split decision....

I'm wondering whether Cortese might not have rethought that, honed in on a manager that knows how to get a team out of league one, and might look to get somebody higher profile once that has been achieved. Sorry to sound cynical.

yes, thats the one. Unless you were aware ahead of time that it was fictional it was very convincing. My wifes mum was absolutely beside herself, we had to drive over to calm her down. A bit like the orson welles war of the worlds broadcast in a way.

thats a point in itself, did anyone see that tv "documentary"- type thing about a plane crashing on the M25? I think it was called What If, part of a series. My italian mother in law phoned us that evening while it was showing, very upset indeed, thinking it was a real incident, and I have to say That we switched the telly on and initially thought the same thing. and fwiw, on 9/11 I was loading some stuff ready for some deliveries that day and hadnt even switched the radio on, I knew nothing about it til my mate arrived to help out and told me something was happening. Didnt realise the scale of it until the evening when we saw the footage.
