  1. The Nine Inch Nails song you mean? Johnny Cash covered the song but it was originally written and recorded by Trent Raznor's band......
  2. I can imagine different people take it up for various reasons but for me it was a chance to be involved in the game at a much higher level than I could achieve as a player. Currently I officiate in the Wessex League and senior Hampshire leagues as well as the FA competitions (FA cup/vase/trophy) which is far cry from the pub teams that I used to turn out for back in the day! It is a tough job sometimes and the abuse we receive is rarely proportionate to the competancy of our performances. I have had some terrible comments aimed at me but fortunately I'm thick-skinned enough to simply smile at them. Interestingly it is worse when the crowd is small; in front of a thousand or so spectators all you hear is a wall of moans but in front of one man and his dog you can hear every single comment!! To sum up, love us or hate us we are as important to the game as the ball itself and I would encourage everyone to take the chance to referee a game to gain an insight into what the role involves.
  3. I think a Hunger Games style tournament would be great using tributes from the various suburbs of portsmouth. It may take a bit of time to complete but would probasbly stop being disappearing down to the concourse for beer etc....
  4. I remember one of my first ever away trips took me to The Manor Ground, Oxford in the league cup. We were 1-0 up courtesy of a Richard Hall screamer and looking good for the win until bloody Paul Moody stepped up to equalise in the 95th minute. That was one of the first time I heard my Dad swear!!
  5. Could be fun. How much are tickets are Sholing out of interest. May sound a bit tight but I'm attempting to buy a house asap so every penny counts!!
  6. http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=148453&part=sports Game is listed here and the site is usually quite reliable. I will be watching on sky but am setting my father in law up with this link as he is not allowed to come over lol!!
  7. Unfortunately there is no provision in law to appeal a second caution-well except in the case of mistaken identity but to be honest there is no chance of that sticking. Harsh as the second caution was there is pretty much nothing that we can do about it.......

    Bottle Lids

I had no problem taking one in on Tuesday evening. That said I do sit in the Kingsland -not sure how the stewards would feel about flasks being taken into the Northam.......
  9. When I heard the rumour earlier today I asked Gordon Simpson of the Echo via Twitter if he had heard anything. His reply was that he had contacted Upson's "People" and they knew nothing of our interest so it doesn't sound like anything will be happening there. That said stranger things have happened so you never know!!
  10. Sadly not S-Clarke. Loan signings are permitted up til 3 hours before kickoff but any permanent deals must be ratified before noon on the day before the match. The following is cut and pasted from the FL's website and doesn't appear to distinguish between weekend and midweek matches: 40.2 Subject to Regulations 40.4 and 40.5, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (other than those referred to in Regulation 40.3) are received (including by facsimile) and found to be in order by the Executive by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match. Shame really as it looks like we will have to rely on our Japan International to fill the gap for the time being!!
  11. I see a lot wrong with playing Billy Sharp tomorrow. Given that he signed a permanent deal after the noon deadline we would end up with a points penalty for fielding an ineligible player!! As for the team hopefully Chappers will be back firing on all cylinders and we can get the win that would restore a 4 point gap over 3rd place.
  12. Sorry The9 but I need to correct your understanding of the laws regarding penalties. You say that there have been several incidents where a keeper has left his line only to see the ball hit the net and a goal awarded (Incorrectly in your view) but this is not a case of referees "Being crap" but the laws of the game being correctly applied. The only time a penalty would be retaken for a keeper leaving his line would be if he was to save it as he has managed to gain an unfair advantage with his actions. If the goal is scored or the penalty taker misses the target the game should continue with either a kickoff (If the ball hits the back of the net) or a goal kick (If the penalty misses the target). You may have guessed that I am a referee by the way!
  13. As Saint Garrett said it helps some referees to distinguish between cards but personally I choose a much better system. My yellow card is in my right side pocket and my red in the back pocket. That way I know where which card is and also let's the more observant players know which they are going to receive as I reach down!!
  14. First link of the day!! http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/92861/1/watch-southampton-fc-vs-brighton-and-ha.html It is also listed on the myp2p.bz website so we should be lucky-I am hoping to get away from work in time for the second half at worst!
  15. Unfortunately pretty much all of them use flash I'm afraid. There is a Justin.tv app available for the iPad though, maybe it is worth trying that?
  16. On the March, That site is just a directory of games being shown around the World-you are unable to view streams directly. Your best bet is to use one of the sites that have already been mentioned on this thread as they have both proved to be more than suitable; I watched the Derby game earlier in the season via firstrowsports.tv and it was virtually tv quality.
  17. That is exactly what I said to my wife while we were trying to work out the answer to question 1-I'm broadminded but have never even heard of a position called the goalkeeper. Maybe it is in the updated karma sutra.......
  18. I'm lucky in the respect that my fiancee (Who will be my wife by then) is a saints ST holder so actually suggested to me that we go to the game and make a mini trip of it. Kind of avoids the hassles of keeping everyone happy really!!
  19. This proves that rory is CONSIDERABLY more talented than Rooney!!
  20. No, we won the toss which meant that we chose ends and Huddersfield kicked off the first half. This means that it was a conscious decision to attack the chapel end in the first half rather than the second-sign of things to come or a decision based on factors such as prevailing wind and rain etc??
  21. There is a round-up of last night's goals on the BBC site now-you need to wait a few minutes for them to get round to our game but it is worth it! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/default.stm
  22. Well let's hope it isn't a backward roll-he doesn't look the most athletic footballer on the planet!!
  23. I signed up for the trial during the week and used the player for the first time this afternoon. I missed the first ten minutes but had no problems connecting and listening to the stream. I don't think I will keep the player though as a: I am a referee and am usually found running around on a Wessex League pitch most Saturdays (Although not at the moment as I am injured!) and b: I live in Whiteley so I can listen to the game on Solent if needed!!
  24. I'm not sure where they got that stat from. At a rough count I remember: 2 penalties, Butters' shot from edge of the area, Morgan's shot from distance, Rickie's header from a corner, Barnard's shot after being put through, Rickie's follow up to Barnards' shot, Rickie's free kick which makes 8 already..........
  25. Tractor saint. I didn't say that there would be NO congestion-just that any you do encounter will be toll-free!! Anyway we are hopefully going to avoid it all by going most of the way on Saturday evening (I am refereeing in Wessex League during the afternoon and going up after) and then staying over on Sunday to avoid the return traffic. Even if we do get a bit stuck it will be worth it as long as we make the kick off
