Maybe we could do something as a tribute for next home game?
St Marco replied to St Marco's topic in The Saints
As said above we as a group should do something. Why should we leave it to the club to do something? And he is entitled to an opinion but as with everything it is one of negativity. And yours is one of defence. I asked him not to post as the point is not about arguing which you always seem so intent to do. The point is as Saints fans we should do something to show our respect for the guy at the next home game. We should not expect the club to act on our behalf. -

In all due respect Dave could you please not post in this thread thanks. I don't want it going the way of all your other threads. It isn't about having one thread etc.. The other thread was talking about how to do a tribute in terms of big gestures. We can't make a statue, and we can't change the name of the stadium or stands. They will be done by the club. We as a group can do something to show our support in a visable way at the next game. Something that is realistic that we can do and do in a short space of time. That is why this thread is different. But as i said if you could not post in this thread it would be really appreciated. -

Something like that. Just something very visable that can show the respect we as a group have for the man. -
Sorry for a new thread but i was thinking as a forum maybe there is something we as a group could do as a tribute to Markus? Re-naming of the stands would be out of our control as it is not something we have the power to do. But as a group maybe we could get money together to do something at our next home game. Like a huge banner, fly by etc.. I think we need to show our support for the next home game and as much as having his face on the banner and signing posts off with WIFM that won't be visable at the game. In the past the mods have done this type of thing very well i.e the player sponsorship and other events. Maybe they could set up some paypal thing where we could donate money and that money is in turn then used to fund something which would act as a thank you from everyone here? Just an idea.

Whatever happens he needs a lasting tribute that can be seen by the generations to come. So they can understand how important he was to this club in terms of what he did. In our history we have had a lot of talkers talking the talk. A lot of people who have taken from the club as much as they can without giving much back. Markus was one of the very few who gave everything to the club and didn't ask for anything back. Acording to the guardians report he cleared the £30m debt around the club. He didn't have to do that, he had no real connection with the club. But he did it anyway and each and everyone of us has been effected in the best possible way by his actions. If it wasen't for him we would not have had a club. I don't think people realise how serious that was. He needs to be honoured and in my opinion there are two ways to do this. Name a stand after him and get promoted back to the PL. Every single player who puts on that shirt must now play out of their skin and every fan that sits in the stadium needs to back them.

I couldn't agree more. I am just stunned and saddened by it all.

What happens now is everyone get's behind the club. No more petty squabbling over absolute nothingness. ML bought into the club because he believed it was a great club with great fans and great potential. He was 100% right. But of late fans have forgotten how to support. Forgotten where we were and how we got here. Without Markus there would be no Southampton FC. It is as simple as that. As much as i hate the scum down the road one thing i admire about them is that no matter what happens until the final whistle they support their team non stop, no negativity. Over the past few years we had nothing to sing about, nothing to be proud about. It had never been so bad. Markus came in and gave us hope. He helped turn the club around. We need to honor him by getting back to what we used to do and make the atmosphere at the games full of emotion and full of pride, raise the roof off and get behind the team from the 1st kick until the last kick, even if we lose. That is what we should do now in my opinion.
-
Totally shocked. It put's everything that has happened over the past few weeks into a clear perspective. What this guy has done for this club will live on forever. He will always be remembered as the guy who saved Southampton, the guy who gave us something to remain so pasionate about. The guy cared about the club and for that i will forever be thankful. RIP Markus, you will be missed.

I loved the last one. I just hope they change the media press conferences as they were a bit crap. It would also be cool if you could do what they used to do in other manager games where once you have done really well and made loads of cash yourself you could buy into a club and become a manager/chairman or hire your own managers as just a chairman. I think that would be a cool extra to the game if you get bored of just managing. When i go to a club first thing i seem to do is try and sort the finances out i.e bring wages down. Try and get it making money. Would be cool if you could have more control over the money making side of the club like some managers do like Benitez/Fergie etc. When your at a big club it doesn't really matter but when your at the non league clubs every penny helps and sometimes the cpu spends it in silly ways. Obviously those things detract from the managing football aspect of the game but it would be a nice addition i think.

I agree with most of what you said. However he has made mistakes and does seem to be a bit power happy. But the things he has done do not effect me. They don't even effect the club. Some people make his actions out to be like he went into an orphanage and butchered everyone or something. What he has done is turn Southampton fc into a business that can stand on it's own two feet. Nearly every company tries to do this. To not do this will oneday bite you in the ass. He has turned the club around from a financial disaster into a healthy business prospect. Turned the club from a sinking ship into a floating beast. The fact is over the course of last year 3/4 very vocal posters on here had it in for him and now they pick up on every little thing and will post it. Some of the stuff is just laughable and they truely believe it. 99% of what has been written by the media and people is based off of rumour. You watch someone threaten them with legal action over their claims and see how fast they distance themselves from it. This is the age we live in, you can make up anything about anyone you want from behind a computer. The vast majority of Saints fans couldn't give a monkies what Cortese does. As long as we win stuff (which we have) and keep going up the leagues he will have the backing of the supporters. A few people on here who are so against him are the same people who are against pretty much anyone at the club over the years. Just change Cortese's name with anyone from our past and your see the same threads by the same people. If GOD was our chairman, made us into the biggest club in the word, we won all the cups and all the leagues. There would still be some tit complaining about something trivial like the colour of the painting in the toilets. People like to complain, simple as that.

And this is why so many people are not renewing. The forum has changed into basically a bunch of friends who have one rule for themselves and one rule for everyone else. Just a matter of time until another group set up a proper forum and the readership here further diminishes. And the sad thing is at that point they will only have themselves to blame. It is like they want people to leave or something.

I went to the Pymouth game with my family. They loved it even though we lost. I am pretty certain most families have no idea what your talking about. They won't read a news article in the sun then get all depressed by it. They however will get depressed by seeing the club in admin and getting relegated divisions/players they like having to be sold. Maybe oneday if you ever have a family you will understand this

Interesting in that telegraph bit where it says bournemouths photographer has not been banned and is allowed to use the photos on their website. I won't deny this whole thing is pretty daft but it doesn't effect anyone other then companies who take those photos to sell to you. In a week or so it will be the next thing and the media will be considered scum by those defending it now.
-
So i guess it boils down to who do you believe. The Sun newspaper and about 4 people on here, or NC, the guy who normally never says a word about anything? hmmmmm tough decision....guys on here who over-react at the slightest thing....or the dude when the club was falling apart managed to put money where his mouth was and actually do something to help us? Poor old media, we should all write a letter saying we back their right to go to an event, take photos and make their bosses loads of money on the back of those photographs. It's just not on. It isn't like these photographers take photos, put them in their papers then expect us to buy the paper to see that photo is it....oh wait...it is....poor old media.

I am not putting it down, just showing people a non propoganda video. The one linked was made by Konami and is cut to make the game look good. They don't show you the game being played out but bits that have been made to make the game look good. And that video was leaked in June. Do you really think they will have been able to have totally change things such as the AI in like a month? As for these previews....They wouldn't happen to be by the same guy's on PESgaming who every year get invited to do a playtest then write up an article about how different it is and amazing from the past years right? Then it get's released and bombs? Here is what the PES mega fans think of it http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=78909 Personally i don't think they share your enthusiasm.
-
Here is a video of leaked gameplay of the actual game. Not one that has been cut up by Konami to make it look good. Now the game is not complete, until you get a complete one can't make any judgements. But hopefully Konami can work on the AI as that looked pretty bad.

Interesting to see lot's of the supposed favs across the leagues lost today (middlesborugh lost 1-3, reading lost 1-2 etc), i wonder if their forums are the same? We never win our first game so guess that tradition was always set to continue. I didn't see anything in the game to be worried about. We played well in 1st half, and played bad in the 2nd half. A draw would of been a fair result as they made some good saves/blocks near the end. However i do think we miss a Antonio/Waigo type player. The players on the bench are a bit on the weak side. A couple of players who can add a bit of flair is what we need and hopefully we can bring them in before the window shuts. 1 game down, loads to go. Not the end of the world.

Plymouth rag annoyed at SFC - non-SFC photographers refused entry to SMS
St Marco replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
That is nice Steve But a ban is a ban no? As i said before, i don't see the problem. Who is going to lose out from this, us? Nope. The media companies who take the photos to in turn charge you to look at them? yep. -

They are banned from the corner right? How is that any different? A ban is a ban.... The point is limiting the media to what they can and can't do correct?. They can't take photos at man city (albeit in designated areas), they can't take them at Southampton unless they are apart of the group who won the right to do so. The principle is the same. -

Just a quick Google and your see man city decided to do the samething after the adebyor incident. I am sure there are other sports that do the samething I.e tennis? Personally i don't see the problem. Having local companies in to take the photos makes sense and in turn helps those companies make money by selling the pictures on. Picture selling has been happening since the dawn of printing. It will not change anything at all by just having one group of photographers. Every game is video recorded and put on tv so its not like your miss anything. -
To be fair we all knew that they would win the case. It was a lot of wishful thinking. But that does not mean they have got away with it. Far from it. They will be bought out by a guy who has admitted he is only really interested in making money. He won't be pumping money in to get the club up the table. The squad they have is very poor and will be made poorer. The way they ran the club will not be able to happen again. They will have eyes all on them from now on. Once the club is sold AA will have to do the investigation into the club that was promised. Nobody will be wanting to put a foot wrong now. The club cheated their way into punching above their weight. They will still probably go down this year in my opinion. I hope they don't as i would like to play them next year. But without someone who is going to put cash into the club they are going nowhere but down. So many clubs go into freefall after these types of things and i expect this time to be no different. They had their day in the sun, they didn't put on sun protection, and now they will burn.

What i meant The9 was sales/reviews/general opinion of the last 4 years (when this gen started) Fifa has been on top. I don't think that is wrong or a fanboy statement? Like i said in my post Fifa each year seem to have tweaked things a bit and generally gone in the direction of improving things. Where as the general census is PES sort of stays the same. And like the eurogamer thing i posted once again the same people are saying the same-thing, "it will be better this year" etc.. The Fifa creation stuff does sound cool. They have some pics of the interface up on the fifa website if i remember right. I am not clever enough to know how to do all the fancy drawing type things that you do

I did one under the name Utaka's Bank Account. Not seen it yet though.

Basically i think the mods have done the right thing. It is not about having your opinions censored it is about having claims about people proven. Some posters on here have become way to malicious of late and when pushed for evidence on their claims offer nothing but insult. If you question their claims they will try and attack you. The sad part of it is that they don't see that is how they are behaving. That if you don't believe what they are saying then there must be something wrong with you. Basically as said before. If you have something malicious to say, want to start a rumour based on something dave at the chippie told you. Back it up with proof. If not then don't post it. If you want to do ilegal activities then do it somewhere else because it is just a matter of time before some dumbass's stupid rumour will effect us all.

I never said i worked in the industry Rob. I said i work as a business analyst. Sometimes i have had to do some reasearch into gaming companies as part of this. I only know what is printed on gaming websites. In regards to Fifa i am a fan of fifa, i make no denial of that. But it doesn't make me biased. Because Fifa is the best game now, it has been for about 4 years. Fifa each year have listened to football fans and improved on their series. PES on the other hand haven't. They have gone backwards. Even Konami themselves are honest that they are struggling this gen. Just the other day their UK head developer guy John Murphy said "What we want to stop is hardcore level of our fanbase moving, if I'm totally honest - which worryingly has started to happen. For years, we sat on our laurels and assumed it never would happen. That's our strategy, plain and simple. What we now have is a benchmark from EA that we've got to beat, which is fine. It gives us a challenge. But that's not our ultimate aim. Our goal is not only to ensure we don't lose any more fans, but that we win back the hardcore fans. The rest of it - we'll see what happens. PES needed a shake-up and that's been brought about because FIFA has turned up and done its stuff. I hope we do get back to [No.1] because if PES ever did disappear and you saw one game on the market I think you'd go back to seeing a very, very lazy game of football that everyone would be sick of." And he is right. What he is refering to is when Fifa was the same rubbish pumped out every year that was designed purely to make money, it was nothing like football. But now he understands PES is that game. They have done what Fifa did. The problem is konami have said the samething the last couple of years now. This time things will be different, we have started again etc.. PES 2010 was supposed to have a whole new engine and stuff but it didn't. They really have to deliver this time or it is probably over for them. So yes i do prefer Fifa. But because it is a better game. Not because i am a fanboy. If Fifa 11 is **** then i will say so.
