It's sad that football has gone the way it has. Players get paid a **** ton of money, sign a new contract and then want to leave. Although it will be difficult I think the club should make a stand as it will stop others thinking the same. Even for £70m I would not sell. As a fan, having a huge bank balance means nothing to me. VVD has obviously had his head turned by Liverscum and its clear the FA would do nothing about it. He has a long contract with us and so we hold all the cards. If Les goes back on his word and decides to sell him it cannot be to Liverpool. We have to stand up to those bullies.

Thought he had signed a new contract not so long ago? Maybe it was just to add/remove some clauses we don't know about.

How would you feel if no one left but we didn't sign anyone else?

Yes I forgot he was with QPR in the PL in 2014. My bad! Either way my point was do we think we can keep him fit for the whole season? Personally I am unsure. If we can then that would be great. If we can't then it will put pressure on young Sam to get goals. -

Has he? He started 11 games last season (4 subs) started 2 games the season before (5 subs). Last I checked the championship isn't the pl no? But if we include the championship he played 16 games. By my maths that's 13 pl starts and 9 subs in the pl over past 2 seasons. And if we include the championship that's 29 games in 3 seasons? -

Huge fan of Austin but he isn't someone who is always fit. Has played less then 20 pl games in 3 years. If our plan is to assume he will play 20+ games this season then it's crazy imo. I think if we go into next season with the squad as it is we will struggle. -

Think it depends on the manager really and if he can get our more average players playing better. We need a couple of attacking players imo. We struggled for goals and I don't see that changing next season with the same squad. -
Iheanacho is a very good player. £25m seems cheap tbh. Didn't he score a couple against us recently?
-
Not quite sure of the criticism of Defoe. He scored double what our top goal scorer had last season. If you think he won't get bompey more goals than you must be mental.
-
Good luck to the guy. Always gave his all for us. Towards the end of last season he looked like he was starting to look good again. Hopefully the club will be announcing some proven attacking players soon or it's going to be groundhog day again this summer.

Can we finish higher than eighth in the 2017-18 season?
St Marco replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
Don't know about finishing higher but if we get more points, improve our dire home record and score more goals I'll be happy. The goal has to be improving over the season before. The good thing is Les said none of our key players are for sale so we should go into next season a lot more settled than the previous ones. -
This Spanish team are awesome. Forza Italia!

I'm not in the know at all so don't quote me. But it might be hot here in Rome tomorrow. It could also rain or be cloudy. Just some news I heard so thought I'd pass it on.

Not sure about him tbh. Whoever comes in will get my backing. But he doesn't like to stay at a club for long. I think I read he has been at 3 clubs in the last two years which doesn't strike me as 'stability'. Maybe he knew he couldn't do any better at Alves so was time to jump whilst his reputation was ok. Problem is he would probably do the same to us. I would prefer someone to come in who wants to be here for a good few years and build something good.

Puel Sacked? - As Reported by Crook of Sh*t
St Marco replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Got nothing against the guy and finishing 8th and a cup final is a good achievement for your first season in England. But if you are honest about it our 2017 form has been woeful, especially near the end of the season. The home form has been atrocious and some of his decisions have been pretty stupid. When we were chasing the last home game and he brings on a defender is just one of many poor decisions he has made. A few will defend his record and mention the amount of football we have played. But since the start of the year we played just as many as other teams and even had a couple of months where we only played two games. All squads will have injuries and bans and we have had them in many of our recent seasons. Even with his rotation policy we were still awful. I could understand it if it worked but it didn't. Yet he stuck to it. When he brought players in who seemed to actually do well they would be dropped for the next game. His style of football just isn't suited to the PL. A league that prides itself on every team being able to beat anyone on their day. My main criticism of him is that too many times we set up not to lose the game rather than win it. And even when we went behind he never changed anything. As others have mentioned we need a clear out. Classie, Boufoul, Hojberg have been poor this season. Davis is getting old, Jay and Austin are always injured and we lost our captain mid-season. We need to invest a lot of money into the team if we are to push on from 8th. However to buy good attacking players costs a lot more than defensive ones. The question is with the takeover in the works would we spend a lot of money this summer? I can't see that happening. -
Time for a new poll perhaps?
-
Utter **** performance.
-
Another poor performance at home. Fail to win this and the guy is gone for sure.

Then don't pick the ones who are not doing what you tell them.... That's what a manger is supposed to do. If they are not following his instructions as you suggest then he would have lost influence on them. -

Fail to score today will mean we have scored in only one of our past six home games. Don't think many managers would survive that tbh. Fail to win this one and he's gone Imo. -
