  1. There are at least three reasons why the guy left He got a better job - unlikely He was not up to the job - Possible He did not get on with Cortese - Possible
  2. I watched the Friends Provident Final at Lords when Daren Powell was bowling for Hampshire in 2007 when we had Darren Powell on the books at SFC
  3. You must be joking he is a good signing He is very good Championship player nothing else lets hope he develops into a good PL one
  4. Well at the moment Adkins appears to be able to attract quality players to the club but that could easily change and he has put one quality player Puncheon is in the naughty corner. Although posters feel that the team is pretty good at the moment and I agree there should be no problem with the being able to compete in the Championship this season with the addition perhaps of a couple of players that is not the point if the main goal of the club is to get to the PL in three years time. As the team is plainly not good enough to do that especially if there are serious injuries to key players. I feel that if the club wants to get to the PL it will have to pay over the odds in fees and wages because of the competition from other clubs and it maybe this factor and not Nigel which is stopping players coming. It is easy to say CMS is not worth £2.5m but in today’s market he clearly is and we seem to have bid for Billy Sharp at £3.25m ourselves and Nugent‘s wages are excessive but we paid high wages in the Crouch/Wilde era too To posters who don’t want to discuss threads sensibly and want to ridicule contributions on the forum I would like to say I am not moaning just saying what I have observed and looking forward to the new season which will be the fiftieth in which I have watched the Saints I don’t want Adkins out and I doubt whether anybody does I am just responding to the point raised on the forum and how I see it
  5. Well he is a big name ex manager and whats more is still alive He was a big name when he signed both Keegan and Ball after 1976
  6. It does seem to be a bit of shambles at the moment really not a lack of ambition as players appear not to want to come here. But that may change and things could look better in a week or two as currently we may be bidding for players we just dont know. Perhaps we should be discussing this thread if nothing happens with regard to transfers in a couple of months time not now.
  7. That is rather simplistic Who is going to give the authorization for money to be spent by SFC. There may well be a budget which Cortese can spend but is he able to make significant purchases when the budget has been spent I dont know it was easier when Markhus was around because he was involved emotionally with the club. But money may begin to flow who knows - it is unlikely that we will get to the PL and stay there with a vast amount of money being spent
  8. You obviously have no knowledge of Project Management then Where Projects are managed to produce the desired results and amended as you say when things go wrong. However I doubt whether it is possible to plan to get to the PL without spending vast amounts of money it is just an aspiration like most of the clubs in the Championship. But now Markhus has gone where is the money coming from
  9. Seems like is everbody is happy apart from the Professor and the plan to get to the PL in three years time. I am not so sure as there seems a lot of clubs trying to do the same thing unfortunately If we are to succeed we will have to spend loads of dosh . We never spent much under Lowe and got relegated we spent under Wilde and got into administration I wonder what will happen under Cortese
  10. Sorry I meant that George was probably playing for Swansea in 1965 when we played Wolves because he played for them before joining Walsall and after leaving Coventry Didnt Knapp also go to Coventry too
  11. Dont recall seeing Wolves playing down the Dell until George Kirby had left for Swansea I think it was. Rather ironic as I remember a game where he had laid out three Swansea players all of whom needed attention with Mr Gallagher our trainer helping one of them
  12. What is there to say that is positive I agree there is nothing negative going on at the moment although some fans are having minor problems getting season tickets and others like my brother are having to pay more because they are in their early 60s But the team is in the same state as it was at the end of last season . I have no problem with that because no doubt some more players will be added before the end of August. However there was/is an expectation that because of the plan to get to the PL in the next 3 years we would have to buy a number of quality players to achieve this objective. It does surprise me that quality players such as Cork and possibly Sharpe have not joined us on our way to the PL.
  13. Makes you realise how small Tony Godfrey was - He could not catch high crosses and continually punched the ball away
  14. I started watching Saints about the time George joined one of my favorite players hard and dirty I remember him laying out three swansea players at the same time . But like you say a real gent I remember meeting him when I was queueing up for a semi-final ticket in 1963 Died rather young in 2003
  15. As older fan I totally agree with Andoverian. By the way you may not agree with him but there is no need to be so rude he does have a point
  16. I am glad you only post three times because I could not take anymore
  17. Well obviously it is a gut feeling as you have little real idea what is happening at SFC with regard to transfers. Like me and other posters you just hope for the best but Cortese is running the club and will do what he considers is best
  18. I dont see the relevance of this post because in 2009 Markus only bought the club in early July and Pardew was only appointed 17 July But now we have a five year plan to get to the PL and I would have thought that planning to bring in new players for this season should have been done sometime ago. Of course I expect we will hear some transfer news in the next few days but if we dont then perhaps the plan is to consolidate in the league this season which has been suggested by a number of posters
  19. Yes I agree but I dont think QPR spent that much when they first were taken over Although if I remember they did have a lot of managers
  20. We are hardly likely to get to the PL with the current squad so I was expecting us to sign a few players capable of getting us there That said we do seem to have a lot of players but I doubt we will get rid of them and replace them with better. I dont really know if Barnard Hammond Dickson Harding Jaidi Seaborne Martin Butterfield Connolly and Richardson will be quality Championship players I know some have played there before but they will be good enough to keep SFC in a reasonable position in the League. So I expect that they will gradually be replaced over the next two/three seasons when we should have a team capable of pressing for promotion So I expect gradually over the next
  21. It is not surprising with our squad in League 1 Adkin's rating is good
  22. Thats how I see it too There is a lot of competition in the Championship and a lot of good managers also looking for players so lets hope we have something to offer them
  23. It is nothing to do with negativity just common sense which on this subject you appear to have none
  24. Try this one http://www.doncasterrovers-mad.co.uk/footydb/loadtmrs.asp?ssnno=140&teamno=184 I think Four Penalties last season and the season before
  25. Been out all day since just after this thread started Is there any truth in this rumour are we likely to get Billy Sharpe?
