I was not discussing Bournemouth I was suggesting that Scott Parker maybe a decent manager in the making I think he could do well with better players
-
I think Scott Parker may well be a really good manager in a couple of years time and I would prefer him to Howe Bournemouth are playing good football at the moment and are well out in front in the Championship
-
It may not be irrational but it is pretty stupid not to play Broja if he is scoring goals and Armstrong is not. It took Adams quite a time to score in the PL and he is hardly prolific but he has proved he can score ten or so goals a season Armstrong as yet has not but of course may well do so in the future. We need to score more goals as we should have scored more yesterday and if Ralph is confident Broja will score goals I fully expect him to play
-
You do not seem to have any understanding of football Saints played quite well yesterday and would have won if Redmond and Walcott had scored with easyish chances
-
Go on explain to me how a new manager would stop players missing what you percieve to be easy goals. Every team that has ever played has missed easy chances in all kinds of sports including myself and probably you that is why they are called chances
-
I do not really understand how bringing in another manager will stop players making individual errors which is the main cause of why we ldo not win some games but that is football I have never rated Walcott but with S Armstrongnot fully fit and JWP suspended there were hardly any stand out replacements who could have played yesterday The theme on here seems to be that the players not picked are bound to be better than the ones chosen and substitutes are going to change the dynamics of the game when they come on The PL is one of the strongest leagues in the world and other teams appear have some really good players so at the moment we can moan about our players but supporting them is really our only option I would have thought
-
Yes I realise that but having followed Saints for 60 years I do not think he was particularly special he did a good job but had more financial support behind him than at any other time in those 60 years. Getting to the Top flight in 1966 and 1978 felt so different
-
Yes we did feel for him but it was the right decision he was never going to succeed as Manager in the PL All the positivity is based on emotion not reality in my opinion
-
He did well at SFC but it was a lot easier to gain promotions when money was no object and we had a great squad compared to today where we have an average squad and no money
-
Pardew got in some really good players never understood why he was sacked
-
Being looked at by Arsenal and Leicester apparently Arsenal 'monitoring Mohamed Elyounoussi transfer alongside Leicester' after Southampton wingers stunning start to season (thesun.co.uk)
-
Yes I agree but we do need a GK sooner rather than later I would be quite happy to sell JWP and get a Broja type striker and a top class DM and GK Getting rid of both Long and Forster
-
There is a hell of a difference between a top Championship Striker and a reasonable PL one Newcastle did not think Armstrong was PL quality otherwise they would not have sold him to Blackburn Yes he did very well last season but his impact this season with us has not shown that he is a PL quality striker like James Beattie Henri Camara Graziano Pelle Danny Ings Marians Pahars Rickie Lambert plus many more He seems to be like Brett Ormerod David McGoldrick and Shane Long strikers who play in the PL and score a few goals but only time will tell Adams is OK but not consistent enough at the moment and unlike Broya has not scored any international goals that I know of
-
Why is Armstrong not Championship quality what has he done to make you think he is PL quality I would suggest that Broja is going to be PL quality and so do Chelsea yesterday was his first Pl start
-
Great Post but most of your posts are usually excellent too Yes experience is a great thing and that is probably why Theo was brought but we have young players who will gain it the more they play
-
Why?
-
They probably got rich by not investing in Football Clubs like Southampton
-
We certainly have had some great players but Paine for me was the best he was so consistent hardly missing games he did not have the skills of MLT but he was a better all round footballer scoring and making goals for well over 15 years
-
I think her judgement was quite good selling 80% of SFC when nobody else would buy it. If we go back 13 years there were no other interested buyers other than her father it does not seem that there were/are people interested in buying SFC with a spare £500m it is hardly likely we are going to then morph into a top PL Club or the area can be developed into something substanstial
-
I do not think any system would work for this set of players as we have no PL strikers and relegation seems to be almost certain I have been following the Saints ever since they were promoted to Div 1 and the strike force at the moment is the worst in over 50 years at least we had MLT in the 1990s when the rest of the team was pretty dire
-
There is no point in having Ron Davies without Terry Paine or John Sydenham to supply the crosses
-
I saw him countless times in my opinion the best all round footballer to play for Southampton I will alwaysremember his three goals in the last four games of the 1966 season to get us to Div ! especially the one at Leyton Orient where he was carried of the pitch on the shoulders of Saints Fans He scored 188 goals in 816 appearances a feat I doubt will ever be beaten From 1958 to 1969 he only missed 5 league games If anybody wants to learn more about him and the great times I had as a Saints fan in the 60s where we went from Div 3 to Div 1 just read his biography Constant Paine Without Terry Paine I doubt we would be the club we are today
-
No Cliff Huxford or Tommy Traynor
-
Paine was so much better than Sydenham him and Chivers got us to Div 1 Chivers went to Spurs Xmas 1967 probably the best Player who came from Southampton he was a Pup[l at Tauntons I would not want George in our team just mentioned him I think you are right about Williams and Ball so I would suggest there iare too many strikers so I would remove Keegan who was past his best from your 111 and replace him with Paine
-
I think that is a great team but Terry Paine is the best player I ever saw playing for the Saints so I think I would replace Stevie Williams with him It was his crosses and Sydenham's too which made Ron Davies such a Potent Goal Scorer But that of course would deplete the Mid Field It is so difficult as we have had so many wonderful players compared to the ones we have today Peter Osgood Charlie George plus others were really good before they came to the Dell and Martin Chivers was really good at Spurs
