  1. jeez no, I just hope he was there buying a yacht, meeting a tart or something. If we sign Hughton it's because we're preparing for life in the Championship again.
  2. Indeed, have any club ever succeded in holding a manager to his contract, it's not the same as for players. The club does not hold their registration, managers can resign, isn't that what we wanted Adkins to do at first.
  3. I'd still like to think he'll stay but that if he doesn't it would only be because the ambition that he was sold 18 months back no longer exists.
  4. Why do we need to sell players to raise funds. We had over 100 million £ in revenue last season. Selling those who are useless to us will be quite enough, anyone would think the owner needs to take money out of the club and as many of you have assured me that that is not the case there's no reason to sell players is there.
  5. it's 2 million £, everybody knows that. We aren't in a position to ask for 10 million.
  6. And in top flight football circles 2 million £ is nothing, nothing at all.
  7. Either Ralph obviously wanted to be top dog or any respectable candidate for the job didn't want to be playing second fiddle to an ice hockey gab artist who obviously had the ear of the owner...
  8. perhaps we can get an Ice Hockey manager then, perhaps Ralph fancies the job himself. Must be crap hot at it because Canada without him got overturned by the French in the recent World Championship. Must have been a case of poor team, great consultant and motivator at the Olympics then.
  9. Well i guess we'll be reading about that on the OS soon then.
  10. Agents can talk to whoever they like about hypothetical positions of managers and players. The manager never speaks to the club involved until he's given permission to do so. The agent does all the spade work for him based on the hypothesis that he would eventually be prepared to accept certain conditions. It's football, the days when Clough and Taylor went round knocking on doors of a sunday morning are long gone.
  11. So what are we going to do with all then ? Don't understand that at all.
  12. Spurs,Brighton, Swindon I think, might prefer south to north.
  13. and why would that be then ?
  14. Of course, I'm a great admirer, but to me he is beyond our reach just now. If we don't have the funds to keep Pochettino then we certain won't have to attract top quality like Benitez, especially as there will be a lot to pay to Naples as likely as not. 4 posts in 7 years, you'll have the ITK detection brigade out on that one then.
  15. ah but did you then march from the Bargate to SMS to express your resentment of the powers that were? Come what may we were reduced to 12000 or so home gates and that's counting the ST holders.
  16. What like in 2008 you mean. That is the ultimate proof that there is a limit to all things as far as football supporting is concerned. Dutch Duo, Lowe,Wilde, team of kids....very unpopular squire.
  17. I don't want anyone that's not given basic proofs in a top national league, Dutch football is poor in general. There are managers I'd much rather have, like Laudrup as I said. My short list for what it's worth would be Laudrup,Poyet,Puel in that order.
  18. Unproven in the PL..no thanks. Laudrup would be my choice, won't want to come for a shoestring budget though.
  19. If Mauricio goes to Tottenham then you can only assume it's because our board were unwilling or unable to do what was required to keep him here because I'm convinced that he wouldn't want to go there otherwise. We have had a few players saying what they thought ought to be done, number 1 was signing Pochettino to a new contract come what may cost wise. As for selling players Shaw looks to be gone, do you think Pochettino didn't want him to stay. Schneiderlin is as good as gone, he's openly come out and said he wants to go but isn't going to ask for a move. There again I doubt that Pochettino wanted to get rid of him. Then there are the issues of Cork and Fonte with Cork saying no-one has approached him about a new deal even though he could in theory walk away for free next summer.
  20. Not such a bad thing if you fancy a quicky in a chilly place...take it from me.
  21. As long as come August they don't wheel out Hunter and tell me he's "the right man for the job" there's plenty of time yet.
  22. Can you not see that it's not about contracts, it's about ambition. What's the point of a 5 year contract at 80K a week if it's to have a choice between 2 not very good academy kids at GK or CB or whatever. MP would have stayed with us (and still might) if the board had been willing to spend what is necessary not to have the awful Gazzaniga in goal ever again, not to have to play Jos accident waiting to happen Hooiveld and not have a 19 year old leggy bambi poncing about at CF because you have no other choice. Any manager worth the name would reject those conditions if he had a better offer.
  23. Absolutely, they've been told enough times by players what needs to be done. Just clueless, all they want is to have a maximum number of kids in the Unders England sides so that Les Reed can get an OBE or something for services to English football, (oh and probably spend a minimum of money and make a maximum profit). Probably why Dodd and Williams got the boot, only 1 player in the England U17s.
  24. Glasgow makes himself scarce, probably not voluntarily, Saint Charlie is up and at us every 20 seconds or so. Coincidence is a strange thing is it not.
  25. Honestly, we earned nigh on 80 million £ from the PL last season, round about 20 million in ticket sales plus the other bits and bobs. If the board can't give the manager a decent operating budget out of all that then I hope they have a bloody good reason.
