  1. not really surprising, we have what 25 or 26 players in our principal group, only 16 can be on the team sheet so every game there will be a lot of players missing.I do not doubt for one minute that when we eventually sign the players we seem to be seeking then a few of the actual group will leave SMS. Wouldn't be surprised to see Seaborne,Dickson,Morgan and Holmes, maybe even Barnard gone by the end of the transfer window or at least by the end of the next loan window.
  2. nope, twas Gail Devers.100H runner above all things, pretty nifty on the flat as well, others might have had longish nails as well though.
  3. probably at the Chilworth Manor Hotel praying in the bushes whilst waiting for a taxi.
  4. sometimes it's a bit unclear. I know that when Gervinho was transferred to Arsenal a few weeks back Arsenal and Lille spent 2 weeks argueing over who paid a few quid to his original club.Probably about 50K in a 10 mllion £ transfer. It obviously has some importance who actually pays it because otherwise there wouldn't be this kind of dispute on a continual basis. My guess here is that Jemal asked for salary parity with Fonte and didn't get it.
  5. there weren't any anyway, haven't been since De Wet and Myburgh turned out to be a right pair of Ali Dias. Our bowling has no bite, it may be useful for restricting sides in wishy washy one day cricket but when you have to bowl sides out twice to get a result we aren't at the races. Oh people will blame the batting but what can you do, they'll be facing 450/500 tomorrow needing a result so silly strokes will be played.
  6. Just seen the highlights as well, thought Fonte looked a bit out of sorts in defence, still it's only a few minutes and you can't really judge on that can you.
  7. no it doesn't but to move a player from one shirt number to another, in this case from 19 to 25, whilst new players have been given at 1-11 shirt at the expense of others (Cork 8,Forte moved from 8 to 17) seems to indicate that at SFC some importance is accorded to shirt numbers, otherwise new players would just get whatever's available and others would keep the same for year to year.
  8. If Seaborne was the partner of choice for Fonte then he should have been given the number 5 shirt and have done with it.The fact that he wasn't is a statement from the club that D Seaborne esq is not considered as an automatic choice for our first XI and that a replacement CB who will be considered as first choice will be sought continually until one deemed worthy of the Number 5 shirt is found and signed.
  9. Probably but the main thing here is the price tag. £1 million for a lad with 6 full internationals on the counter, albeit for Costa Rica and 8/10/12 million for another lad with half a season in League 1 to his name.
  10. well if that had been the case he wouldn't have come down here to talk to us would he? he turned us down (if indeed he did and it wasn't the other way round) for one of 2 reasons: not enough money or at least salary parity with the other top earners (caused more than one non-signing apparently) or no guaranteed starting place, which I'm convinced Lambert has,or at least had in League 1, in his contract. You cannot be as bad as Lambert was at the start of last season and not get dropped unless it's a legal stipulation that you don't.
  11. a quality player perhaps, a nasty piece of work most definitely, you just have to place the borderline where the one outweighs the other somewhere. I guess he's trangressed again, making it once too often.
  12. hasn't been playing for them either, they are probably 2 matches into their season now.I believe someone told us he refused to go back there this summer. Perhaps not the sort of player one should touch with a bargepole really.Still we are desperate.
  13. bride and gloom.................the shape of things to come perhaps. In fact bride and groom all sounds very equine.
  14. I have some sympathy with that. CMS did us last year with pace, but I dont think that there are lots of guys with that pace AND the scoring touch he was in last season. FWIW - Top 10 would be great with a sniff of a play-off place. Nah but you only have to analyse the highlights of the 2 goals by West Brom, Seaborne wasn't where he should have been on either occasion, if he'd have been adequate for the first goal the cross wouldn't have come in, true Bart shouldn't have let is go though. Second goal you can clearly see Fonte bolliking Seaborne for his laxism. How some find him adequate I just can't see. A CB like a GK has to be perfect for 90+ minutes, one slip is all that some of the hotshots we'll soon be facing need.
  15. does this not contradict the 'central defender wanted apply at SMS" thread that you started only the other day? You can't have it both ways, either we desperately need a decent CB or we don't have any apparent defensive weakness. I personally think that our CD as it stands will be totally inadequate for the Championship but it's just my opinion.Seems it is that of several sporting journalists as well.
  16. Fonte gave away the penalty, didn't NA say something about marking on the wrong side? Haven't seen the incident yet though so whether that's Fonte marking on the wrong side or some other player I couldn't yet say. I'm not at all keen on Richardson as a defender, nor Seaborne for that matter but until we get a few matches into the Championship campaign it's not easy to say what are exact defensive weaknesses are. I'd say Seaborne but perhaps even it's Fonte that causes the problems.
  17. what a puerile chavish thread.
  18. one of the drawbacks in having too many players is that you have to give them a run out from time to time to keep them in some sort of match condition. For me we have engaged too many offensive players who have little chance of being part of the real first team apart from a few minutes at the end of matches. Playing them for 45 minutes just clogs up what is an otherwise smooth mechanism.Thankfully pre-season is over, everybody has had their share of playing time so now we can get down to the serious business of the Championship where I hope to see a settled side.
  19. just looked at the highlights fromthe WBA game, Seaborne looks a real liability in those 12 minute; he may have of course put in a dazzling performance in the 80 or so which aren't shown.Any player with a bit of pace and a bit of guile will get the better of him.
  20. I don't think Hammond is signed on beyond the end of the season either. Our pick any 2 from 4 is peturbing them, as NA says they all want to be in the starting XI.
  21. striker was probably Cyril Regis: How do I know this? My flat mate at Uni was a big Baggies fan and we used to go and watch them whenever they were in London as did we with the Saints.
  22. how come Ox isn't in the U20 England squad for the World Cup of that age group then? Must have p*ssed him off a bit, the Euro U21 you could put down to his injury last season but I'd have thought he was a shoe-in for the U20s.
  23. can't really believe they got that the wrong way round unintentionally, if they did what a moron.Just like sewing seeds and stirling work of late.
  24. Laurie Cunningham ?
