Respect is earned. Pinnacle have done nothing to earn my respect. The facts are their consortium has fallen apart once, one guy with money seems to have been sweet talked (by Lynam) into staying in and putting some cash up for exclusivity 4 weeks ago (although even that has been called into question). Throughout that time, we have had no communication of any value, no information on where the club is headed, who will be involved or even who is buying the club. We have been kept in the dark, like mushrooms. All that would be acceptable had Pinnacle actually done a decent job. Clearly they failed to engage with the League in good time and were surprised at the terms they discovered at the end. I suspect Lynam has never brought a football club before and simply didn't know what he was doing. Let's call a spade a spade here. Now we're well past the stage when this needed to be tied up by, and players and coach are in pre-season. Will any of them be there next week? Or the week after? The football team needs to be in place now, not in two weeks. The new manager (is there is one?) needs to have time to work with the squad, identify players to let go and bring in etc etc. Nothing about Pinnacle seems remotely professional to me - Lynam might be a good guy with the best interests of the club at heart - I would be very surprised if that was not true - however don't let anyone delude themselves that being a nice guy that loves Saints is automatically going to be good for our once great club.

Update from Tony Lynam - 16.10 24th June
Red and White Army replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
The most obvious thing missing from Lynam's latest non-update is any assurance the staff will be paid tomorrow. If that was true, I would have expected him to mention it. -
Disclosure doesn't seem to be a problem for investors in other clubs. You are close to this, you want to protect your mate - I understand and applaud you for that. I'm not close to the action and I call things as I see them - and this has looked like an amateurish effort right from the very start. I don't doubt Tony's genuine desire to help, but I've seen nothing to convince me of his professionalism.

It isn't Pinnacle's money, that is 100% clear. Pinnacle have not got a pot to pee in. The money (if it exists?) is from some shadowy, un-named lurker behind the scenes who is too scared to reveal his identity to us. Concerned? You should be. I am.

Hardly. Most everyone was wetting themselves back in May. My questions and concerns outlined four weeks ago are still questions now. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=315498&postcount=205 The situation is unchanged, except we're into preseason and we've had a whole bunch of Mike Wilde style letters after the initial one. Pinnacle's credibility is shot for me - even if they pull this off I don't have any confidence in Lynam to run the club more competently than he had run the takeover. The fact the money guy is STILL anonymous means he can easily walk away at any point. Things don't look any more rosy now than when I was mocked for my doubts last month.

I said the same thing 3 weeks ago. That is the most stupid negotiating tactic I've ever heard. Why bother playing the hand if you've told your opponent you'll fold at the end of the day anyway? I would expect school kids to play better poker than this. It is too late for us to get a proper pre-season in, no matter who eventually takes us over. Some of us do think for ourselves, which is why we smelt a rat right at the start of this deal. Exactly the same way as we saw right through Wilde when most of the fanbase opened up their mouths to deepthroat him. I would love to be proved wrong but all the doubts about Pinnacle are starting to look very valid. And MLT is on the credit side. But I agree with the tenor of your post.

Update from Tony Lynam 1:45pm Monday 22/06/09
Red and White Army replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Completing the deal on time, without losing exclusivity and giving us enough time to run a decent pre-season would fill me with confidence. Trying to shore up the fanbase with meaningless daily updates showing no progress does not fill me with confidence. -

Time to Hear From the Organ Grinder...?

I would say this description fits you, but you can't be described as one of our fans. :tfrag: -
Simple - repayment of the principal. When you renegotiate your 150k mortgage at 8% you don't expect to turn it into a 70k mortgage at the same time? You expect to remortage to 150k at 4%. We are asking the creditors to wipe out a substantial portion of their loans to us, not simply asking to pay less interest.

If the FA went back on their word or changed their position in the three months then I can accept it is not Pinnacle's fault. If they simply didn't bother talking to the FA and not checking then it smacks of amateur hour.
-
Once again, this puts Pinnacle in a terribly unprofessional light. There is absolutely no reason why this needed to be a last minute issue. This should be been discussed and resolved with the FA over the last 3 weeks, if not before. Transferring registration is hardly a surprise event that jumped out of nowhere to shock Pinnacle - they woulpd have known about this all along. The fact they ignored the issue and let it slip past their exclusivity period is not impressive. Once again, the doubts I expressed right at the start of this "takeover" are coming to the fore. I have exactly the same feelings as I did with Mike Wilde - I continue to wish with all my heart that I am wrong this time.
-
My worst fears are getting closer. The Pinnacle consortium has not been at all impressive so far, and if they fumble the ball right at the very start it doesn't look good for the medium to long term.
-
I've seen nothing to belay my fears expressed a while ago http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=315498&postcount=205 Really hope my sixth sense is wrong - I knew Wilde would be a disaster and I'm not getting great feelings about this latest chapter in the Saints saga. Hoping to be proved wrong.
-
Par for the course from that idiot SRS.
-
Pretty funny, nice job! We need to be able to laugh at ourselves in this life.
-
That is funny, because Phil flat out denied being involved in any bids, apart from telling Fat Marc Jackson to "STFU". http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=302151&postcount=17 It was patently obvious that Phil was spinning this forum in exactly the same way Fat Marc Jackson did, just with a little more finesse and a lot better spelling that Fat Marc Jackson managed. He point blank denied it, which was an obvious lie and that is why I lost a lot of respect for him. He went from being a normal fan to someone who spinned and twisted with the best of all the crazies we have had to suffer before.

European election results at St Marys
Red and White Army replied to maxi_sopez's topic in The Saints
The fact that Lowe is long gone and the security guards are still carrying on like that might indicate it has something to do with the small minded security guards rather than our ex-chairman... maybe? -
LOL. Why Phil sticks up for that idiot Wacko Jacko I'll never know. My opinion of phil has gone through the floor during this recent takeover saga anyway.
-
I hope that article is rubbish, but Pinnacle are less than convincing at the moment - for reasons I have outlined in other threads. While not giving credence to that article, I have major concerns about how good Pinnacle will end up being for Southampton football club.
-
I'll believe it when I see it. There are plenty of people with money in the world, and the self-made ones won't be the type to throw money away willy-nilly, which is pretty much what investing in a football club is. Any sort of discounted cash flow analysis is a non starter given our expenses will exceed our income anyway, and even if we do turn profitable at the operating level then the required rate of return on a high risk investment like this would definitely leave the project with a NPV I really doubt a fan would have let us be relegated and start next season on -10 points or worse. I really doubt someone sees us as a credible money making venture given the right capital outlay. My guess is that the new owner sees his investent in Saints as a low cost "option", i.e. the chance of making some money if we get promoted and he can sell us on. I think the chance of him putting worthwhile capital into the club is tiny - our revenues are going to be miniscule next year and we're going to be struggling to break even in League 1 even without many of our highest paid players. I also think the owner knows most fans will be dissappointed when they find out his identity and that is why he is still in hiding.
-
Oh? You know who our new owner is then? And how much he is worth? And how he made his money? Most fans know none of these things, so I don't see how you can suggest otherwise? Given it is unlikely he is a fan I would expect the new guy to run Saints like a business, not a plaything. So - it doesn't matter how wealthy he is - he isn't going to be throwing money at the club. Retianing Surman and our strikers would be a good start.
-
You are assuming the Pinnacle lot are competent. We have had nothing to support or (thankfully!) deny that assertion. I would like to think they have plans, but I am not assuming they do. Selling our best players is not the direction I want the club to go in. You would be absolutely destroying Lowe if he were selling our best players without a manager in place. Double standards in the extreme.
-
I would be very seriously worried if they didn't have an extremely good idea of what the clubs problems are BEFORE they plonked down 500k to enter exclusivity. [-X If they didn't even consider that far ahead, it doesn't bode well for the future. They should have understood the balance sheet, last years income statement, next years project income statement, debt reduction measures, key staff appointments, players contracts and every thing else before they committed themselves to the club. If they didn't even manage this then I have to wonder who exactly we're dealing with here.
