I suspect NC underestimated the negative effect Pardew's sacking would have on team results. If he had known surely he would have been more pragmatic. Regardless of what Pardew's misconduct may have been the important thing once the season has started is to get results, and it surely would have been more sensible to leave him in place for the short term. If this was a TV movie the VoiceOver would be suggesting Nicola's decision making has been affected by grief, but I don't think real life is like that.
