The worst game I've seen from Saints this season I'm afraid to say and that's saying something given the poor opposition today. Let's face it Cardiff had one shot on target and scored a great goal from it. We must have had 60-70% possession and fannied around with the ball all match. OK, perhaps not all match but large parts. Gazza is a disaster waiting to happen - a complete flapper of a keeper...dreadful really. Lambert and Lallana clearly had Brazil in their sights...(pity there was nobody from the England coaching set-up at SMS today - might have seen a better display) - both were lethargic. Fonte looked dodgy for parts of the game. Overall it matters little in the grand scheme of things, but I pay good money to see my team play better than that TBH.
-
Not worth the money we paid for him - with a squad as thin as ours, we cannot afford for a player of his supposed ability not to step up when he's needed. As others have said, he's made of glass and not suited to the Prem really. Get rid in summer.

Red and gold is the new black and silver. So we might see a red and yellow striped 1st team kit next season?
-
Cynical gesture by the club to help justify next seasons ticket prices. Glasgow told me this so it must be true.

We'll lose this...they want it more and the balance up front will be severely messed up without JRod. 1-2. Or not.

CONFIRMED: Rodriguez ruptures ACL - out for SIX months
Saint Fan CaM replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Dreadful news for the club and Jay. I can see him taking a full 12 months to recover both his fitness and form and then reclaim his place. We cannot be without a key striker for that period of time, so I would expect some movement in the summer now. There is no other player in the club that could perform in Jay's position and at the same level as he has - however, we'll almost certainly see Ramirez step up now...it would appear to be a big chance for him to impress. -
Completely agree with video replays for goals, pens and red cards. The trouble is the better teams in the division move the ball quicker than others and if you can do that there is more chance that officials will make errors of judgement which could skew a game. I think it would be a really good leveller.

Oh FFS. Sporting Director = Mopo out? For a club of our size (currently at least), I do get the feeling it's starting to look a little bit too top heavy...too many chiefs and all that? It's not as if Mopo and his coaching team are doing a bad job with the resources provided, so what exactly will a Sporting Director bring to the table. Plus, I thought Krueger was fulfilling the 'support the Head Coach' role??? Weird.

This ^ completely.

I knew we would lose when the team news came through. Why? Because Fonte is so dependant on Lovren and Boruc that when the latter is not in place, the central defensive balance is severely disrupted and Fonte effectively becomes half the player he can be. Gazza has no choice but to step up to the plate - it's the club's fault for not strengthening this position last summer as Davis is too old (and not good enough) to rely on. GK is not a position you can give to a youngster in the Prem when the CB pairing is flawed. The rest of the team had a good game - matched City for long periods. Some of the City players should be ashamed of their cheating actions, but Fonte gave away a valid pen - stupid, stupid decision making by him once again. Lambert tired a lot towards the end of the game - Gallagher has yet to demonstrate the type of footballing brain that will make him a replacement for Lambert or indeed a real Prem threat. Last, but not least - as pointed out many times already - the horrendously poor lino decision not to give offside for the their 2nd was a game changer - that was the difference between the teams at that point and the lino may as well have run on the pitch as 12th man and scored the goal himself. Should be sent back to L2.

3-1 loss. Lots of meltdown and Mopo out stuff on here.

Top four. (Someone had to say it) (;

Are we just accepting shaw will leave in summer?
Saint Fan CaM replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Absolutely this - if this club wants to be what it aspires to, then keeping Shaw is of paramount importance. -
Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 4-0 Newcastle
Saint Fan CaM replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Totally outstanding performance - for anyone who didn't see the match, don't be told that 4-0 was because Newcastle were poor (they were) - it was mostly to do with a collective performance that befitted a top four team. Oh yes, if that had been Arsenal or 'Pool the pundits would be dribbling over their programmes. It would be wrong to pick out just one or two Saints players as MOTM - they were all fantastic to a man, but J-Rod, Lallana, Lambert, Cork and Davis were outstanding. Shaw and Chambers put on displays that surely must be placing them at the front of the England managers thoughts - real class. Boruc will not earn an easier pay-day than that. -
While I understand this mid-table game has little bearing on the top and bottom battles, to be fair a 4-0 thrashing of one of the old institutions is an interesting issue in it's own right, but the fact that we completely bossed the game with some excellent quality football with many Brazil bound England players or hopefuls is probably even more important. It was noticeable that the last game got a game analysis, but ours didn't...was it too painful for Shearer to discuss?
-
Oh how I wish that were true, but when others keep quoting GS it's pointless having an ignore filter. Mind you, it was quite a giggle seeing GS and Barry being used as a b1tches in this thread.

Lallana, Lambert and Fonte all act as leaders on the pitch. They are all experienced???

If I was Mauricio Pochettino's defensive coach
Saint Fan CaM replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Got to say I agree with basics of this. We're not gifted with world class ball players and although the principles of keeping the ball are sound, when under pressure deep in your own half, best to put it in row ZZ. -
Actually the new rule for Saintweb is that you may start a new thread every time you don't like the answers you get on the previous thread you started or contributed. The MODS will support this new rule completely...
-
And that too. Certainly was not of the Managers doing tactically though.
-
Yeah 9th in the Prem - rubbish eh? And of course the seasons over now we've lost a game. And of course every mistake made by a Saints player is Mopo's fault. Yeah, get rid of him...we did SO much better last time we were in the Prem when we were changing Manager every five minutes. FFS.
-
Lack of our two best central defensive midfielders - Schneiderlin and Wanyama. That probably did us today. That and a goddamn awful Ref who missed some dreadful challenges largely from Rose who is one of the dirtiest scumbags to grace a football pitch.
-
Oh well...one positive is that Sherwood will now be best thing since sliced bread at Whitefart Lane and Mopo will no longer be courted for the job.
-
Can't blame the management for two of their goals - Clyne makes a connection with the ball and it gets cleared and we're still 1-2 up. Sigs very good long range shot gets blocked and we go in with a 2-2 draw and 8th place. Why we don't try once in a blue moon to shoot from the perimeter of the pen area I don't know.
-
Poor defensive display once again from Saints - Lovren and Clyne particularly. Spurs stepped up and closed us down really well in the 2nd half - didn't let us play our passing game - we didn't really have a plan B. Shame. Move on.
