Hate to say it, but I said before the season started that Lambert would probably not be the right material to move us on, as great as he's been for us. He hasn't looked likely to score and his touch is starting to elude him too for large parts of the game. Tuesday would be an ideal time for Poch to try a different striking combo out...I for one hope he takes that opportunity.

Bench Lallana and Lambert and bring in Davis and Ramirez, pushing JRod into the central attacking midfield role behind Osvaldo (or vice versa). We'll lose this one anyway so best use it to try a different approach.

I thought JRod had a poor game yesterday, however that doesn't make him a player not worthy of the Prem FFS. Wanyama had a shocking 1st half IMO - Lallana and Lambert didn't really cover themselves in glory either. Fact is to win games you've got to score and at the moment the team are finding that VERY hard. This needs to be sorted out and quick by the coaching staff because there's few answers left in the squad. Perhaps Cork back with Schneiderlin is the answer? Perhaps dropping Lallana or Lambert in favour of Ramirez is the answer? I'm not sure, but I do know something needs to change.

I do wonder whether Ossie has been lined up as a replacement for Puncheon/Guly on the right. Means we've got JRod on the left and him on the right of SRL in attack...don't think we're thinking about natural wingers with the high intensity work-rate our full-backs provide. Looks like JWP has been selected as the dead-ball man too, so typical midfield attacking wingers are really not needed in Poch's game.

Moses would be a stupendously good signing for 'little 'ol Saints'.

Can I just say that I love this picture...made this otherwise nuts thread somehow worthwhile.

I believe we'll be nestled mid-table once again, with the odd blip now and then that will get people shouting that we should've strengthened etc. I reckon Poch and his staff probably believe that with SRL, JRod and Mayuka (with the slight possibility of Sharp coming into the mix), that we've got a strike force that can do a job. We've strengthened at the back and in midfield. We've got some talented youth coming through the ranks. Add to the mix that the affordable talent on the market is probably no better than what we have + the whole issue of retaining the excellent squad spirit and you begin to realise that signing just an average Joe will be counter-productive.

I was listening to Solent's build up of the Bompey v Pompey match and it started me thinking that perhaps Bompey are now far enough ahead of the blue phew that they deserve 'rival' status now. Let's face it, they would give us a much harder game than the skates would and I don't think they can be considered as that little club on the other side of the Forest now. Thoughts?

Simple answer - no.

If we're going to sign another player, it must be someone capable of dislodging a current 1st team regular. Otherwise pointless and we might as well go into the next season with the current line-up. We won't do much better than last season, but then we'll probably not struggle quite as much in some games.

Gaston is a class player, but perhaps he simply just has not settle here for some reason (too many idiots on his back?) and just perhaps he's asked to be sold if the opportunity comes along? Perhaps if the Banega deal happens, that would be his 'release clause'? Shame is so - I will always remember him as our first real class signing on the way back up thru' the leagues.

If true, this would be a fantastic signing for Saints. It's almost certainly not going to happen though. Unfortunately.

He's as good if not better than Fonte and Jos IMO. He improved over the course of the season too.
