I like the cut of your jib sir. This would seem fair - all attention seekers would then be catered for.

Just in case, can we have two new thread's everytime a rumour gets printed in a rag? And make sure it's re-posted in the rumour thread also please. Thanks.

It's Clyne. Maybe Buttner to follow? -
Hargreaves would be great experience to have in the dressing room on PAYP deal. And yes, I think he is good enough - he could be our Prem version of Connolly?
-
Oh dear, someone didn't do their homework on the contractual side of this then and we've lost time. Or perhaps this is just a cover story - perhaps Cortese got cold feet because the player released the news to the press that he was a Southampton player before he actually was? Anyway, can't see why a third party would get in the way of the move unless they wanted stupid money to go away - can't see Cortese being held to ransom.

Yes, you could well be correct, although all the players I've mentioned could possibly do the same job. Interestingly, I thought when Guly was brought on in a couple of the last games of last season, he seemed to be playing a lot deeper than normal (in fact he looked a bit lost to me), so I wonder whether he was being tested to see if he could play in a more holding role? Chaplow, when he was fit, gave a good account of himself and actually displaced others at one stage, probably due to his strength and energy - his goal against Man Utd (bursting into the box from the right) will be fondly remembered. The only big uncertainty to my mind is Puncheon, who could provide some options for the right, but it looks more likely that he will either move or rot in the development team for a bit longer. IF we sign a pacey RB who had the ability to get forward like Johnson and Cole for example, then your scenario would definately make a lot of sense. -

Anyone else think that we'll not sign a right winger? What with Guly, Chaplow, De Ridder and Puncheon still in the squad, it would seem that there are players waiting to prove themselves in that position, plus it might be considered that there are more pressing positions to deal with (e.g. GK, CB). -

Naughton would be an excellent aqcuisition at RB and is almost certainly worth circa £6m I would suggest at 23. This is one rumoured target I would really like to see happen. -
Thanks. I thought sentiment like that was gone forever from this forum. Great words about a great man.
-
FIFA.com report he can play at right back also, so pretty versatile chap.
-
I reckon there's every chance this guy will be used on the left and Adam will move to a CM role. Alex B can score goals, can pass and has a bit of pace too.

Don't know you Whitey other than reading your posts on here but seems you're the type of fellow any Saints fan would want to meet and be pals with. So the very best of luck to you for your coming operation and recovery.

Is Martinez all that good and better than what we have already? Not sure, but it could be a player swap for Puncheon?
-
I don't get it. There's no cynicism or negativity in that statement whatsoever as far as I can see. And I agree with it too. I need a sit down.

I think we would consider £4m a derisory offer IF it had been received. The lad is clearly highly rated and the cream of our Academy so he's not going to be let go without an "eye popping" offer I would imagine. The time has come for the club to show that it can walk the walk when it comes to keeping our best youth players, however if a player wants to go to another club, there's little that can be done. There needs to be FA enforcement of contractual conditions that keeps Academy players at their parent club until at least their 21st birthday. This will put paid to the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea hiving away young players AND will be the start of a plan to rejevenate English football in general. Will it happen? I doubt it - noses in the trough and all that...

Is it just me, or did the way Spain play remind you of anyone...?

As others have said - no way was that boring! Four sublime goals and some excellent ball skill without fancy step-overs. Of course, lumping it up-field for a targetman to knock down to nobody is far more entertaining - NOT! Oh dear, this forum is going to be a nightmare place to be when we start winning games because we "play like Spain"! And what the hell is a 4-6-0 formation - I just saw an excellently crafted team with lots of off the ball movement who attacked as a unit. Even the pro-commentators were saying that it seemed like there were more Spaniards on the field than Italians. -

There's a lot of truth in the OP - we are attempting to move towards that style of play. But then so are many other teams to be fair. There are two key attributes to enable success in this style of play - (a) fitness/stamina, to enable movement off the ball to be realised throughout 90 minutes and (b) pass accuracy, for hopefully obvious reasons! We have improved both of these elements of our play since Adkins and Co have been managing the team and seen the results in two promotions. Now, the real question is - are there teams in the Prem who have players that can do these things better than our players? Clearly, yes. To my mind this will be one of the most exciting aspects of the coming season - seeing how we compare to Prem teams. -
I think they look fine. I really don't understand the vitroile of so called supporters sometimes. I mean, we're back in the Prem...we've got players who want to stay at the club - love the club and the City/area and talisman players like Lambert who kids can identify and look up to. We've got a Chairman and Team Manager (plus backroom) who have transformed the club into something to be proud of. AND we're playing great football to boot. And STILL we've got the trolls and WUMs on here bleating about some posters! How sad is that?!

A bit too reactionary perhaps?

Why is it that a lot of your threads read just like the ramblings of a skate I know - always looking for an angle to criticise Saints? Just wondering. -
It would have been a good point if MLG had even remotely suggested it, but I can't see that he remotely did so at any point. That might have been a genuine oversight by Turkish, but somehow I don't think so. As for my contribution, I have nothing of particular interest to add to this thread. I do like reading what people (like MLG) have to say and with my 3 posts/day I might try and add something perhaps, but I'm fed up with having to wade through posts of petty squabbles and WUM's trying to make others look stupid. That's why I gave up paying for full membership and it's probably why so many of the interesting posters on the forum from the past are not seen here anymore. It's a shame that's all.

Are you for real?!?!? How the flock is this guy supposed to be 'the enforcer'?!? You're making yourself sound like a petulant little boy with statements like that. Jeez this forum is being ruined - sorry, has been ruined - with every other thread hijacked...
