  1. IMO we are still awfully inconsistent in terms of delivery from corners. The number of times the ball doesn't clear the first man is criminal - it should be at least 99% of the time. With the likes of Lambert, Fonte, Guly and Jaidi - all big blokes - we should be getting the ball onto their heads far more accurately.
  2. Edit: Have faith. Be happy if you find someone else with the same faith as you, but don't force anyone to believe in your faith. Doing so undermines the meaning of faith - if your faith is true, you win. Leave religion behind.
  3. Mirfin could be worthy - otherwise no thanks.
  4. I don't think it will be as easy as some seem to think - mind you, nice to see us above Pimpley in a table once again. (;
  5. Happy Birthday Ron. Always a childhood hero. Come back to Southampton and SMS - you will get a fantastic reception.
  6. Great signing. Trouble with being one of the more gifted/experienced players in a squad is that you can be rushed back from injury too quick which makes full and lasting recovery pretty much impossible. What Connolly got last year was an opportunity to put the injuries behind him - in his own words he said he was probably one of the fittest players in the squad towards the end of last season. And 34 is not too old if you've got a good football brain, which DC has. I think he will come back stronger next season and don't be surprised to see Lee B or even Rickie spend time on the bench to accomodate him.
  7. Thought Wigan looked woeful and should have gone down. Otherwise, glad we'll be seeing the white's of Holloways eyes again.
  8. Completely agree with you there. I would rather we have the ground full to rafters and that the club are able to afford to keep prices sensible, however I know that if you want to experience the best of anything in life, in general you have to pay more for it.
  9. This is a pretty good summary - 2009 as a season is the worst ever I think for all the reasons stated. However, it also has in a bizarre way also given rise to two thorougly enjoyable seasons which has seen the re-birth of our football club - a period that the club needed to be able to rid itself of all the rot that had set-in. I'm loving my football now more than I have done for many, many years.
  10. All this whinging and whining about the price of football is just typical of the "I want it now" brigade. I waited 30 years to be able to afford an ST after having a family and waiting for my salary to out-grow my mortgage. So what?! That's freakin' life! The whole arguement seems hypocritical to me anyway. You want Saints to be in the top tier and as successful as possible and yet you don't want to pay for it?!? While I do not support the wage demands of some footballers (and agents), at the end of the day a sport that attracts as much of a following as football does, will inevitably bow to the demands of commercialism. Unless you think there really is some hope of a utopian society, the best you can do is take responsibility for how you live your life. No one owes you anything. If you want cheap football that's not commercialised (and I do understand that wish), then go watch lower league football - Totton or Eastleigh or whoever. It's still football - it's still an opportunity to get together with mates and have a beer - it doesn't stop you following Saints if you so wish. Or to put it another way, if you want the best life has to offer then expect to pay a premium for it. Sorry if that's a shock to you.
  11. Good news. Especially about getting shot of the imposter Pulis - has to be in the top 3 most ridiculous signings ever for Saints.
  12. Fair play to him, however just watch and see how many journo's start to suddenly get cosy to Saints again in the coming months. They know the club is on the march upwards and more and more will want to be our friends when there's potential hospitality on offer! I would wager there are a considerable number of various parties watching Saints progress with quite some interest in the knowledge that money can be made from a very successful team. Early days yet of course.
  13. So many posters on here complain about how the club is not as family orientated as in past times. Yet here we have a lad of just 24 who after being very unlucky with injury doesn't just say "hey ho, at least I've got a pay packet", but goes out into the community and puts a great effort into helping the less fortunate in Southampton. Thankfully he's been rewarded for that effort. I hope he can get fit enough to play a bigger role this season - he could be Rickie's 'best friend' in terms of assists.
  14. Great news - he's a fantastic player to have around the dressing room and will be able to mentor his own replacement eventually.
  15. Don't say sorry - it's a sign of weakness. I don't have any other answer for you other than to read the thread.
  16. Wouldn't be too far off I reckon - but what about in the future when we're tearing a new hole in the PL? (;
  17. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'll make it real simple for you. The expectation at the club is for the bus to tick-over at tier 2-3. Got that?
  18. Not sure why everyone including the OP is modelling the expectation on just PL clubs. Where for example, would Barcelona sit in that league? Wherever that is (let's say level 2 for arguements sake as that's realistic), then that's where we might (at this point in time anyway) expect Saints to be. Why? Because our model for the future is not based on an ability to dig into the Leibherrs bank account, but to be self-sustaining through an excellent youth development policy that is the envy of the entire footballing world. And everyone at the club who knows what Cortese can achieve, believes in this strategy - so should we!
  19. Can't see how it could affect us. NC will just make sure there's money available in a bank account somewhere to indemnify the club's outgoings and therefore we will appear 'break even' or even profitable.
  20. This is simply good news. I think there is an excellent opportunity that Adkins will become our Alex Ferguson after a few years in the top flight. That is my hope.
  21. I like the idea of getting a credit for games I cannot attend. I also like the idea of being able to book specific seats on-line (for ST holders only), particularly if I want to change my seat to enable me to sit with somebody else. But I also would not want to give up my ST seat. One day soon I will have one of the best views in the Premiership and I'll have waited a long time indeed to be able to say that!
  22. We could go in for players released by the promoted teams - some good ones in QPR for example. For the most part though I think as others have said, Adkins will not want to disrupt the spirit of the side and we do have some good players here already that don't on the team sheet every week. There are goals in this team and I also reckon that the NPC will suit our style more than L1.
  23. Watched MOD2 last night for the first time in ages - I had kind of forgotten some of the quality and pace of even the lower half sides (e.g. Wolves look like a really strong pacey side and it's quite surprising to see them where they are). The teams at the top of the NPC have got there because they are playing with pace and this has been achieved in preparation for the move up to the Prem. At the moment Saints are in need of more pace in the team. There are a couple of players that can move, but not enough and this is where we need to strengthen. I would say, 3-4 players - CB, CM, possibly a winger and ST. It would not surprise me in the slightest if we looked at players released by the likes of QPR - in fact we would be mad not to.
  24. Crikey, glad I couldn't go now - all those blasted plastic kids screaming and running around all over the place would have done me 'ead in. ;)
  25. Don't really like to drop names, however I have spent time with Lawrie and his Wife around a dinner table at SMS on more than one occasion and in my opinion they are both lovely people, they love the Saints and he has some great tales to tell. Regardless of his opinions regarding the people running the club now (I not sure I agree with everything he says, but why shouldn't he have an opinion?), he only wants the best for Saints. Top bloke, always a legend in my eyes and a real privelage to shake his hand and spend time in his company. Even though he turfed me out of an end of aisle seat once - "this is where I usually sit, so I can stretch out my legs" he said...I didn't argue!
