the Danny Ings thread ----yet again
david in sweden replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
after his perfomance yesterday.....I think we ought to take a good long look at DI again. For someone with 6 months left on his contract- he ought to be available for a reasonable fee. Without actually scoring, he caused our defenders (Fonte especially), no end of problems, (perhaps more than RVP who was almost invisible except for his excellent opportunist goals). We are all awaiting Jay Rod's return, (now perhaps even February...or?)...... but will it be a return to the form that he was showing before he got injured? Pelle is still a good player, but he needs help /support / competition....and Ings certainly looked the part. -
that part I agree with. But his temperament got he better of him (again). For someone who was already on four yellow cards, he should have appealed to the referee, and kept out of it. The incident was so blatant time-wasting ...as to be hilarious. The player (Boyd?)...was yellow-carded and although (so badly injured ) managed to carry on almost totally unhindered.

THIS.......Agree ....it was a very sad performance. ....but I can't think of a better example for taking yet another look at Danny Ings. Without actually scoring, he single-handedly caused our defence as much trouble as anyone has this season. (Even RVPs two goals were (excellent) opportunist efforts, but he was almost invisible for most of that game). DI looked like a decent proposition for a striker, aside from the delected goal...... no other Burnley player looked even close to his standard.

what more is there to say?.....we had more possession, and more shots on goal, and missed a penalty. Hard luck on Hesketh -it would have been a red card for Keane - had the ref. seen the late tackle. Mane, Mane, moany, moany..... and to add to the misery, Pelle is the only player to have scored in the last four games -and a fifth yellow card today (silly)...means he suspended for the Sheff.Utd Cup game. Roll on Everton.
-
now there's a thought...(and not so crazy)....but could B'mouth really afford his salary?. A fully-seated stadium down there would be able to cover his weekly salary ...if they have to pay Boruc as well.
-
when Zlatan plays well (not always) ...and scores .......Sweden usually win. When he doesn't ... he's practically invisible and the Swedes are poorer than ever. Like MLT..when Zlatan has the ball at his feet, he's world class and scores "worldies " but Anders had a high degree of tactical nous ... that isn't apparant now that Zlatan has the captain's armband.

Paul Mitchell and his black box of tricks
david in sweden replied to saintnicoolas's topic in The Saints
I understood that the player data for the Black Box comes from the Saints' overseas / domestic scouting team. (as long as they remember who's paying their salaries), so that Mitchell may have a problem keeping it updated as ..a Sky Radio interview (with a former Spuds employee) I heard several weeks ago revealed that Spuds were the only Prem.side without a scouting network ...... ....as it has all been delegated to the foreign " whats his name?".. who squandered all of the £85 million Bale fee (and a bit more) .....in buying Soldado & Co. Time willl tell......... -
......IMO.... 1) JWP will be oncoming sub.today - 60-70 mins. depending on how the game is going. 2) Toby will start today. Schneiderlin probably won't play on Tuesday, either ...??? 3) " the 22" will surely contain 4 or 5 Academy graduates - just how many will get to play is anyone's guess.?

.......and I 've read much dafter suggestions than that on here:o ......they seem to be able to sign good young talent at Celtic. -
probably he is, but the truth always hurts. On the other hand, if the remaing reverse fixtures are played on saturday afternoons...and we win ....then Tame Saint will have made his point.

Artur Boruc joins Bournemouth on loan
david in sweden replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
RK said it's right that the younger goalies get their chance, in one way correct, but having watched both of them on screened U21 games..I hope we don't have to prove that point too often. -
-----some of our fans sometimes....... pay closer attention to stats. like for instance; During the period that Boruc was out injured - we managed just 5 out of a possible 24 points..(many of those in games against teams who finished above us) and during the games that Lovren was out injured - we managed 8 of a possible 15 points. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that had we maintained the great start we had last season, we might have finished higher than 8th.

snow in Bur(n)ley ?.. deep and crisp and even? ...
-
but with " Harry's eye for talent ", he might be a good bet.....eh?
-
.it makes sense, but just wait for those pedantic types to come on in January and start shouting " liar / hypocrite."... if we end up selling Jos, or Mayuka " in the window " . Deals like that would be a bonus, not a denial of intent.
-
for that money ...no thanks. Try making a call to Brendan Rodgers !
-
ouch, I hope Mrs. S has a sense of humour, or you'd better hire in a food-taster before you start your evening meal ........
-
Rodgers may have bought him, but he hasn't sold himself .....on the idea of Adam's skill. He still prefers Joe Allan and Coutinho. The success of Adam and Rickie was that they were a partnership, but they've scarcely played half a dozen games together.
-
I agree he's a good player ( for a 20 y.o.) and his attacking runs are very good, but he doesn't seem to be a "team player " yet and too often his short passing goes astray. L'pool will end up giving him £100K /week contract, (they can't afford to lose him after Svarez departure) but I ask myself what sort of player will he become in 2 years?..and that's more uncertain.
-
...think that this point wasn't missed by Koeman either. He's tried him as " impact sub." several times .....and I haven't seen the guy touch the ball once yet. Getting a last look at him before he goes off to the ACN in January.....expect the remainder of his 3 year contact:scared:.... to be fulfilled .."elsewhere "..

There are loads of " plastics " in Sweden, basically because the level of club football is so poor that only the most diehard fan would admit his allegiance to the club. A while back, I worked with a group of avid football fans (all nice guys).Several come from other continents, supported Chelsea and Arsenal yet had never set foot in the UK.,let alone been to a match. There is an (older) generation here, who watched Match of the Day games (in the 1970's) transmitted live on TV. They became "adopted fans" of teams like Wolves, Notts.Forest, Stoke and Sunderland. We now have a cable network that shows 1 or 2 Prem.games every match day and so everyone is well updated on the current situation in the Prem. and they bet on games every week. The same people who kidded me when Saints were at the bottom end of L1,.... now raise eyebrows, if we meet and reluctantly admit ...." didn't they do well ". I was born in So'ton, lived a mile from The Dell and watched games for nearly 30 years (before moving here)...and I still get asked. Why do you support a team that doesn't get to play in Europe?
-
Exactly the right oportunity to decide if we should go for Danny Ings. If he makes fools of our defenders ....then maybe it's a go. If he's played out of the game / is almost invisible ....don't bother and move on.

Listened to Wham commentator, (who didn't sound a bit unbiased), he thought WHam players were all excellent:lol:.....although playing with 10 men, some of their others would make good rugby players. Josh Sims looked a cut above the rest and Callum Slattery (15.yo). scored with an absolute rocket shot. We were worth the win, 2-1 and played well through continuous rain most of the game..
