The problem we’ve had with players from abroad recently is that we’ve gone from signing players who were the best in their leagues in their positions (Tadic, Pelle, Mane) to players who are pretty average, or not even first choice (Hoedt, Carrillo).
There are a few exceptions but we seem to have started trying to be too clever with it all.
Load of sh*t. Talks more about China than the team and keeps reiterating this ‘small club’ thing. Plus we will only be spending money from player sales.
Probably the worst manager I've ever seen at Saints.
Wotte and Portvliet were terrible but with a terrible team. MP had decent enough players at his disposal but just had no idea.
Austin, Gabbi and Carrillo out. Long to stay to play as part of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 (I.e not up front on his own) and a Pelle/Lambert style player to be a focal point.
We have to start fast and get their crowd nervous. No doubt they'll be thinking the same thing so it could be a frantic start to the game.
I think I'd play the same team as Saturday and just bring in Stephens for Yoshi. Admittedly that defence looks poor but at least it gives us an extra man than a 2 man partnership.
FWIW, bookies have us as favourites.
No point having Austin up top on his own as he’s not mobile enough.
I’d go 5-3-2:
McCarthy
Cedric, Bednarek, Yoshida, Hoedt (gulp), Bertrand
JWP, Romeu, Hojbjerg,
Austin, Long
