Woah woah chaps, let's not ridicule the 'sash army' idea just yet. Let it breath for a while and have another go. If it helps, I could present it in handy (and FREE!) installments so it's less offensive? 'S...' etc.

I'm ashamed of my fellow Saints fans. If Pompey had the set up that we've got, NOT ONE OF THEM would complain, they'd be ecstatic. I honestly am astounded that we can complain about things that are so trivial in the grand scheme of things... Cortese needs to sort himself out because of rumours about him being a control freak? What about Cortese sanctioned a manager and playing staff that have brought the pride back to the city? Or did that happen when he was on his tea break? I love this club, but I really dislike some of our fans, and that's sad.

Interesting inability to realise that success as a business is reliant on success on the pitch. They are one and the same. The more successful we are, the more people will want to watch us play, the more sponsorship money we receive, and so more money to build future success. Do you wake up with a smile on your face when it's bad weather so you have something to complain about?
-
Not if we're top of the league there won't. Plenty of fans will come out of the woodwork. When we've won the division, I hope all of you moaners have the balls to admit how fantastic Cortese will have been for the business.

Back in trouble? What a short memory! These troubles are NOTHING compared to the rubbish we've been dealt in the last few years. Anyone expecting the new regime to be perfect is naive, anyone who sees problems as the beginning of the end even more so. You will never have a club that you agree with every aspect of, unless you buy your own, so stop worrying about things that really don't matter.

if umbro have marketing similar to this cheeky number, i'll be chuffed. http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/rangers-home-shirts-1011_7324

Perhaps, but they will lose out more than him eventually. He still remains in charge of a football club, and basically nothing has changed in that respect. The Echo, by contrast (and rightly or wrongly) have angered quite a few fans and perhaps reduced their readership. They may not have explicitly done anything, but it is clear that the paper has been less than positive about Cortese, rather than Saints. Whilst they continue to do this there will be no chance that they will become a favoured source again because Cortese is the decision-maker.

If they can't perform journalistic excellence they should be doing all within their power to get information of genuine quality that the other nationals cannot. Like it or not, that requires a working relationship with the source of that information. They don't need to only print nice articles, but the articles do need to have more of an insight into the club, otherwise what is the point? I may as well read a national.
-
Not wanting to start that argument again, but the role of a local paper is different to that of a national. The Echo is not competing with The Mail et al for news about Saints- people would have still purchased a copy a day later because it would have included more detailed information than a tiny column that the nationals will provide about a League 1 club's training ground. People don't buy The Echo for news about Southampton instantly, but because it gives a deeper insight into goings on at the club. Despite reading about the training facility in a national, I would have definitely bought The Echo a day later as they could run an exclusive interview etc with Cortese about the plans for the club. I think that people would sacrifice a 12 hour wait for some information of genuine quality, rather than a carbon copy of something already in The Mail. I don't know anybody who would have refused to buy a copy the following day because they'd 'already read 200 words about it in a national'...

it will be a nightmare because of all the fitness and running they'll have to do, if they don't follow the fitness plan throughout the summer they'll be found out either by the coaches who notice they're looking fat and can't run, or by opposing teams who are fitter.

Absolute rubbish.

interestingly both positions held by kaiser sose!

i don't think us fans deserve them. we have to be some of the worst fans in football, anybody else would kill to be saved from the brink and been catapulted toward success.
-
ultimately stu, why does that matter? we are fans of the team, it is only a mild interest that we take in other aspects of the club by comparison. it may be irritating, but we've just won the jpt and nearly got into the playoffs, why can't we leave the business side of things to people whose job it is? in the grand scheme of things, is not announcing season tickets (surely something that has been done for a reason rather than to wind you up) a rather small matter? we will get season tickets, they will allow you to go to all of the home matches. same as ever.
-
i'm with you, people talk of making short-sighted decisions, but to side with a replaceable manager against one-of-a-kind billionaire owner and chairman would be the most short sighted decision of all! we're not in the premier league, we are in league 1, there ought to be plenty of managers who could get the highest spending team out of the league. I repeat, pardew has done well, but plenty others could with these resources.
-
what do you mean giving him too much power? he's the chief exec, he is effectively making all of the decisions. the stupid thing is fans thinking they have the power to dictate what the chief exec should do. complaining about the man who has saved our club (after all, he proposed the idea to ML) isn't going to make him think twice about decisions, it'll just make him like the club a little less. pointless.
