Cortese speaking to BBC for first time since leaving Saints

 No other clubs ever sanctioned failed transfers -
Genuinely no idea. I imagine however that due to NC's insistance to have the final word on everything Id have to air to the side of no, rightly or wrongly. I obviously have nothing to back that up mind. I have no idea whether the sacking was a good decision or not, whether something happened or its a genuine sporting decision. What I do know is this place would be in meltdown if it was the 'dangerous dons' decision. Laughable that the new lot get off so lightly.

Im glad this all happened under the new board else this thread would have reached 100 pages so far.

How to replace Lallana...if he goes.
Smirking_Saint replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Often wondered about Sinclair, he could probably do with someone picking him up cheap, putting their arm round him and giving him a chance. Didnt do much at WBA though unfortunately. Rodwell is another worth a punt (not necessarily us as he seems to play the same role as cork) -

Always thought Ramirez had the ability, arguably you cant have both Adam and Ramirez in the side which is a shame. Ramirez' problem will be if he stays fit enough to be consistant considering he seems to pick up knocks at alarming regularity -
Whilst I didnt vote Ukip, and to be honest didnt want them gaining too much ground it should certainly give the established parties a massive kick up thr jacksie. Also nice to see Labour getting a hammering.

Yeah I can agree with the last paragraph there, openly trying to break into the top 4 is difficult and more or less beyond us unless you start seriously bankrolling the club. Regardless of what people say about the cash e have spent so far the return on investments been pretty good and now its more risky. If we were say Stoke or Villa then you could argue the investment to the next level is too much of a risk. Its a shame though that we are IMO, at a platform to progress, the cusp perhaps of something more that, IMHO wouldnt cost too much to go for it. A little investment in the right areas would do two things, 1 perhaps be enough to convince the players to challenge for 1-2 more years and two give us the depth required to challenge the top 6. Realistically though if we lose our better players and manager by not appeasing that ambition you are taking some big steps back and we end up too far away to a level where investment outweighs risk

Too be honest, I think the question is really do we want to go back to where we were ? If that were the case then yes of course. For me Cortese's ability to get things done from a footballing perspective outweighed his overall ruthless edge and dont get me wrong, I know the man settles for nothing but his way as Ive come up against him. Realistically though is he left (or was sacked) knowing that KL no longer wished to openly fund any more of the progression. We were at the end of the 5 year project dont forget. It all sort of makes sense when you think about it. Perhaps money was put aside to fund the 5 year plan, now its ended then the budget stops, thats a reasonable assumption no ? And now KL is not worried about funding the next level, which means whether NC was here or not the funding may not be either?

TBH I think we are on the decline, I think that KL has now ended her overall ambition. Personally I do t think it died with Cortese, I think it had died before that, hence the fallout and eventual sacking/leaving of the don. Is this overall a bad thing for us ? No of course not, we are in a good position, well funded, well stocked player wise, great academy, top infrastructure. Without reasonable investment itll be difficult to move anywhere further though and as a fan thats genuinely dissapointing. Has anything happened yet ? No, most of this is pure speculation, nobody has left yet, indeed the silence is deafening but no news is good news right ? Personally I think the writings on the wall, and for me its sad, of course Ill stick my hand up and say that its a sad indicament of the times that I cannot be contented with a mid table bob job but thats football and thats me. In my job, in my sport I want to see improvement, I want to see the best we can achieve. Regardless of anyones agenda we have all enjoyed the progression, all enjoyed the football and largely yes, as big as he was a cock NC provided that, his money or not. So yeah, this board is about opinions and largely about speculation, so Ill put mine out there. For me the writings on the wall, the games up. We are on the cusp of something here, a brilliant but not quite finished first team, a brilliant but not quite polished manager and an exciting academy. A few well managed aquisitions and we could make it, convincing players to stay 1-2 yrs and I honestly think that we could target top 6, but in reality ? I think we are going to be on the end of a bad summer. As predicted if you dont match ambition the main pawns will be off, and I dont think KL or RK are offering it. I may be wrong to question the board, if Im wrobg come summer ill be the first to stick my hand up and apologise, hell, maybe ill even chuck some cash at Saints foundation too as, unfortunately, through the snippets I hear from certain sources, the noises coming from the media do nothing but convince me the dream is over. Rant over... Sorry chaps

Bit of a hysterical reaction TBH

Exactly this crabby, but obviously Cortese was the bad guy......... Obv Id much rather the contractors were happy then success and good football on the pitch...

He would deserve a lot more respect if he wasnt openly using the media to shove a suited dwarf shaped wedge between the fans the the new board. He did very very well in a footballing sense, but his antics since leaving have hardly dispelled the general opinion that he was a bit of a tit. He would have got many more points by leaving quietly, waited for the new board to mess up (its an if) and then shrug his shoulders and say I told you so. -
How does he smell ?

I get the impression it was a cash thing TBH, but you are right we will never know. Im not really that bothered to hear from him if Im honest. Especially after all the stories that have been spun in the press since his departure. Yes he wasa cock, but it got things done. Hard to argue with our rise under his tenure -
Its not necessarily those, its the ones that refer to cutting sick and holiday pay

IMHO I think we should control our borders in much the same way as Australia does theirs. I dont think that it is wrong to ensure those that come here to work are needed and skilled in the jobs that they are asked to do. Closing borders however is rediculous and frankly short sighted and borderline racist. There is no chance Id vote Ukip though, their policies archaic.

Well, this is going to be fun... Still, I suppose we will have both sides of the story. -
Ahh you were being cryptic, I just thought you were being an idiot

What for exactly ? Not believing Lallana will sign a new contract this week ?
