Lambert has struggled tonight, isolated yes but nothing has stuck to him. Its not just him though, the team as a whole has been aweful and has shown little inventiveness

Sorry, but did you actually read what I said ? Seeing as I said he was a good option when Rooney, Welbeck and Sturridge isnt available ? And that tonight there is an oppurtunity for it to turn sour for him considering its happened to better players ?

He has got himself into the team, grabbed his chance and doesnt look out of place, fair play to the lad and yes it has been a fairytale and a gamble that paid off. Personally I think he will do a good job tonight but as Samuals said it has the potential to turn sour for him. He will now be a decent option up until the WC, but lets be honest, Welbeck, Sturridge and Rooney are all better options than him and after the WC we shoukd IMHO drop anyone too old for the next WC which will include all the centurians and Lambert unfortunately

Or is it simply that Samuals isnt clamouring for his inclusion in every England game from now on and isnt saying that he is a better option than Rooney (which he isnt) This forum does make me laugh, first we were going to be finishing above Arsenal and taking on Europes Elite in an 80k seater super stadium and now Rickie is the saviour of English football and a world class striker after 2 games against poor opposition. No, and Ive said this time and time again Roger, Ive not got an anti Lambert agenda, but I want the best for Saints. Saints tactics dont suit RL, Englands does (poor opposition helps too), the tactics however I feel will suit PO in the long run. So he either changes tactics or drops Rickie

It does make me laugh, Rickie Lambert is now the saviour of England football despite the fact that although he has certainly not looked out of place he was playing against reletively poor defences he now has a new test in Ukraine. Lamberts turned himself into a viable option, and fair play to him, but he isnt world class.

It is weird yes, but then we play a completely different way to England, and as I have said countless times, if you want to get the best out of Lambert then we need to change our tactics to suit him. If you want to get the best out of the tactics then you have to drop Lambert. I know that it is blasphemous to mentioned anything negative about Lambert on here but I am a Saints fan first and foremost and want us to win over any sentimentality. That said I think RL is a very good player and am not targeting him from my selections in any other way then that I have stated above

Yeah I can agree with that, his touch and awareness are just so so good for a player that has little experience at the top level. He certainly didnt look out of place. Comparing him with Beattie is a bit harsh though, in reality Beattie was a poor player that went through a purple patch with us. His control was always terrible but we set up our tactics the right way, which you say when he went to everton without Ormerod doing all the donkey work and the balls not being swung into the box for him.

When did I say that ? Edit - I said it will be Welbeck, Sturridge or Rooney. Two of which are injured so you can hardly hold that against me

Gerrard proved who was king in the battle of midfielders tonight, bossed it and was so composed on the ball, except for one or two of his hollywoods he rarely gives the ball away. Welbeck, works so so hard, I think thats part of the reason he doesnt get so many goals but make no mistake the kid is a talent, he has all the physical stats plus technically he is very good, needs to work on his composure though, but that comes with age. And Rickie, pushed Gerrard to the last for the MOTM award and not just because Im a saints fan, but I think RL should have had it, a too game, 2 assists and a goal, plus we all know what Stevie does, what Lambert did tonight was deserving of the award. Special credit to Wilshere and Barkley, two very special young midfielders

This, plus they are the darlings of the media for a reason, they are two very good players
