  1. I wonder how long ago this appeared? '68/'69 maybe?
  2. Sorry if already posted. News from 'That other place' that Dave Burnside passed away on Friday. No details as yet. R.I.P. Dave
  3. Would this be road kill? As once favoured by one of our members? (Cabbage I believe?)
  4. Or Fred The Leg?
  5. I believe that this was, originally, the western end of Allington Lane?
  6. Give the lads a little more time to get it together with AP's guidance. Maybe one or two additions/changes in January might see us with a very strong squad. This team is beginning to improve more quickly as the weeks, and experience, pass by. I'm now beginning to think a top ten spot isn't impossible whilst dreaming that we may, just possibly, edge a play off spot? I really don't want to count my chickens but that feelgood factor, which I lost many years ago, seems to be returning.
  7. I couldn't believe it when I first saw clear cartons of freshly piped mash for sale in Tesco's chilled counters. Can't people peel, boil and mash spuds anymore? Lazy sods!
  8. I expect that in thirty or so years time the youngsters, who are reading this, will look back and be truly able to say 'Nostalgia ain't what it used to be!' I do wonder what their memories may be? Winning the PL in 2019?
  9. Thanks mate, that's a great map BTW.
  10. Great spot! I thought it was Roy Phillips. We worked together at GKN in Bishy about 7 years ago. He was a right one for his early doo wop and rockabilly stuff!
  11. What about spam?
  12. The official name is St. Nicholas Church. Interesting snippet though!
  13. I'd probably pee myself laughing if I saw a large white rabbit getting off a bus!
  14. I think that a PO postcode does similar things to most of us from the 'beautiful part of Hampshire'. Other than that? I don't post much myself. :smt080
  15. That game you talk of, if memory serves right, actually relegated United. Our fate was sealed away at Everton (following week?) on the last game of the season. Although we beat them 3-1 (or maybe 3-0?) we were relying on Norwich and Birmingham coming up with the right ( for us ) result. Sadly they didn't. It was a sad trip home with a few 'old boys' (50 yrs) in tears.
  16. You must have been the handsome chap, just ahead of us.
  17. Not as loony left as I thought!
  18. Was that the Cadena Cafe? Also that coffee shop, always heralded our arrival in town on the 48. It was a roaster in the window, not a grinder. Windsor terrace when we arrived in town for the game, a bag of chips and a Plesteds Pie. Then down to the Southerners for pints of Mild with a schooner of sherry in it. Can't remember some games. I wonder why!
  19. Is this the guy with a gammy leg, like he had Polio as a kid? Always has a fag on the go? Laughs out loud, shouts a load of gibberish and points at people? If so I last saw him, about a month ago, in Eastleigh.
  20. Helping run the EDL web site?
  21. Not 20, but I'll give you ten? Joe Mercer (Man City) Don Revie (Leeds Utd) Bill Shankly (Liverpool) Harry Catterick (Everton) Brian Clough (Derby/Notts Forrest) Bill Nicholson (Spurs) Bertie Mee (Arsenal) Tommy Docherty (Chelsea) Ron Greenwood (West Ham) Sir Bobby Robson (Ipswich) Ted Bates The thing is this is all subjective and whilst Laurie is undoubtedly a hero to many Saints fans there are other managers who he was not better than. If you go back into the late sixties you had Matt Busby even! I loved what Laurie did for Saints but I wasn't happy with him seemingly leaving us in the lurch either. However, do we know the full reasons he left us?
  22. Sensible move mate, you just never know!
  23. I think that Dave was an ex Top Rank doorman? In recent years he had the Riverside Club in St. Denys but suffered ill health and I am told he has passed away.
  24. I don't think that it was a landing pad as such. More like a small hard standing on which a helicopter was displayed? It was down a slight slope from the road by the Police Station and, as described earlier, outside the ATC hut.
  25. A good mate of mine, Pete Bentley, worked at Henry's for many years. pete has an unbelieveable record collection, especially soul music.
