  1. Larry's Burger van, he used to have a pitch under arundel Towers and then later in the car park opposite the Lord Louis. I heard, last year, that Larry had passed away.
  2. But don't both products make the earth move?
  3. Are you a politician? You didn't answer my question but did answer the one I clearly stated I wasn't asking. Surely, discounting any sick or DLA claimants, there must be figures for those claiming long term?
  4. A serious question. Of those who are able to work, but will not, what percentage do you think would make a complete mess of working and become unemployable? Also, what percentage would never get a job in the first place through being sifted out at interview as unsuitable (either through indolence or plain unemployable e.g. a waste of the employers time and effort)? I'm not asking how we'd make them work by the way!
  5. You've been sick for years.
  6. TBH I think that you get Socialism just as much as I get Capitalism. Which, somewhere, is where I get lost. I'm not really for nationalising everything, nor anti globalisation. My politics, for what they are, are more Utopian and Egalitarian. Utopia doen't really work in the real world, I'm old and cynical enough to realise that. However there is still an egalitarian streak running through me which would like to see the disadvantaged, not work shy etc, cared for in society. Because of that principle I cannot support Tory values, fine though a few of them are, which seem to consider ALL unemployed as slobs, council house scum, spongers etc. The Tories exist to keep the class system in place, despite what the Finchley Beatch is alleged to have said, so that working class people provide the labour on which their fruits ripen. They will only help those who have hopes and aspirations. Unfortunately there are many who have no aspirations or hope because they do not have the wherewithall or nous to progress in life.
  7. Lovely twist!
  8. Methinks that there was a tad more reality in the Soul Cellar thread.
  9. I don't think the left have totally given up. Once the true Tory policies are revealed then union membership will rise. Then we'll get into another 'who's got the biggest balls' argument. Just another fixture in the boom, bust, blame the Unions, get the Tories in, boom, bust, blame the Tories, get Labour in league. It will need something more that our current political scenario to completely cure things. I think neither New Labour or the Conservatives have the real answer because they govern from power, not concensus.
  10. As a 'loony lefty' I always had a begrudging respect for Ken Clarke to be honest.
  11. The point now is do any of them do it for me? I actually vote Lib Dem to keep the Tory out from Eastleigh. It might be nice to see what they could do, Vince Cable does make a lot of sense at times but is it just rhetoric? I can't vote Tory because it just goes against my beliefs, while I can see why some vote for them. To be honest I'm pretty cheesed with both main parties, there's so little between them although New Labour haven't gone far enough to totally get my goat. Somebody suggested the Socialist Party in an earlier thread. Maybe I have mellowed over the years and don't see myself anymore as an activist? I'll obviously have to make up my mind within 6 months or so. Maybe a hung parliament with the Lib Dems holding the casting vote? Can't see that benefitting the country though.
  12. Spot on, even us 'Labour Luddites' recognise this, to our cost. The party had to modernise because they felt they were unelectable. They just lurched, in my humble opinion, too far to the right, although at the time many of us had not realised it. The problem for us socialists, as I have said previously, is that there is precious little else for us to vote for and my political beliefs are not for compromising. So I either put up with a crap sandwich (Labour) or a double crap and poo sandwich (Tory).
  13. R.I.P. Far too young.
  14. I think that's one of the little oversights that our Tory fiends have made. I don't think that many money movers are Socialist. TBH though this Government is blamed for not controlling the excesses of the banks (all very easy in hindsight). I do wonder how loud the Tories would have brayed if the government had put those controlling measures in place though.
  15. Leeds? Just a teeny weeny hope?
  16. Agreed, I'm just trying not to get toooo excited as yet because, as with all things Saints, things do tend to turn and bite yer'ass! Unless ML/NC/AP have also managed to rid us of our dire luck that we have suffered from over the years?
  17. I have have highlighted the operative part of the word Conservative for you.
  18. I'm a bit undecided on this scenario. Whilst it would be a great indication of our achievements this season I can't help but think, warily, that a promotion may be a season too early? Presumably, should we get promoted, there would be a large wedge made available? So that we could stabilise in the CCC?
  19. Not pushing my luck but things are looking on the up. What a superb show also from our travelling fans, well done you chaps and chapettes!
  20. As I am in Eastleigh I shall be voting Liberal, it's the only way to keep the Tories from winning here.
  21. And, for most of us disenchanted Labour voters, that last line will be the crux on which our voting decision will be made.
  22. Agreed! It was also loud and quite lairy in their opposite end on the night of the 3rd Round replay in 1976. And we had some Spuds fans in with us because their replay, at Stoke, had been called off!
  23. Yup. Simples!
