Nothing like taking something out of context to suit your own agenda, is there?
The 'SOS' match, on the face of it, does look embarrasing. However, it is unthinkable that if it, alone, was the difference between us living or dying, that it would not have happened, big style.
But events quickly overtook it.
The idea was mooted by McMenemy. Almost as soon as the tickets had been printed and gone on sale (before any one had even been approached to organise/star in the event), between 30-40 different buyout offers were on the table and the admin/takeover process was underway. The event then became, in most peoples' eyes, unnecessary, and was not pursued. Even so, a few thousand tickets had been sold very quickly and people were given the option to reclaim or donate the £15 to the cause, which is what happened.
Also, it was only one way that we helped our club at that time. Private donations continued to flow in from day 1 until the Liebherr takeover.
