  1. Yep, was the third out of three home wins on the trot against United, 3-1, 6-3 and then the 1-0 on the Monday night in I think early 98. Cracking atmosphere that night, had recorded it off to sky to watch when I got home, wish I'd kept stuff like that!
  2. Bit disappointing that its Switzerland again, not the most exciting of venues. Hopefully this time they do a game at a "proper" ground and maybe release the details with as much notice as possible. And before anyone says anything, I know, the point of pre-season tours is not to entertain fans.............
  3. Nothing that appealing at all in that list. Hereford or Cheltenham only new grounds and they'd be a trek on a Tuesday night. Guess someone like Wimbledon or Crawley would be decent, although a fair chance of an upset at either of those two I reckon.
  4. A few, but also a lot of sense. Silly price-tag (however true it may or may not be) and he's not really what Wenger's priority should be right now. Chamberlain's got plenty of potential, but some of this hype is getting ridiculous now.
  5. Obviously I'm a bit biased, but would never describe the Dell as "disgusting and horrible" far, far worse grounds around at the time.
  6. Off on a bit of a tangent, but Palace team of the 80s?
  7. The area the other side of the red light district from the train station (if that makes any sense) is smart with lots of good normal bars and places to eat, can't remember what it was f****g called now though!
  8. Anyone off here that was at the Oldham 3-0 defeat in about '93, Benali scored the classic own goal?
  9. Go to the Grasshopper pub and spend £7 on a pint of beer.
  10. Another great thread, similar to the Anderlect one. Always think that many overrate the atmosphere at the Dell for daytime games, but night matches were always buzzing, saw loads of mad games one way or another there over the year off the top of my head: Oldham 1990 - Andy Ritchie Bolton 1992 - Barry Horne Liverpool 1994 - Le Tissier hatrick. Spurs 1995 - Ronnie Rosenthal Newcastle 1995 - 1-0 with 5 mins to go, winning 3-1. As a nipper, used to get pie and chips up at Teds in Bedford Place, then walk down Milton Road, floodlights glaring away. Definitely a different feel about night games at the Dell.
  11. Not having a dig, but has anyone seen him play or even heard from anyone else directly that has seen him play or is the "better than his brother" just one of things that just catches on and everyone repeats (I've done that myself and I don't have a clue how good he is or not).
  12. Quality thread and the sort of thing I'd love to read more of on here. Think they've been a few mentions of various bits and pieces from different trips on here before, but would be great to hear full accounts from all our European games over the years, Hamburg, Marseille, Limerick etc...........
  13. Possibly, but from what I've seen of him he does just need a long run in a side - how likely he'd be to get that at Saints I'm not so sure. He's only 21, so plenty of players of a similar age have taken longer to settle at the level. Obviously I wouldn't recommend signing a player based on just the fact that he's a local lad, but given the choice I'd love to see a side full of local lads/those that supported Saints when they were younger.
  14. I kind of agree and it seems that the general consensus from Wolves and Norwich is that he's not quite Premiership class, but he's massively experienced at Championship Level for someone of his age and just needs a sustained run in a side..
  15. I almost hope it is a wind-up, looks absolutely dire. Had a quick look on it, but didn't "like" it as it just looks so utterly s**t.
  16. I take it Norwich aren't taking him on? Definitely a Saints fan, still see his old man at games quite often, would be a top signing imo.
  17. No it's not. Thousands of others fans manage to enjoy watching Saints from the corners and ends without too much trouble.
  18. I never said they were desperate, this is what I've been predicting for the last few weeks what the club would do. They don't particularly want season ticket holders and believe they'll make more money from pay per game. I'm lucky as I get a decent renewal deal.
  19. How much you want to bet?
  20. Was told from a reliable source at the end of the seaon that Seabourne was probably off, so this fits with that. Probably wants/expects to be first choice wherever he's playing and possibly knows that Adkins doesn't higely rate him and he's not quite the quality we'll be looking for in the Championship. Think he'd do well for a mid-ranking League One side if he got enough of a run in the side, which I guess was the case originally at Exeter.
  21. Sorry - what is the point of this thread? You know that if we were to sell any of our better players, we would bring in a better replacement? Right.............................
  22. Not too many complaints from me on these prices, although I think the fairly high prices for new purchases show us that the club are happy with the number of season ticket holders it currently has and isn't too bothered about getting anymore. I agree with the increase for OAP concessions from 60 to 65, we have got loads of fans in that bracket and it must have been losing the club loads of money each year. I disagree with free tickets for under 11s as plenty will get them just for the sake of them without ever ysing them. Make it something like £50 for under 11s and they've still got an absolute bargain, but will stop people taking them up just for the sake of it. What is clear yet again though and hasn't changed from last year is the poor quality of communication from the club. Guess we'll just have to get used to it, but its a long way off from the "world class" image Cortese seems to want to present.
  23. Is this how Barcelona do it?
  24. Cheers. They really do sound completely f******d, even more reason why they need to be back in the Prem, a bit more debt either way won't make a difference now!
  25. Out of interest, what are West Ham's main debts? Bank loans etc?
