You obviously didn't see the story Sky Sports News did on Saints a few years ago when we were in the peak of the financial crisis and it was being reported we were within a week of going under etc. SSN played a video of Saints highlights from over the years (MLT magic goals, Beattie's goals, FA cup final footage from '76 and '03) to the music from 'As Time Goes By' and by the end of it MLT was visibly in tears. Jeff Stelling had to give him a few moments before asking for his take on what caused the financial crisis. He is a Saints fan through and through.

Slightly inspired by once_bitterne's thread, anyone remember this chap? A Tunisian CB who signed for us in '04, that we spent around £700k on and he didn't make a first team appearance for us. What's more I believe he was here in the time of Claus, Jakobsson and Davenport. Anyone remember anythign about him and why he never played for us? Surely he couldn't have been that bad he was behind those 3 in the pecking order He's now playing for Lens who are mid table in the French Ligue 1, the first tier of french football

Pele was signed when Burley decided the best way to deal with a severe central defender shortage was to buy a load of central midfielders eg. Idiakez, Jason Euell etc. Hell we even had Euell playing in the centre of defence in a couple of games! Pele was a mediocre CB, he definitely wasn't the worst defender we've ever had, Jakobsson, Lancashire and Davenport were worse but he was a decent CM. His problem was similar to a lot of players who played under Burley, they were regularly played out of position.

There's no question that MLT and Cortese got off on the wrong foot when MLT got taken in by the Fialka Fiasco. MLT has since publicly criticized Cortese more than once and some been far more than simply stating he disagrees with a decision Cortese has made. Regardless of where you are on the debate of whether Cortese is ignoring the club's history, MLT hasn't exactly done a lot to endear himself to the current chairman

he left us, made 3 appearances for blackpool in one season. Failed to break into the first team at Croydon Athletic and has since made a handful of appearances for Lewes in 4 months. Just think if we'd have got through the play-offs, Burley would have been playing him in the PL!!
