Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition

No Zaha NEVER! Just pace and step overs, was really average both times we played palace and should be left to for another prem team to pay over the odds for. Same for Danny Simpson, just money grabbing. Mutch is supposed to be someone to look out for in the future and Redmond will have a lot of people after him (being quick). That would be impressive, though I doubt it'll actually happen -

That would make sense really, shame as he looks one of the best keeper options being the right age, wants to play in the prem and looks pretty good (plus with Brum having no money he can't be massively expensive) -

Brum not going up leaves Ben Foster an option too! -

Well seeing as Blackburn have been relegated, time to rank and poach from them. Very interested in Hoilett and Martin Olssen. Goodwillie, Rochina and Nzonzi should also be worth a look... -

I think the sun have been on here too long... Wouldn't say no at 3m though! No better than Bart really, makes a few blinding saves then concedes a few really soft goals. -
Ipswich away, the 4th goal with Morg doing that lob! Nothing more amazing and exciting for what the season will contain.
-
Guly and Morgan ran the midfield! For once (in god knows how many games) Guly played in the right sort of positions and Morgan left to do the sit in front of the defence and look hard about it role. Guly has to be motm for that cross, first player all season to make a cross from the wings where he looks up first to see where our strikers are... Morg had an amazing game but for the first time in months it really has to be a properly Guly day.

Curtis Davis David N'Gog? Ben Foster, Fraser Forster or Wayne Hennessey Jack Collisson This Messie bloke could be good Lallana back up Fletcher out of Wolves -
Three cheers for the big man
-
Whilst holding a gun to one of the mascots head "Win or the kid gets it!"
-
Hooiveld. Lambert has very much met expectations (Champ player of the season and top goal scorer) but who would have thought Hooiveld could have ended up as our key cb and blow away the expectations we held for him.
-
One of the best players at the club, he has really come good this season as the defensive area of his game has really picked up this season.
-
If brum don't go up id want to see a bid for Curtis Davis, same for Ben Forster (or try and blag Frasier Forster if he doesn't end up at Celtic). Any one of Ebanks-Blake, Doyle or Fletcher could be worth a punt when Wolves get relegated. Blackburn have plenty of decent players I would want to get too, Olsson (left back) would be class (but relegate Harding), Hanley impressed me, Nzonzi would be amazing, Hoilett would be good for a few years but could be destined for big things. Robinson would be good, despite his age and wages, or Mark Bunn could be a good shout too. On reflection I am amazed Blackburn could go down as theres some decent players there... Bolton have a Rio-Coker who would be alright and Ngog would be a good addition too. Would love some of the Man City kids that are just repeatedly out on loan too, Boyata could really add something if he's not too expensive.

Fox with quite simply the best display on how to be a terrible left back, I don't see how a player who has to deal with Kebe for 90 mins for get after about 10 and just do nothing positive. It's been clear for some months now that he is not a prem left back and is really starting to get on my nerves. Hammond out, can't pass to save his life. We miss the Morg more than anything else tonight as he can do the tackling of Hammond and the passing of Guly, without that we have to suffer with Hammond's nonsense. Same with Chaplow and being a liability. Final player rant is Sharp can go back to manning a pie shop up north somewhere with his whippet. A fat, lazy, lower half champ striker who's goals are someone setting him up to smash it from a yard or a massive defensive mistake. No ability to make his own space, no ability to beat people, can't run the ball, can't out pace anyone decent, can't create a goal for anyone else, pointless player. Between Connelly and Barnard they might just stand a chance of doing something other than smash it from a yard. Could not need Lee enough. For me Butters was one of the best players on the pitch, begging the question why did we ever play Harding at RB if Butters was an option! Lambert and Lallana were really good, they had very few answers for them and their cb's were getting away with murder climbing over everyone. To get promotion we can not play like that, we have to make the chances count (like at palace) if not we will end up 3rd and will do this league again next year, which will be entirely our own fault
-
Zaha was left side and is not really all that... Pretty much an English Steve De Ridder (with a decent step over instead of a knock forward and run)
-
This problem can be explained with two posts after. Right what I am trying to highlight is the BAFFLING inconsistency of viewpoints of players on the basis of roles. Sharp is a striker, we signed him to score. Accepted he scored twice today, but he had nothing to do with the creation of either goal, he just smacked it in and Fonte could have scored the first. As a Saints striker in the team Adkins plays, he is expected to do more than just hit it on for a yard. He has to make the space for him to run into (as Lee does), he should win the ball (as Barnard does), he should take it past some players (as Connelly does), he should pick the ball up from deep (as Guly and Lambert do) but he us completely unable to do any of those things. His performances are of a really average school boy striker, nick the easy goals. Other than that he can be lumped with the typical Guly criticism of might as well have 10 men on the pitch as he provides nothing to the rest of the game. By comparison, Guly gets absolute crap because he is not a headless chicken like steve or barnard or chaplow. He's quite an intelligent player, poor in the air, but when we stopped lumping it to him in the air for the first 15 mins of the second half it was working. Bringing on steve was pointless as his "I like to run" stuff worked for all of a minute till their left back cottoned on that he'll trip over the ball. The point is that 2 goals is a very deceiving performance from sharp. There is a huge amount of work to come from him before he looks like a worth while buy when several individual performances within the team are mindlessly slated because of hate figure status, when its pretty much unjustifiable. To name players, Guly wasn't terrible by any means (no one better on the right by a long way), Fox did his job well enough (despite a few of the silly cross field balls), Hammond is an ok anchor man (no Morg), Cork tried a lot (but not everything came off), Lallana should have had a hattrick, Rickie is being nursed back to fitness a bit. There's hate figures, blame to be had all across the squad but not for the player that scores 2 close range goals and does nothing when players who put mountains of effort in (one way or another) get berated for being a countless number of things other than a 1.9m signing.

Bah Sharp did a Johno quick performance, 2 tap ins (first should have been Fontes anyway) and then NOTHING, such a frustrating player. Everyone else gave it a good go against a keeper playing like a man possessed! Full credit to Ashdown, without him it would have been a cricket score line and was the only player pomp of championship standard. Still a mad home draw will do considering both goals were someone smacking it as hard as possible and looking surprised it was a goal. Hopefully we play like that against Palace and Reading for a decent chance of 6 points from the next 2 games. Home Morg is ok as we need him
-
Too sensible for saints web! Guly with not his best game but should never be a hate figure that everyone wants rid of considering when we don't play him and stick punch (who cannot see other players) chaplow (who's broken) and sdr we look more hopeless! Most fan's need to stop idolising work horses that run about and do nothing! Might as well go watch a league 2 team (or pomp when they end up there) as that standard of player just isn't what is needed in modern football.
-
Why do you think?!?! (the institution that is forcing them through administration....)
-
In what world would this exist?!!? Clearly too many people have been playing football manager and making things up as no footballer has a "I have to be picked" condition on their contract. That would be beyond stupid. He's picked because he's a decent, skilful player. Not the best in the air, which is why he plays where he is and we shouldn't hoof it towards him, but a good player. Much better player over the course of 45, 60 or even 90 than most the bench we have. Dull thread is dull
-
Sharp useless up front on his own, there is no polite way to sum up his individual performance. Back 4 have set very high standards for them selves this season and have had a poor day at the office. Saints have been beaten by a 3 simple things, energy on/off the ball, big dose of complacency and quite simply not doing our home work for what Blackpool where going to throw at us. First half Dobbie making runs in from the top of midfield that no one could go near cost us badly. It's a shame that we haven't done well on tv this year but 6 games to go and it's still in our hands
-
Can't happen quick enough! Blackpool doing what most teams do against us and play like a non-league side and just hounding everyone, taking a few lucky chances.
-
I had a dream that pomp at home would be some sort of 9-0 fest with them going down to 7 men. It finishes with their keeper being the 4th man sent off in the 90th with the whole crowd chanting for Kelvin to run up and smash home the 9th goal, which he does followed by a lap of the stands...

Club Finance Story - On Solent from 7am this morning
pingwing replied to saints_is_the_south's topic in The Saints
Perfect announcement, by comparison (with the share thing) imagine if we had the Mike Ashley solution to the cash he's pumped into Newcastle. Turns out they owe him something like £130m because he stumped up the cash to get around all the crippling interest payments and pay him back directly a couple of million a year (with only a fairly static source of income, unless they get Europe). I like this shares solution more because we (as a club) don't owe the Liebherr's any money now. We owe them a statue in gratitude or something (maybe the Markus stand) but no money from the club's earnings ever has to repay that 33m they invested, which means going into the Champ and the Prem (hopefully) we are free to operate how we ideally want to (not through difficult financial situations). On the big if of the Liebherr's wanting to sell the club, they basically have stated an asking price for a well run and perfectly functioning club. I doubt they will sell for their initial investment as there is plenty more money to be made from being a decent prem side. So realistically we are set, we don't need prem money to remain in business (like West Ham), we are not falling apart from bad investment (pomp) and we already have a pretty strong squad going forwards. This is the clarity we've all been waiting for to actually feel really positive for the direction of the club!
