Properly decent performance, against a good team. First team to keep out Everton's attack this season and up into the top half.

I wish him well... but no. In 4 years here he scored against WBA... who got relegated, Boro.... who got relegated, Sunderland... who got relegated and Spurs.... who were 5-0 up and already in the pub. He’ll do well in Ligue 1 and there’s no shame in that but he’s not about to suddenly light up Europe.

Hopefully he’s found a level where he can deliver consistently, for his own sake if nothing else.

Clearly we wouldn’t agree to anything as low as £40m and Ings wouldn’t agree to anything as high as £100m. £60m is probably about right for a player like him.

No, the psychology of playing in front of their own fans is what affected our team. I’ve seen plenty of games where the crowd was nothing but supportive or at worst indifferent to the team on the pitch and the still managed to bottle it. Crowds clearly make a difference, I think the lack of them is encouraging attacking players to take more risks, be more creative and not play it safe so much. This is turn is leading to more goals scored.

I’d take two draws right now, given they’re the two form teams in the league.

Van Nistelrooy sticks out in my mind, when he did his ACL in training at PSV. Pushed his move to United back a year I think.

There’s a lot of that going on, it seems like teams play with a lot more freedom without the psychological pressure of a stadium full of people. I know the butterfly effect and all that but it was such a shame Villa and Man Utd fans couldn’t see their games 2 weeks ago. I think against a team of £60m superstars there will always be a period of that.

I was a bit miffed by that too. Weird how it doesn’t seem to apply to our errors in their goals.
