  1. There was another, lesser known, 3-0 home defeat to Watford IIRC. Under Burley, when he played Jermaine Wright at LB and had Euell in front of him as the supposed winger. We had Vignal and Skacel on the bench. I don't think I've ever left a game that angry before, it really was a case of playing Wright at absolutely any cost. Absolutely clueless ineptitude on Burley's part which started me thinking he did genuinely have an alcohol problem. I think that was the game he just sat there like a lemon when we were 3-0 for half an hour, then threw Adam Hammill on with 2 minutes to go. The crowd REALLY got on his back at that point. Clueless manager.
  2. TCAS will not activate bellow 1000ft and in any case the A340 most likely didn't have his in TARA mode on the ground, which would give avoidance commands. No idea who said what on ATC but the crew of that A340 deserve a good slap for crossing an active runway without even a casual glance to see what's coming. It's not a common occurrence but happens from time to time and isn't newsworthy. When I heard on the news that, 'none of the passengers were injured,' I almost died of face palm.
  3. I actually didn't mind some of the players who got heavily criticised during that period. Skacel was clearly a talented player but was badly managed. We never got him fit and ended up playing him out of position. Licka was pretty handy and had an eye for a neat pass, yet Burley persisted with cloggers like Euell and Viafara. Saganowski was a deadly striker in a decent team but poor without decent service. I always felt he was at least trying, despite some people being adamant he only played for a contract. Never rated Safri, thought he was just a passenger. A neat passer but never creative, dominant or energetic. The worst player in that whole era though... Darren Powell. 50p head, Toblerone feet, f**k me he was hopeless.
  4. I think someone mentioned Ashley Cole CDAJFU at some point, he has signed for Roma on a 2 year deal.
  5. I do like Fonte but I wouldn't be all that disappointed if he saw out the last year of his contract and left a free agent next summer. He has been good but he isn't that good. Lovren has made him look better this season in much the same way Killer made Claus look good. Fonte always has a mistake or two in him and I think we can find a better first choice CB. I personally think Yoshida is marginally the better defender and he is 5 years younger. Having said all of that, I do believe the OP to be complete horse sh*t.
  6. I meant the way he had disappeared from the match day squad, as opposed to the training ground all together. Good to see him around but I do not regard him as Premier League quality either.
  7. We definitely need a 'keeper. If, or rather when, Boruc gets injured there is nobody in our squad capable of filling in. Gazza is a long way from being a Premier League 'keeper and I wouldn't be surprised if Kelvin has unofficially retired, the way he seems to have disappeared from the squad. Gazza cost us points last season and just looks like an accident waiting to happen. If we have to make do without Boruc for a couple of months, we really are in trouble IMO.
  8. Jones went on strike in 2007 when Wilde was in charge.
  9. Grieving? F**k me...
  10. If the money was spread out evenly across all the teams there would be no motivation to win it and most clubs would put there reserves out. Nobody would want to watch that, if nobody watches it there is no money and then the whole thing collapses. The fact that there is so much money involved shows that there is a lot of interest in the competition and people are willing to pay large amounts to watch games on TV. It's capitalism. It may not be perfect but it's the best system we can think of.
  11. 27, Osvaldo played for Italy in October.
  12. We do, that's what the qualifiers are.
  13. Every Champion can get through to the Champions League, it's just that most of them are crap and get knocked out in the qualifying rounds. To give you an example of some of the Champions in this years qualifiers Nomme Kalju - spanked 10-2 on agg. by Viktoria Plzen Daugavpils - spanked 11-1 by Elfsborg Sutjeska Niksic - spanked 6-1 by Sheriff Tiraspol Gyor - Lost 4-1 to Maccabi Tel Aviv Ludogorets - Lost 6-2 to Basel These are all Champions of their respective Leagues getting hammered by average teams in the qualifiers. Put them up against the likes of City and Bayern they will get destroyed. Nobody is going to watch it.
  14. That wasn't the question though, Cyclon was suggesting the CL would be better with just the Champions. It's going off topic but I disagree. Do like the idea of a playoff place for the FA Cup winners and a playoff between 3rd-6th in the League for the 3rd automatic place. Would make the League much more interesting for the likes of Saints, Everton, Spuds and Newcastle.
  15. So you would tune in to watch a game between Levadia Tallinn and Man City. That would constitute better entertainment to you than say City against Real or Bayern against Barca? It would be a crap competition, it's basically the Europa League but with Man City, Athletico, Bayern, PSG and Juve thrown in. There wouldn't be a game worth watching until you got to the semi finals. It would just be the Champions of Slovenia, Montenegro and Hungary getting smashed by the bigger clubs in the early stages.
  16. You are suggesting Saints are going to win the Premier League, in order to qualify for Cyclon's proposed Champs League?
  17. Would ruin the Champions League and probably a lot of domestic leagues too. Would you really want to watch Maribor, Shamrock Rovers, Dinamo Minsk and Levadia Tallinn instead of Real, Barca, Chelsea, Arsenal and Dortmund?
  18. Harvey? Unlikely IMO.
  19. Liking the look of matey on the left. Anyone who is too cool to wear a tie in the photo has got to be good. The black guy with the red tie has certainly got a sh*t enough hair cut to play for Liverpool.
  20. What makes you think we need a 5th and 6th choice striker? It depends on the system we play. Last year 3 would be enough, playing one up front with J Rod, Lambert and Osvaldo all able to lead the line. If we are going 3-5-2 then 4 strikers are probably needed but never 6. Sharp and Mayuka are surplus to requirements, neither comes close to Premier League standard, let alone top half.
  21. Twitter rumours are the new, 'bloke down the pub told me...' Who on twitter?
  22. You've re-written what I said so you can get on your high horse. I didn't say being a footballer was more demanding or important. It is however more difficult and Luke possesses a unique level of talent which no other teenager, possibly in the world, possesses. That's why he is paid so much. He has unique abilities and his skills are worth tens of millions to a club. I didn't say being a carer was easy either. I said anyone could do it given minimal training. You don't need a degree in neurology to be a care worker. I'm not being crass or disrespectful, I'm sure it is a tough job at times. It does not however take a special talent to be a care worker. I wont try it thanks, I've made my career choice. She made hers, I'm not sure why you are complaining about her wages or comparing her to a Premier League footballer.
  23. Interesting comment about 'I can tell from your face you support Ajax'. I wonder if he was implying 'You look like a Jew' when he said that.
  24. What if Liverpool draw Barca in the CL next year? I just hope there are some better tasting players in the Liverpool squad. Maybe Suarez can lick them and find out.
