Can understand Maynard going to Wigan, as it stands they are a better prospect than Saints. They are likely to offer better wages for a start and there are enough sh*t teams in the Premier League at the moment for Wigan to stay up. Even if Wigan go down, they will have a decent shot at promotion for a couple of seasons with their parachute payments. All off this makes them more appealing than Saints and much more appealing than Bristol City. Sharp... I have no idea what personal issues he may or may not have at the moment. All sorts of rumours that he wants to come here, but we aren't bidding enough etc. etc.

So would you expect Bristol City fans to boo after they beat us at Ashton Gate? Afterall, they were still in the bottom 3 after being crap all season. People weren't reacting to our League possition, they were reacting to the game right in front of them. Which was sh*te. If people were upset about our league possition they'd be singing Adkins out etc. Not 5 seconds of booing at the final whistle.

Last night really made me want to sign Sordell more than any of the other names being spread around. Need some pace up front badly.

The official unofficial January transfer targets thread..

Christ on a bike, why are people so obsessed with Vokes? According to the Football League website he has scored 2 goals for Burnley this season and 1 in the League cup for Wolves. He can barely get into Burnley's side, so why would we want him. People are just obsessed because he is a Saints fan. -
I don't see the problem with booing at full time. Half time no, because there's still time to turn it around and make up for a poor first half. Anyone who pays good money to watch a performance like that has the right to boo a team. Why not, that was dreadful. I know we've had a brilliant season, 2nd in the league etc. etc. but that counts for nothing if you play like we did last night. Booing is the fans way of saying "that was utter sh*te and I don't ever want to see it again". Personally I want the players in no 2 minds about it.

So you are of the belief that people are put off crack and heroin by the law? The law is even less of a deterant for people on hard drugs than those who just do a bit of weed every now and then. People who smoke cannabis quite often have a job, a family and a pretty decent grip on reality. Heroin junkies don't. ALL they care about is where their next hit is coming from. They will steal from anyone, including their own ofamily to pay for their habbit. They don't care for one second about the law. The best we can do for these people is: 1. Make sure they are getting clean drugs, as opposed to the stuff laced with rat poison off their dealer. 2. Make sure they are getting FREE clean syringes and a place to safely dispose of old ones. I doubt this will be very effective, but anything which reduces the use of dirty needles can only be good. 3. Make sure the government is getting the money from these people instead of criminal gangs. 4. Make sure some of this money goes into rehab centres, councillors etc. to get people off drugs.

Well if he has, it's no surprise tonights performance was completely alien to him.

For me our strongest 11 would be: Davis Richardson - Fonte - Hooiveld - Fox Chaplow - Hammond - Cork - Lallana Lambert - Barnard The players in bold were all missing this evening, which to me would point toward something of an injury crisis. I don't think we should be singing player in such a scenario to cover the cover we have. People are talking about signing 2 centre halves. Seriously? That'd be 7 on the books, a very expensive luxury. A one month loan to get us through should surfice.

Christ, if some of you are writing De Ridder off after tonight's game, what about the rest of them? I thought he was one of the better players on the very rare occasions he got the ball. He just hasn't had anything like a decent run in the side. He got a couple of starts against Palace and Bristol and was by most accounts one of our best players. He probably didn't start tonight because he's been injured and we didn't know if he'd be fit for 90 minutes.

I know I'm 3 hours late for this but I have just driven up to Bristol, so here goes... We were sh*te (has anyone touched upon this yet, can't be arsed trawling through the whole thread to find out). I can't think of one decent performance from any of them really. Jos and Martin I think achieved mediocrity, but that's about it. We just never looked up for it. Chasing long balls over the top was a complete none starter. Hitting it high at Guly and Connolly was never going to work either, but we compounded the problem by never fighting for the second ball. We got bypassed in midfield, did nothing up front and fell asleep at the back. We had a couple of decent chances. Cork... f**king hell it's easy to see why he's never scored for us. Holmes put one effort wide. That's about the "highlights" of it as far as Saints are concerned. Can't be arsed giving all the players marks out of 10, but for me Harding and Connolly were the worst. We got away with Harding at RB against sh*t teams, but tonight he looked like a fish up a tree. A full back who can't turn his man outside is an accident waiting to happen. He was hardly an improvement at LB if I'm being honnest. Connolly did nothing. I maintain what I said after the Forest game. When Saints are brilliant, Connolly is a decent player. If we are anything less than brilliant he goes missing. I'd give them both 1/10 and they only get 1 for not being Darren Powell.

I think a 1 month loan would surfice here. Jos - looks like a small tweek, I'd hope he will be back in a couple of weeks at the most Fonte - Surely isn't far off Martin - Is fine. Cork - Will do in an emergency

I'm all for decriminalising drugs, all of them. Clearly the law is not a deterant for most people. I don't know anyone who has wanted to take drugs, but refused on the basis that they are illegal. I know people who take drugs because they want to and I know know people who don't take drugs because they don't want to. That's it. Obviously an age limit is required, same as alcohol, but I think most adults are capable of making their own decisions. If you legalise drugs you can sell it and tax it. You'd save millions each year in Policing drug crime, and the tax revenues would be enormous.

Best bit of business Southampton have ever done
Lighthouse replied to Crazy Diamond's topic in The Saints
I thought this was the best, not the most expensive? Walcott was a class act in the Championship and has gone on to play for England several times. I'd have said £10m including all the add ons was a pretty reasonable price, as opposed to "great business" for Saints. On the other hand, £15m for a League 1 player is just insane money. £7m for Bridge was a bit of a bargain for Chelsea I'd have said. Considering they then went on to pay £30m for Ashley Cole. I'd have said Bridge was as good as Cole when we sold him, but that's just my opinion. -
Futacs, Ward and Huseklepp might be useful squad players if we already had them. Would I sign them? Absolutely not.

Roughly in order, best at the top. The Buys Chaplow - £50k Fuller - £90k Pahars - £800k Beattie - £1m Lambert - £1m Crouch - £2m The Sells Chamberlain - £15m Richards - £8m Davies - £7.5m Beattie - £6m Burley - Whatever Scotland paid for him -
Is it ok as a supporter to wear least season's kit this season?
Lighthouse replied to Tom8558's topic in The Saints
The only acceptable way to watch football is to meet in a real ale pub at 9am and drink said ale until 2.45pm before heading to the ground. Upon reaching the ground you must then arrive at your seat 10 minutes late for every match. Stone Island shirts and Henry Lloyd jackets are the only acceptable attire. Replica shirts are banned. Anyone with a name printed on a shirt is banned for life. Those wearing face paints, jester hats or red and white wigs are to be ritually stoned to death at half time. Anyone who fails to follow these rules is either a pikey, a student or a gayer. -
Which countries have you packed up and moved to in 2 weeks? Don't you think it's possible that Lee has been told to sort his life out and get everything in order, rather than having a lot of loose ends in the back of his mind whilst we rush him into the matchday squad. After all we were told by the club that he had an "Outside chance" of being in the squad for the Leicester game. "Outside chance" means possible but unlikely, and we told this a couple of weeks ago when the story was first posted on the OS. Clearly the club were expecting it to take this long when they first said it was pretty much a done deal, a couple of weeks ago.

I maintain that Middlesboro really aren't that good. They've made a living grinding out narrow 1 goal victories against crap teams in a similar fasion to Brighton last season. The difference being Brighton were much better at it and Boro are very inconsistent. Today and their visit to St Marys aren't the only times they haven't turned up for a match. Not sure I'm as confident as Benji; Wham, Brum and Cardiff all look strong at the moment.

Most random player name you've had on the back of your shirt?
Lighthouse replied to Big_Bald_Si's topic in The Saints
They will need a new club to support in a couple of weeks. Good planning I think, getting in early. I for one applaud them. -
Well, more fool you IMO. I know a lot of people who have moved out to Dubai. Even with all the help they could need from their new employer, no language barrier issues and a well established system for integrating hundreds of Western Expats into a similar job it STILL took them a good month to move accross and get sorted. How much are you willing to bet that Lee doesn't sign?
-
I had Cardiff and Wham down as home bankers today, so I suppose I'm not overly upset. However for the Skates to get that close and then f**k it up with 1 minute of injury time left is a kick in the balls. Still, Boro losing is an unexpected bonus and they had 2 men sent off, with the associated suspensions to come.
