  1. I seem to be fighting a losing battle trying to make this point. I am not arguing the case for God the religious entity who made the world in 7 days etc. etc. I am saying there COULD well be an intelligent entity behind the bigger questions in the universe. I can't prove it, hence I am not saying this is the case. However by the same logic you cannot categorically say there is no intelligent entity. You're implying that because you can't prove something, it cannot be true. That's ridiculous.
  2. So you're saying that nothing can possibly be true unless it can be explained by mankind's extremely limited understanding of the universe? And my 'fact' behind this is the alternative being a trillion to 1 shot that the universe "just happened". I think you're the one who doesn't understand this (as well as being needlessly patronising).
  3. I agree. That is half of my POV. However I think people who say he/she/it 100% doesn't exist are equally at fault. I don't have a problem with belief systems. If people do or do not believe in God is up to them, but you cannot know either way. Regarding your tennis ball scenario; I would have to admit that it's possible you have a tennis ball behind your back, but I don't have any evidence to prove it either way. 500 years ago we had no knowledge of dark matter, antineutrinos or Bruce Forsyth but it doesn't mean they weren't there. I'd say the answer to that lies in the ability to question your beliefs. People who I'd say have been brainwashed (Islamists, EDL, Pompey fans) clearly have no concept of what they're doing is just wrong.
  4. Wooooah, hang on... I'm not against any of science's theories. I am very scientifically and logically minded in general. I know we can explain a heck of a lot through our current understanding of the universe, but there is a sh*t load of stuff we do not yet know. It's like when the Police say 50% of domestic violence goes unreported. How do they know? You do not know what you do not know (Sorry, I know that sounds a bit Donald Rumsfeld). I know there is very little evidence of a God, but that doesn't mean there can't be one (I'm talking about a 'higher being' here, not a religious entity). I agree the burden of proof should be on the hypothesiser, but saying "there isn't a God" is as much a hypothesis as saying there is. If I told you there was a coin in my pocket, which of these would you say was true: a) There is definitely a coin in my pocket because I said so. b) There definitely is not a coin in my pocket because you have no evidence to suggest there is. Most religion falls into category A, whereas atheism falls into category B. I don't see how either of these can be correct, so it has to be another option: c) It is possible there could be a coin in my pocket. You cannot say either way. If there is, you don't know if it's a 10p, 50p etc. If may turn out that it's not actually a coin at all, but a button or a small stone. Now my brain hurts...
  5. Firstly it is not incorrect. It really is phenomenally unlikely that the universe 'just happened'. I never said that couldn't happen, only that it is highly unlikely. My personal belief is that there is an intelligent creative force behind it all. It's as valid an oppinion as any other. Secondly, nobody has a good enough grasp of physics to even come close to answering the biggest questions in the universe. Yes we know about the big bang, etc. but there is so much more that we just don't know. The fact that we are here does not prove anything. We have a vague idea about how we are here, that's about it.
  6. I'm refering to God as in a higher being or creative, intelligent entity. I don't believe he created the world in 7 days etc. I'm open to the suggestion of a God, agnostic if you will. However I think to say definitively it can't exist is pretty ignorant. The 'logic' behind it being that there has got to be a one in a trillion chance of the universe existing as it does. I think it's highly unlikely that all this "just happened", it's more likely there is something intelligent behind it all. Put simply, I'm open to the concept of a 'God', but I don't believe in religion.
  7. Impossible to say either way. B*gger all evidence to support either argument.
  8. Rooney is like a potato on so many levels.
  9. It's odd. I'm in favour of the death penalty, yet I find myself opposed to this kind of thing. I guess it's because the death penalty is 'humane' whereas putting acid in someone's eyes is just barbaric. Even if they did the same first.
  10. Nugent, Mancienne, Cork, Antonio
  11. Can't say I'm that much a fan of Riordan either. 13 goals a year in the SPL isn't much to shout about and then there's this:
  12. Well, you could do what they do in the West Country and drive around 20mph below the speed limit.
  13. Don't get why people want to sign Bridge. He has been poor for ages and we have 3 very good LBs on the books, not to mention Shaw, who seems to be getting rave reviews. Signing him would just be adding another very large chunk the the wage bill.
  14. Maybe he could get a job, like the rest of us who are too sh*t to make a career in professional football?
  15. I reckon he might have stayed if he'd had a few first team opportunities, but instead bagpuss gave them to dross like Powell and Hajto.
  16. Ciprian Cedric Joseph Desire
  17. Get the whole ground doing 'armpit farts'. Childish I know but I'd imagine the sound of 20,000 people doing it at the same time would be something to behold. Or failing that, I like the nads out suggestion too.

    Now what ?

I'll go back to my usual routine of standing on street corners screaming at traffic. Oh, and hopefully off to a Grand Prix or 3 if I can make it.
  19. 1. He isn't clearly on any kind of contract. We've no idea what he is on, although players with Prem Experience seldom come cheap. 2. Oakley had one very serious injury which kept him out a long time. The rest of his career he has been fit as a fiddle. Connolly is different, he seems to be having recurring issues with various injuries which have limited his playing time for the best part of 5 years now. I can't see that improving. 3. Your apparent contempt for our finances is worrying. We can't afford to have passengers on the wage bill and if we kept DC we'd still need another striker aswell. If we start making significant losses, the Liebherrs are far more likely to ditch us. 4. You're happy for him to be fit for 20 minutes a couple of times a month? Why, so he can score another 4 goals like he did this season? If all 4 of the came in injury time at Fratton Park I might see your point, but that's a bit of a long shot.
  20. It works when Lech Poznan do it, but it would be incredibly naff at most English grounds when they're half empty. If were going to 'do the Poznan' maybe we should start taking 5,000 ultras to our under 12 games. Personally I'd be happy if we could just stop singing Pompey fan on a string which seems to be sung exclusively by pwopa nawty 12 year olds who think they're 'ard. Although if I had to suggest an 80s song to bring back, I'm sure we'd all like a quick sing along to 'wake me up before you go go'.
  21. I'm going to say 1st July. Out of contract player snapped up on a free.
  22. I think the key will be finding a good blend. There is no saying experienced players couldn't DAJFU, just like Jaidi and Perry but the last thing we want is to end up like Cardiff did a few years ago with Hasselbaink and Fowler. I was at St Marys when we played them that season and I don't think I've ever seen 2 footballers look less interested in a game of football. If we signed Cork, Nugent and Antonio I'd probably jizz in my pants.
  23. Used to sit in block 2 and vaguely remember Block 1 being used as segregation for some matches. Don't see why they can't do that again with very little by way of extra stewarding. Doesn't matter if there is 4ft or 4 miles of that black netting, you aren't getting across it.
  24. Which will turn out to be massively expensive in terms of transfer fees and wages. We'd be going back to the Burley days of signing big names on big wages again and, but for an injection from the Liebherrs, going back into administration. It worked in League 1 because our attendances were massively disproportionate most of the other teams and we desperately needed to get out. Even so, we only spent £3m ish and still made a small loss. Doing that in the NpC could cost us £10m in transfers and something similar in wages.
  25. Leeds and Udders Wigan, Blackpool and Burnley Wolves and Brum All possibilities.
