Not from Southampton but now living in London. Picked Saints when i was about 7, little knowing what a rollercoaster ride i was setting myself up for.

Happy with quality over quantity any day. If we can just get another good option upfront i'll be very excited about where we are heading this season.

Premiership Released players...
Baird of the land replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Personally thought he was a very good right back. Maybe not the modern attacking one in vogue at the moment but then defending has always been my primary valuation of defenders. Worst right back i ever saw for Saints was Ostlund. Couldn't defend at all. -

Would love to see Baird back at Saints. We do need a 2nd choice right back and since he's a versatile player too it might be worth a shot. At 31 still has a number of decent years in him. -
Retained List - When Published?

Surprised we've released Richardson. Seemed a very solid deputy for Clyne imo. -
Saints 3 Liverpool 1 - Post Match Reactions
Baird of the land replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Felt absurdly confident of the 3 points against Liverpool given the recent form. Thought they were a team that would be ripe for the taking if we applied ourselves. Very happy to see it come to pass. Hopefully we can push on and guarantee safety. -
Poor selections by the Potchettino imo, coupled with mediocre performances. Really puts Saints in deep trouble. No point in beating Man City if you get embarassed by QPR.

So are we now officially OVER Nigel Adkins
Baird of the land replied to Miltonroader07's topic in The Saints
Still very disappointed at the treatment of Adkins. Was very unsure of Potchettino choice but so far he seems to have potential. Cortese may not be the nicest guy and while it is still early day it might turn out to be a shrewd appointment. -
Find it odd that we apparently have no intention to bring anyone in. Better hope no one gets injured or we could be in trouble.
-
Still really hoping we get a wide man in, especially if SDR is off on loan.
-
I assume the riquelme speculation i just saw on BBC website is just that, right?
-
Poor player. Didn't need to sign him either as we had Bairdy at the time who just hadn't been given a chance by successive managers.
-
Face to face.
-
Disagree completely with the article as it completely misses the point. The disgrace wasn't in sacking adkins, it was the manner of the sacking imo.
-
I'd suggest singing 'there's only one nigel adkins' after the fulltime whistle blows. Less likely to have a Chelseaesque effect on the team. Up to then cheer on the team.
-
Really bizarre. Disagree with the sacking of adkins but even if we were going to sack him why appoint someone with - No experience of english prem - No success as a coach - history of bad man management

Is it okay for Saints players to dive and cheat?
Baird of the land replied to the stain's topic in The Saints
I'd prefer the premier league to have a challenge system such as Tennis/American Football/Cricket etc where the managers have a small number of times to challenge big decisions to a video ref. As the system stands i have no problem with Rodriguez taking advantage by diving as it is no different to deliberately handballing/going down with minimal contact etc. -
Adkins' future in doubt (again) - Daily Mail
Baird of the land replied to Bailey's topic in The Saints
Think we should stick with adkins. Of the two named would probably prefer Gross. Guy was never given a fair crack at Tottenham and has had a good career. -
Really hope we put out the 1st XI against Chelsea. Only reason to rest anyone is if they are carrying a knock.

Liverpool 1-0 Saints - After Match Moan
Baird of the land replied to skintsaint's topic in The Saints
Disappointed but not surprised. Playing 3 games in a week with no rotation is going to tell. Would have liked a few fresh legs thrown in personally in either midweek or today. Hope with a bit of rest they'll come back for big game next week. -
Gazzaniga is what he is. A talented if unfinished player. On paper Boruc is the more finished article but given his levels of fitness, his recent issue with the fans and the fact gazzaniga has been in the team while results have improved somewhat i'd be surprised if we changed it. I'll trust adkins to make that choice though.
-
Really frustrating. Committing suicide when you've worked so hard to get in front. Hope this line-up gets a few games together.
-
Still supporting Adkins and hope he gets at least to Jan to try and turn it round. If he does go definitely don't want Redknapp anywhere near saints. Would love Saints to be able to attract the likes of Bielsa but think it is farfetched that he'd be interested in Saints.
-
Really can't understand adkins thinking. We've got a 1st X1 back 5 that have barely played together and yet rather than give them a cup game to help them gel he plays a complete reserve team. The whole 1st X1 must be low on confidence and yet they are left at home when we haven't got a game till monday. Really don't get the benefit of reserves being beaten by Leeds.

The idea of playing a fixed formation no matter the opposition seems bizarre. The idea of trying to move over a longer period to 4-3-3 being our default formation does not. The idea of others being responsible for the transfer policy doesn't particularly bother me as long as coach is involved in the discussions as to the type of players needed. The idea of regularly dropping our star player/subbing him repeatedly bothers me immensely. I really don't get how being toothless against W.Ham in the 1st half was a good idea. I'm still supporting Adkins for now, given all the goodwill for masterminding 2 successive promotions.
