Ralph to bow out in around 2 years (2024)
Baird of the land replied to AlexLaw76's topic in The Saints
Very silly thing to say imo. Short term probably little impact as its still some way off. However if he's still here for that last year it'll likely be horrrible. Hope the club wouldn't accept such a scenario and would cut him loose early. -
Yeah it worked well last time till Salisu's moment of madness. So while i think it was a mistake against coventry i'd be happy to see it on Wed instead of a 4-2-2-2
-
Shame his debut didn't go as hoped. Looked good going forward but hopefully coaches can work with him on his positional sense defensively. Was nice seeing before the game seeing KWP with his arm around him giving him advice.
-
Last time we played them we went 5-3-2 if memory serves me right. So something like.. Forster, KWP, Stephens, Bednarek, Salisu, Perraud JWP Romeu Armstrong Broja Adams

Saints 3-1 West Ham - Match Thread

Not a good draw but at least we are at home. Other disappointing thing is how easy the big teams draws are. To have a real chance of winning we need to start thinning them out & i don't really see Luton/Peterborough or Norwich doing that. -
Back from the game. First half we were awful and luckily got in one nil down. Just seemed nothing to our play. The 5-3-2 wasn’t the right choice for this sort of game imo. Small has to get better at defending. A few times he looked a threat going forward but that’s not the bread and butter. A.Armstrong reminds me of early Adams before he got the city goal. Looked a bit lost unfortunately. Of the fringe players Valery was probably the best but still had one horror show of a backpass in the 2nd half. The positives, it was a win. That was a glorious goal by Stu Armstrong.

Newcastle transfers are generally sort of calibre you'd expect given their situation. Most good players aren't going to go there while they are stuck in a relegation battle. Massively overpaying for steady players makes some sense. Worse case scenario the likes of Burn/Wood will help them get re-promoted.

Find the rumoured Cantwell from Norwich to Bournemouth very odd. His stock has really dropped / he must have really burned some bridges at Norwich.
-
You could easily go down a rabbit hole with a broad definition of dangerous which would be bad for the game. Players can get injured in all sorts of ways.
-
I just don't think it was a game suited to Moi. Shame our options for 10 were so limited today.
-
To me a glancing/raking blow like that might well be painful but i don't see the nature of the challenge itself as dangerous. If it is dangerous play i just think that widens massively the notion of dangerous play. Any sort of lunging challenge regardless of whether the ball is got rather than the man becomes dangerous which is a major issue in a contact sport like football.
-
To be fair its nice that he isn't going for the easy 'we didn't play well' excuse. Saying they played well is good praise for us.
-
I really liked how spiky he is. Got in the face of the city wingers and didn't let them settle.
-
Annoying hearing analysts on sky talk about potential red. 'Laporte' didn't get out of the way. Glancing blow seems the perfect description as it was vertical rathr than horizontal direction of contact.
-
I thought they were all the same size but a google search does seem to suggest ours is one of the smaller. Makes sense with our pressing style.
-
Jinxed us now. We will probably get them in the cup.

Also nice to have a positive refereering display I was sure Var was going to intervene too but was positively surprised by the var official showing sense. The non penalty wasn't a clear and obvious error imo and while armstrong caught the defender quite high i don't think it was dangerous. It was a scraping one because he just missed the ball.
-
Absolutely magnificent display. Just a shame to concede from a set piece. Salisu was amazing, surely the club must be doing their upmost to agree a new deal with him. Good to see Armstrong back to something like his best. Still think i'd prefer to see Lyanco over Bednarek. Just has so much more to his game. Assume Redmond must have picked up an injury as Elyounessi was less effective.
-
I’d switch back to 4 at the back given city’s lack of traditional strikers. Something akin to 4-5-1/4-3-3 would be my choice Forster kwp lyanco salisu perraud romeu jwp armstrong tella Broja redmond
-
I thought Lyanco was good today. He has seemed a pretty astute signing so far.

Very frustrating loss. We should have had a penalty. Var is a joke. I do wonder if Saints missed a trick by not appealing more and romeu should have rolled around on the floor. Compare our reaction to the wolves player reaction for the bednarek one. That was an absolute corker of a free kick by Prowsey.
-
The wolves player clearly kicked Romeu after romeu got the ball. Where was the VAr review?
-
I think bednarek brushes the ball in his first challenge but since he doesn't clear the ball his second challenge where he doesn't get the ball is why its given as a pen. Agree that it's the sort of decision that sometimes won't be given consistently.
-
Very even before the goal. The goal itself was frustrating. Tella trying to play from the edge of the area rather than clearing it and allowing us to reset. Then a bit of bad luck where Bednarek gets a touch of the ball then with his second movement catches the man. Once i saw the replay i was pretty sure it was going to be a penalty. Then we had our best spell but Salisu couldn't quite direct his header and tella got under a very good chance. Still feel we've got a decent chance but equally could be picked off on the break. I'd like to get adams on for redmond as i feel Broja's been isolated too much.

Lambert: was such an amazing player for us. Ings: as much as I dislike his choice to go to villa he was quality while here. pelle: great piece of business by koeman. 4th is tough. I can’t give it to Jrod as his best spell came out wide. Gabbi had such a short productive window. Probably have to give it to Shane for his longevity for now but Broja or even Adams could well overhaul that spot by season’s end.
