Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 1-1 Manchester City
Saint86 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Good point Alps, i haven't considered what it means for squad depth, still chuffed with watching our u21's beating the most expensive team in england. Personally that game should end the cork vs wanayama thread.... Cork is clearly the better player and as ward prowse showed countless times vs toure, strength is not everything! To consider if we didnt play him and actually sell him to a rival is an option, its just madness!! -

Good result, shame we couldn't get the three points but with our injuries beggars can't be choosers. Would have stomached a defeat if it allows blooding the kiddies... But to get a draw and get them some more experience is good. Great future! Osvaldo bashing to take a back seat for a bit? -
as if the injury list wasn't bad enough....

Its unfortunate that no one in Rowe's postion is injured. Likewise Sinclair. They are the 2 most exciting prospects for me. If they don't get promoted they should move on to a championship team where they can get some first team football. Both are quality wingers... which sadly we don't seem to use or need. -
Talk about selective injuries. Did clyne also run into a post. What about all the other various ins and outs we've had in recent weeks or early substitutions to combat fatigue. There is no smoke without fire and if you over work the body you pick up niggles.
-
The thing is, I said this was coming 2 weeks ago. And duncan RG just ripped into me as a bed wetter. How long can you do double training sessions and play the same 13players week in week out with this intensive style of play and not get injuries. To compound this, the utter lack of squad rotation means players like cork and yoshida, who were regulars last season, now have had no game time, and are making mistakes. I described this as MoPo's biggest weakness, he had the same issues at espanyol regarding fatigue and player fitness... Its also interesting because we had comparitely very good runs with injuries under Adkins... eg. Morgan who was essentially uninjured for 2.5 years... I like the way we're playing and the clubs philosphy, and i like MoPo.. I think he is a good manager who makes good tactical decisions to affect games as well. However, a not insiginifant part of me wonders what Nigel Adkins would have achieved with this squad, and we certainly wouldnt have had these injuries with him in charge. I accept that it is unlikely we would have landed osvaldo... but Lovren was signed by NC and the comittee, as was wanyama. The "gash" as so many people have named him, would also be getting more game time, and Lambert would be doing better...
-
Pretty damn simple, I don't want to read what certain posters type... yet we are all forced to see it when other people quote them... Everyone's lives would be much simpler if we just could not see these posts, they couldn't be quoted to those that have them on ignore, and basically, we don't get to see that they have even posted. That would be bliss.

Eurosaint thanks for the laugh buddy, needed that as a cheer me up after the wave of negativity on this forum after being unlucky against villa. I'd like to pick out the highlight in a sea of bullsh:t ! We did lose to Sunderland ! :mcinnes: I think you'll also find that Arsenal hit the post twice before they scored Don't know if you follow the games or not? But doubting it tbh. I think you'll also find that there was a thread about us being in a title race on this forum - so that wasn't BS either. And also, we do have issues with our overall fitness/injuries developing.... which part of what I wrote was bull****? Because literally what you wrote was just wrong In addition, thanks for the insightful comments discussing the teams issues. moron. Eurosaint thanks for the laugh buddy, needed that as a cheer me up after the wave of negativity on this forum after being unlucky against villa.

Cork has been out injured for a week and a half. Don't forget that we have a very thin line which needs to tackle city as well. I agree it is worrying that he isn't getting in the team, as a i fell we could use him, however I will wait to see how much game time he gets in the next couple of games before I assumed he is on his way.

So against chelsea, we let in 3 goals... none of which were fluke or bad luck... Just poor defending as was highlighted on sky. Arsenal carved us apart with ease, okay the first goal was sloppy, but they also hit the post twice before that, and the goal was another defending error. Stats wise we did okay vs the Arse, but they were far far more dangerous. We have also lost to Sunderland (weakened team granter), secured a 2-0 win against fulham who I would say are the worst team in the league and who have been beaten by most teams since via a higher margin. We were also outplayed by swansea and got lucky. There is a case to argue saying that we have flattered to deceive... We are hard to beat, and in general we make less mistakes than the teams we beat... hence getting some wins. But we are getting shown up vs the big sides. Therefore there is room for improvement. To say that we are unlucky to have lost these games due to flukes/mistakes etc is to gloss over the fact that we need to be better to achieve what we want.... Don't understand why people accept mediocrity, nor why people take labeling performances as mediocre is in anyway not supporting the team. They are simply a statement of fact. When we were 3rd people were banging on about being in a title race, we even had threads on here about it... now we have had a wake up call and can see where we are in relation to arsenal and chelsea... the first we could maybe have sneaked a draw (with luck) the second put us roundly in our place, especially when you consider how badly they underperformed in the first half, and how they raised their game and turned it around in 30min. So if people want to on the one hand get all high in the clouds over good results, they need to also accept that to sustain that level of performances the club/team need to improve certain areas. And an acknowledgement of those areas is being bloody honest. The concerns at the moment are over fitness and injury levels, lack of clear goalscoring chances and offset against that is the number of defensive mistakes we have made. Prior to Chelsea, 3 of the last 4 goals we let in were due to defensive mistakes/cock ups - needs to be tighter, and vs chelsea we just got out tactic'd (no shame) and made defensive lapses with the marking. (some want to blame gaza 0.o)

Who cares if he is ready? We are unlikely to make euro qualification this season, and we aren't getting relegated (that is for damn sure!) so lets get these kids in and blood them as much as possible, yes we may lose some games, but f**k it, its a wasted season for me if we A.) don't get europe, or, B.) Don't blood the youngsters.... needs to be one or t'other frankly.
-
So you don't think we may hit a wall going through the season with the same 11 players, double training sessions and no squad rotation... In fact he is actually trying to get rid of ramirez by all accounts as well as giving cork no game time... You answered very legitimate points with your usual disrepsect (not sure why i took you off ignore) for anyone with a different oppionion to yourself.... lets ignore the fact that espanyol's team struggled with the above issues shall we... If you can't see that we are starting to develop little niggles and tiredness then i'm surprised... Note that I am no point attacking MoPo, but lets face it, if he was the perfect manager he wouldn't be at saints, and every playing style has its draw backs matey, I think his may well be jaded players.... Christmas will show us, but I don't think you should be showing me the disrespect of sarcastic replies for raising a legitimate question. Christmas will be interesting. And a part of me would like to have seen what Adkins would do with this team.... he wouldn't have assembled them, fair enough, but I bet he'd have done a good job with them.
-
Persoanlly, I wonder if we are about to see everything that is wrong with pochettino, double training sessions, NO squad rotation, and refusal to even adapt tactics when the high line press inst working (chelsea today is a prime example, as was arsenal).... Injury, fatigue, players coming in that aren't familiar to the system.... I have niggling worries starting to come in to play. Hope i am wrong. But I do wonder what Nigel would have done with this squad of players... He was doing pretty good when he was fired, poch struggled at the end of the season (limped over the line)... will be interesting. But we've had the managers honeymoon period for sure now, had the summer, had the boards backing.... this is his test time for me. I have serious doubts about the way he wants us to play being sustainable... and if we cant manage it for just the league, we have no hope accross both cups and europe imho...
-
We didn't play great today sadly, only in glimpses anyway. We do look blunt upfront, not really sure why we brought Osvaldo, we don't seem to know how to use him effectively which is a worry since poch should know his game inside out, but he doesn't seem a team player and the detracts from team. All in all these games are showing us where we are... We can give the big boys a good game but struggle against them up front. Only the second team to clearly outplay us under poch today, and it makes iit 5-0 to JM vs MP. Wanyama went back to his usual poor dopey play, jwp was below his usual standards. Lovren was very good, and jayrod did some good work. Shaw pretty good also. The rest were fairly average.

Stupid really, they werer crap when he took over in league 1, got promoted, no budget and still they moan, yet he is a proven to be solid manager at these levels.
-
Crap, the English police are out on saintsweb.... gg world!
-
I believe i read somewhere yesterday that he has only lost three times at home in his whole managerial career, that is some feet if true! Either way though, he is loosing on sunday

I was so hoping this was portsmouth, seems they have dodged the bullet this season. Still they will be conference next year .... ';.;'

Ah the classic saints web manners, love it. Also followed up with a healthy bit of bedwetting by suggesting that KL wants him liquidated (does she have the power to liquidate cortese by the way?)
-
You know that 2 of them will start right? Can't believe so many are advocating dropping JayRod. Oh to be an armchair fan.

At Arsenal we also managed "your a saint and you know it" - to walcott, and a rendition of celtics Wanayama chant. There was no "one Artur Boruc" however, and I feel this directly contributed to his performance.

Pretty sure I warned at the time that paying subscription for this service in England would bite people in the arse. I'm sorry its ruined your dubai get togethers though... can you at least get the dodgy streams out there or is this going to severely ruin your saints watching abilities?
