Clearly some of us supported the team in the lower leagues, and some of us were armchair supporters. Because Lallana was in team of the year in both League 1 and Championship... Also, I am slightly confused by "look at how long it took lallana to be even remotley effective in the championship" - 1 season, 1 team of the year? Its like the myth pedalled about It being obvious we needed a new goalkeeper for years before we were promoted. Kelvin was in 3 consecutive team of the years But we needed better!!!! Obviously!!! He just wasn't good enough for us, even then! That said, your point about ramirez and having the balls and abilty to take risks is exactly sport on... The fans that knock him would probably like a team of 11 Carricks to pass the ball in horizontal lines for 90min

Where are the wingers in our formation? Please show them to me... and if we wanted them we would use Rowe or Sinclair rather than spunk on ince.... We have minimum 9th in the bag bar a bad injury crisis. Go for cup and be happy with that. Although, after MoPo's comments it seems he may throw the cup away

Hats off to Boruc you mean.

First thing to do in the summer, get poch to sign. Second ****ing thing to do is replace our donkey of a keeper. His opposite number today would do nicely please. When he's bad he's bloody appallingly ****.

I think it hurt Nigel the most to play us with Reading last season, and to see what MoPo did with his team, and how much more effective they were. People mistake Nigel's colloquial talk as a sign that he lacks the tactical ability to succeed at this level. When in truth he had a similar record to MoPo once he had settled into the premier league, and before all the new transfers. It also appears as though the transfer comittee signed Wanayama, lovren and ramirez. Osvaldo was the only signing to be attributed to MoPo So in summary, I think Nigel would have had the same team to work with, plus 15m better spent on another player. was he as good tactically as MoPo is now, perhaps not, But would he be a different manager if he came back to saints, 100% yes, he would have changed and would have improved! I doubt the two managers would have that different a points total this season with these teams.... And we would have had a hell of a lot less injuries under Adkins. So, if MoPo left, I'd take Nigel back for sure. The bloke has unfinished business, he will do it in the prem with a team sometime soon and I'd rather he did it at saints. The bloke loves us, and we love him. So why the hell not!

http://www.shekicks.net/flog/blogs/post/919 Never Knew our ladies were so good. Record for FA Cup wins only recently surpassed by the Arse, and our U16's sound impressive. Sign them up! P.s. How many people did this title catch out

Article on the Beeb about brighton announcing a £14.7m loss for the annual accounts, and an £8m for last financial year. Really puts it into perspective how important being able to rely on youth players is for us as a club. Realistically, they had a tiny wage bill compared to us in league 1, with minimal income from the withdean. Yet despite the very large boost in turnover they've had in moving to the Amex they look to have hit their glass ceiling and stalled (perhaps). In comparison, we had a net transfer spend of circa £3m under Adkins (thanks directly to the youth academy) which saw us through to two promotions. We are now reaping the benefit of it in the top flight to further push our progress and if we can continue producing players of the level they currently are it gives us a massive advantage over the other top 6 rivals? Those we may sell (shaw) will go for circa £20-£25m, our wage bill is smaller, we can fill the squad positions with no transfer fees and no low agent costs, and we have a great team spirit and loyalty. Granted Brigton aren't everton, tottenham etc.. But they are another team we have left behind relative to where we were, and if we are trully in a race with teams like tottenham, everton, liverpool, newcastle, dare I say united? then producing the next walcott, shaw, oxlade, bale () gives us a massive leg up on those teams in one respect. They can have all the sponsorship they want if we get the players for free

Saints long term deal with adidas to be terminated?
Saint86 replied to doggface's topic in The Saints
Best kits we've had for me (in no particular order) are this seasons home and away, championship home, the sash, and that beautiful brazil kit that we got to wear for 2 seasons but could only buy for one season Last years home was a god awful vomit inducing pinstripe monstrosity. Literally think it is my least favourite kit and it is beyond me how it is as popular as it seems to be, but hey, personal choice So anyway, of my favourite kits I plopped for stripes once, and my absolute favourite kits have been sash, championship home and this years home kit. Kits are associated with how well the team play, hence why stripes have lost their popularity in recent years. 2 relegations, championship mediocrity before that, and the disappointment of failed promotion pushes in championship and league 1. The sash was like watching miss universe elegantly **** all over other teams, and we are playing quality football in this years kit. I imagine its a similar reason for why Zerox is so good, if the team had been ****, that kit would not be so popular... And likewise, the championship promotion stripes is a great kit for many people.... we were never out of the top 2 all season -
What do you want to bet he just made up some quotes? That or he has a dossier on all of the above posters.... call the police!

The same best english right back who is being kept out of the team by young chambers? Honestly, we don't even thrash the worst team in the league and all of the sudden Southampton are going to win the world cup. This place swings from depression over cortese to we are unbeatable after beating a soon to be relegated side.
-
I personally prefer the new kit (minus the gold)... The era of hapless southampton has gone, we are now the red and white wasp like team, hassling the opponent at every turn and buzzing with energy, enthusiasm, hard work and attack attack attack. We are not sunderland or stoke... and stripes was not our original kit. Therefore, new dawn, new kit. Lets rumble!
-
You are asking the wrong question.... Name decent english qualifying ball winning midfielders... Jack Cork, Morgan, Gareth Barry? James Milner I'm stuck In all seriousness.... Jack deserves a cap in one of the upcoming friendlies... However, if Poch is going to drop him for the kenyan donkey upon his immediate return to fitness what chance does he have of playing for england.
-
JWP will not reach that level. And wilshire will never reach his potential. Has a ready made excuse for everything, plays up all the time and has an all round horrendous attitude. I honestly think you are more likely to have a mixture of AL, JC, RB, JW and AOC in england's midfield. Prowse has good technique, next carrick maybe (Spain, just like barcelona, must be shivering at that prosepect )

Whats wrong about a lunctime kick off? Beats being stuck on a train platform at 3am surely?

Please stop quoting Barry.

Quite excited! In fact, haven't been this excited about a first start for a saints player in a long time!

Gallagher is quality. How many people don't actually watch the team or follow the kids? The lad has a very bright future indeed and we will be seeing a lot more of him. As usual a large portion of the saints web massive need to catch up with the times... just like people questioning whether shaw was ready last season or stating chambers is rubbish compared to clyne etc etc... Gallagher has far more potential and ability than reed (a good player in the making), and has shown more of it in his brief glimpses... Yet some on here talk about reed as if he is the second coming waiting to happen... Just like the hype over warde prowse, who is a tidy technical player with a good work rate and can hit a tidy dead ball.... "the next gerrard" for some... We could do far worse than have gallagher up front tommorrow... Jayrod has yet to do it for the club as a lone striker, and after that I'm struggling to imagine something other than a 4-4-2 with Guly and Rodders up front Also if lambert is actually out, I wonder if young Ryan will make the bench, although Arsenal would be to much for him I suspect. Great potential in the kids, yet people write them off far to easily.

Rumours of Monaco being in for him to replace RF. Pretty sure they would pay a few bob.

FA Cup 5th round draw thread (Sunderland Away)
Saint86 replied to rickylambert's topic in The Saints
I'd like sunderland at home, and for everyone to kick the actual crap out of their players.... propper cup tie like.... But with a score to settle. Injure enough of them and we can get fair payment for them, poyet, and hopefully get the bastard relegated. -
Begrudging thanks to Rupert Lowe and Southampton City Council
Saint86 replied to spyinthesky's topic in The Saints
always destined to go in one direction... He also doubled the ground capacity, built the countries top youth academy, got us to an fa cup final and Europe... All on a shoestring budget. His only weakness was that he scripmed on managers and wouldn't overspend until it was too late. People knock him fine, but where we are now there is little bad about RLs management of the club and a bell of a lot to be grateful for. He built everything that is positive about the future, the liebherrs could walk 2m and the club would continue because of what Lowe built. If only he could have kept( rather than fallen out) GS, GH or NP's class we would have done well. Yet ironically our fans refer to him as some kind of devil. A tad harsh. -
Damit, I concede, thought I had you... schoolboy On a side note, what do you make of Inter pulling out of the exchange deal with Juve since osvaldo headbutted Fonte. Interesting no?
-
I'm afraid that's incorrect mathew... Honestly, tut tut! Sub fonte and shaw for fox and yoshi + resting adam after first half (3) Bring in Lambo + JRod + Morgan for Gallagher, guly and JWP (3) Bring in victor towards the end (1) Whichever option of the above you chose... its 3 subs, plus victor - that's 4 substitutions? Or am i struggling with 3+1 =3? Now.... On the subject of maths.... Following Osvaldo's headbut, inter have immediately done this... Is the deal back on with regards to the osvaldo-Guarin swap, or is this a case of 1+1 doesn't = 2?? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2545124/The-Continental-Breakfast-Juventus-furious-Inters-lack-respect-Vucinic-Guarin-swap-U-turn.html

Another thread where I have to disagree with you. Wellbeck can't hit a barn door at 4 paces half the damn time (If I wasn't at work I would look up the stats for you for both players!). As for chambers, the kid is class... to say he is nowhere near clyne's level is madness. There really isn't much in it to be honest.

So get rid and sign ings and top ince? What we should have done in the first damn place.
