January 2014 Transfer news & rumours
KelvinsRightGlove replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
Personally, I really don't think he is as good as the hype he seems to get on here. Could of course be proved wrong and he may do very well, but I'm not going to be too upset (for now) that we haven't seemingly made any attempt to go after him. May be a crude indicator, but looking at the teams that were in for him, Sunderland, Hull Palace suggests he's not (right now at the very least) at the level I would like us to be looking at. -
Surely too the govt and security agencies and are in a position of trust too. What Snowden has exposed is that that position has been badly abused.

Would you change positons with Sunderland?

We are very much the exception, not the rule. Look at Sheffield Wednesday/United, Derby (may soon arrest that), Leicester (same) Leeds, Notts Forest, Middlesborough, Charlton, Birmingham, Bolton, Wolves, Coventry, Bradford amongst others that have gone done and never made it back. It was fun under Liebherr/Cortese, but less so prior to that. I'd take mid-table Prem over mid-table Championship any day. -

6th, I think. Either way, yes you are right. You only get a Europa League place for winning the League Cup, not reaching the Final. -
Hey Barry, do you fall down a lot?
-
The thing that really irks me about the "if you have nothing to hide" argument is that agreement to that, implicit or explicit, is agreement to a fundamental shift in the 'social contract'. Supposedly, in a Liberal Democracy you are innocent until proven guilty. Accepting the line, "if you have nothing to hide" is accepting that everyone is guilty, until they prove themselves innocent. Which is my problem with that argument, and all this NSA crap.

So the players you want out, are leaving, and that's something to worry about?
-
Yeah, jut noticed this. Apologies.

Lol, ol' Crooky is all over it guys Alex Goring Crook @alex_crook 1m #saintsfc defender Danny Fox has joined #nffc on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer #transfers

I imagine with the emergence of Chambers the plan would be to stick Clyne at LB in the case of Shaw being injured/unavailable. Also, is this the one out MP hinted at post-Arsenal?
-
Eh? This about them being attacked in prison or appealing? I'm confused.

In some ways, given the OP I would say, yeah why not? If we had our team and just a straight swap in positions I would feel confident this squad is good enough to keep us up from Sunderlands position. We are probably not hugely likely to go up more than a place or 2 anyway now. And, a crack at a cup would be great. That said, I would not take a cup over our Premiership position. Whilst a cup final is great, I'd much rather Saints were playing at the top level, against the best clubs week in week out - every season. Staying in the top league allows you to attract better players, and ofcourse keep the better players of our very productive academy. The longer this continues, the more likely we are to see cup success. You don't see many non-Premier League teams winning the cups. Are Wigan any better off for winning the FA Cup last year? For me it's about the development of the club and our future, not just the instant gratification of a single cup win. I love the way things are at the moment (clappy alert), we have a young team, with a healthy chunk of academy bred players, and in addition a few british purchases and also some really quality imports too. We play some stunning football at times, even if we are also frustrating at times too, under a young manager that does things in a way I like (see post re: differing tactics 4-6-0 vs starting an 18y/o on Wednesdays Game Thread). I don't think if we went down, that would continue, and given the crap we endured in the Championship (pre-Liebherr/Cortese) I'd take mid-table mediocrity anyday. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. So, no basically, I wouldn't. -
The reason I like having someone like MP instead of Allardyce was evident last night. They've been without strikers through injury this season, but he goes to effectively playing 4-6-0. Last night Saints play the league leaders, 2 strikers out, MP chucks in an 18 year old. Surely WH have someone in the youth teams that could have had a go? They have a pretty good history of bringing through players. Big Sam on the other hand, I can't think of many kids he's really ever brought through? There's probably some I'm sure, but doesn't exactly have a huge long list you can reel off. Not saying one is right or wrong, he's done well tonight getting a point at Chelsea, so fair play even if it is awful to watch.

Can't say happy about walker having been talking him up recently.

With PSG & Monaco flashing the cash around (€250m for Messi FFS) Platini and co will never do anything about FFP.
-
Nope nothing, exact same as what I got.

Oh nice one. Thanks. So, do I just put that around the link of what I'd want to embed? Apologies, I'm not too great at this stuff I've tried a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to work

Yeah, was one of my faves for 2012. That said, I like all their albums, and Baldi's sideproject Chomp. If you are on Spotify their album, Buddha Jabba Momma, is well worth a listen (and much better than the crap name). Sorry if you are already aware and I've wasted your time.

Looking forward to this, being NW London native it's pretty easy for me. Unfortunately, I will be in the home end - left my Fulham supporting mate to sort tickets, and he did that instead of neutral, ****. Oh well, he will have to put up with a more inebriated and obnoxious KRG than usual, as it will be my first day back on the booze post dry-jan. Unlucky lad. Got to be winning this game though, anything like a performance like last night from Cork/Morgan and Fulham are going to be in trouble. Can't see Sidwell & Parker being much of a match, we can really over-run them in the middle. Just need to be ruthless, which granted isn't our strong suit.

He did say about half way through, something like "I understand you" - so possibly? That's how I saw it. -
Would be good if embedding from SoundCloud could be made possible? Would be beneficial for the arts fourm perhaps. Not sure how viable it is, but thought it was worth suggesting at the very least. Thanks

Very excited that one of my favourite bands, Cloud Nothings, are putting out a new album very soon. Plus, a tour to come - highly recommend their stuff, and getting out to see them if you can. Ps, we should pester mods to get soundcloud embedding to work pps soundcloud works yo! [soundcloud] [/soundcloud]
