  1. Mainly on the grounds that if a Republican President does it now, a Democrat could do it later. However, Trump is certainly testing the limits of the Constitution and the Federal structure of the country. He is increasingly hacking away at the principle of three equal and independent branches of Government, providing checks and balances to each other.
  2. Interesting test of the independence of individual States from Federal control or interference. It will all come down to whether the Supreme Court agrees with the Trump administration, ( hhmmm, how likely is that I wonder ), that there is sufficient evidence of a 'rebellion' or 'insurrection' that would grant the Constitutional authority for Federally mandated deployment of National Guard troops from other states. ( Washington DC being a different case, as it is directly managed by the Federal Government. Mind you, the NG deployed there have been spending most of their time litter picking and mowing grass verges ).

To borrow your phrase, "Please show me where". You have been asked before, and by other posters in relation to their own posts, to present the evidence of where your so superior intellect has "shown" me "up". I understand that as this air of superiority only exists in the Walter Mitty mythical world, detatched from much of reality, that you inhabit, it might prove problematic to provide actual links, so why not not take the easier path and admit you can't.

There is one President with the ability to stop the Ukraine war within 2 hours - the President of Russia. However, he can't afford to lose face.

"A Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, which began its first phase this week, could have been implemented over a year ago, an independent Israeli negotiator revealed. Gershon Baskin, who negotiated the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011, revealed in The Times piece that Hamas agreed to the exact same terms as early as September 2024 during the final months of the Biden administration. Baskin said that while Hamas accepted the deal in writing and in voice messages, the Israeli government, led by then-Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, refused to act. “This deal could have been done a long time ago,” Baskin wrote, noting that American officials also failed to push for its adoption. According to Baskin, U.S. negotiators, including Brett McGurk, were frustrated in their attempts to convince the Biden administration to consider the plan. “In Doha, the Qataris said they could do nothing more without the American adoption of the plan; the obstacle was Israel,” he added. Baskin said that Israeli officials had no intention of concluding a deal before a U.S. administration change. On December 26, 2024, he met with Ronen Bar, then head of Shin Bet, who told him not to use back channels, hinting that a ceasefire would be finalised “in three weeks” under President Trump. Baskin then established a back channel with Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, believing that Trump could compel Netanyahu to accept the agreement." https://caliber.az/en/post/deal-between-israel-and-hamas-was-ready-a-year-ago-says-negotiator

My post was a comment on the peace agreement as a whole and it's chances of success, given some people are lauding Trump as the man who has single handedly solved the Middle-East. If all Hamas held hostages and Israeli held detainees are free by Sunday we will still be on step 2 or 3 of a 20 point roadmap. With nearly 80 years of hindsight to rely on, I reserve the right to he sceptical.

Why not revisit this discussion in 6 months and then see whether the 'peace' has held and things are taking a turn for the better.

Seeing as nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize closed in January, it is unlikely Donnie was on the list.
  14. 30% might still give a majority, with the right spread of results, with 4 major parties splitting votes between them many seats could be won with as little as 26%. Labour got less than 34% at the last GE.

  16. Bah humbug. Another program I have absolutely no intentiion of watching. Can't abide "reality" TV, and avoid 'celebrity' shows like the plague.

Let's wait and see. This may well bring a halt to the current destruction, but there are an awful lot of pitfalls ahead. How many previous middle-east peace agreements have there been ? Not dissing Trump, but I'm not sure either side, as yet, can be trusted. This will take years, even if everybody is being completely open and honest.

Police have made arrests in both investigations. In the Kettring case the man is said to be a 'British Asian' - many such are not Muslim, in which case it would not be 'friendly fire', and even within the Muslim community there is a lot of hatred and violence between the branches of the Faith globally.
