  1. But he was the catalyst for the whole shebang, and played a prominent role in the Brexit campaign. As the interview continued, "How many people were influenced to vote leave on the basis of that 'mistake' ?"
  2. Susanna Reid to Nigel Farage "So will the £ 350 million go to the NHS as promised ?" Farage replies "It was a mistake to say that."
  3. DC goes.
  4. Bet the Gibraltarians feel shafted.
  5. Comments under that tweet referring to Remain voters as 'traitors' show how the announcement of the result, whichever way it goes, will leave a huge divide in the country.
  6. A perfect example of why FPTP is not democratic, the majority view is suppressed by manipulation of the system.
  7. Got a leaflet through the door today informing me that our road is one of those most likely to vote to leave, which is strange as most of our neighbours are, AFAIK, in the Remain camp, ( including all 4 votes in our house ). As soon as the chap who delivered it had gone back through the front gate I went out, tore it up, and put it in the bin, whistling La Marseillaise, knowing that he was still within earshot.

There's always that first time that England lose to a team.
  9. And were you surprised to discover this ?
  10. Does anybody actually believe anything either side have put out in the last few weeks ?

Any chance somebody could email a copy of the rules of football to the referees ? The Croatian GK was easily 2 yards off his line before the Spanish penalty was taken.
  12. Yet presumably you are willing to believe all the guff coming from Farage, BoJo, Gove, and IDS.
  13. I wouldn't have an issue with that, but suspect I am certainly in the minority. I think there is still too much in the British psyche that views the pre WW2 global map as where we belong.

    Not good enough.
  16. The commissioners do not make up laws. They do make proposals, but these have to be debated, amended, voted on, and accepted by the EU Parliament and the Council of Ministers, and individual national Governments. https://fullfact.org/europe/eu-facts-behind-claims-brussels-bureaucrats/ "Crucially, the Commission has only a limited role in EU law-making. It can decide some less important rules, and in general it is the only institution that can propose new laws, but it doesn’t have the power to pass them on its own. Professor Kassim says that many of the proposals that it brings forward have been requested by national political leaders. And there is no guarantee that a Commission proposal will become a law. The authority to make law belongs to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. The Parliament is directly elected by EU citizens every five years. The Council of the European Union, sometimes called the Council of Ministers, is where representatives of all 28 member countries negotiate. These two institutions debate, amend and pass EU law. Each one has a veto."

  19. Ain't that the truth.
  20. Not according to Autocar, ( and if they do end up moving production to Slovakia, they are in the EU ); http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-land-rover-defender-due-2019 http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/manufacturer-news/2015/12/09/vauxhall-signs-procurement-deal-with-28-police-forces-for-fleet-cars "28 UK Police forces have signed the UK's largest ever emergency vehicle procurement deal for the supply of more than 3,000 vehicles over the next two years. The group tender includes the supply of cars from Vauxhall, Volvo and BMW, as well as Ford and Vauxhall vans." The European Court of Auditors (ECA), an EU body set up to examine the accounts of the Union, signed off on the 2014 accounts as reliable—something it's done for every set of figures since 2007. But it did find that payments made were materially affected by error. ( https://fullfact.org/europe/did-auditors-sign-eu-budget/ ) You really should read a bit more widely.

  24. http://recruitingtimes.org/news/12211/cbi-projects-1-million-fewer-jobs-post-brexit-young-worst-hit/ CBI says that post-brexit, apprenticeships and graduate jobs will suffer and that its Commonwealth partners have said they will reduce investment.
  25. The north of England will be fine, thank you very much. We'll just join the Scots when they secede from the Union and stay in the EU, and leave the 'softy southerners' to wallow in their misery under a BoJo / Farage joint leadership.
