  1. I find that to be a common fault with modern 'blockbusters', and suspect it's as much to do with the drive to use 3D wherever possible as any issue with a specific film.
  2. IMO you don't have a timeline that diverges from the point at which Nero's ship passes through the blackhole - you have 2 almost parallel timelines that diverged earlier, and ran roughly along the same lines with minor deviations. The point about Kirk's birth shows that the appearance of Nero is not the point at which this separation occurs. This can therefore also account for changes to the relative timelines of the main protaganists of Into Darkness, who meet in TOS in SD2267, but Into Darkness starts on SD2259.55.
  3. Did it ? Whilst the dates of his birth are the same, in TOS Kirk is born on Earth in Iowa, in the reboot his mother is already in labour on the USS Kelvin in deep space, just as Nero's ship appears.
  4. WRT Into Darkness - I think the only safe way to approach the franchise is to remember that this is a parallel timeline, rooted in the period before TOS, therefore any preconceptions derived from preceding productions are based on events that might never have happened, or at least not in the same way, in this universe. The disappointment for me was JJ just seemed obsessed with inserting as many points of homage to TREK 2 as possible. Notwithstanding, as a kick-ass sci-fi effects films, it is very good.
  5. The best source of fuel for an Internet discussion board.
  6. Not sure that many on here would view Gazza as our most effective keeper.
  7. Would it have been better to not have the resurrection ? To break that umbilical to the original universe, and establish a truly independent new timeline, rather than produce a remake/ merger of an episode from TOS and a previous film.
  8. I think it's easier to consider the attack than the defence. What formation would this team be playing ?
  9. Parachute payment ? Isn't the increase in TV revenues where the 'extra' money they quoted a couple of months ago comes from ?
  10. There are only 2 people who now the truth regarding the talks and relationship between K Leibherr & N Cortese, and neither is going to tell anybody else.
  11. Come on Saints, don't let my lucky 55 mile bike ride go to waste.
  12. 2009-2010 : Hull,Burnley,Skates Barring a 23 goal GD swing between Hull and WHU it was all over after 36 games.
  13. So, is this an apparent "Muslim" thing or a "Pakistani" thing ?
  14. In Rochdale MBC it's just under 10% of the population, in the town centre it's nearer 20%. And remember this predominantly seems to be a problem for British born men of Pakistani origin, not the wider Muslim population.
  15. Thanks for adding such an informed comment to the debate.
  16. Perhaps not en masse, but London is the largest international financial market for the Euro zone - if we leave, the Germans & French won't let that continue.
  17. True.
  18. He truly doesn't have a clue. The problem with education in this country is that everybody involved in the sector within central Government, ( whatever political persuasion ), obsesses with 'reforming' and 'improving', and leaving their own mark on history during their short tenure within whatever the Department calls itself this month. Most of these people have no experience of working in the sector, their last experience of the classroom was the last day of 6th form. None of the changes are ever given time to bed in before being declared as failures, if indeed they are ever actually needed. ( This is not solely my opinion, it is also shared by most of the teachers I know, including the one I'm married to ).
  19. I'm not letting Trousers monopolise this thread : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22536437 "UK unemployment has risen to 2.52 million, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said." ".....an ONS spokesman told the BBC the figures suggested the recent period of falling unemployment "seems to have come to an end"."
  20. Is there a variation of Godwin's Law whereby any Internet forum thread, if running long enough, will inevitably end up including a quote from WSC ?
  21. On the basis that all of our pet skates seem to have voted no, he should definitely stay.
  22. Are you any better at predictions than Dalek ?
  23. If Villa beat Wigan then 35 points and a GD of -26 or better would have kept you up.
  24. So, 39 points would have been enough after all.
  25. So, to summarise : David Cameron makes a pledge to the British public that if the Tories win the next election, and if he can re-negotiate the terms of our EU membership, we will get an In/Out vote. ( No mention of what happens if he cannot re-negotiate ). Now we have a group of Tory MPs who obviously don't understand the compromises necessary when in coalition with a pro-EU partner, who also don't seem to trust that DC will deliver on his promise, and want to go against all precedent and introduce an amendment to their own Government's Queen's Speech. In response, DC instructs his Conservative Cabinet members that they must abstain in the vote on the QS amendment, he then drafts a pointless 'Bill' that will try to place the In/Out vote on the statute books, and is now casting around for a back bencher to promote it as a Private Members' Bill, that will fail due to lack of Parliamentary time, ( and the fact that the LDs would vote against it with Labour, should it ever get that far ). What a shambles.
