It was only 2-0 in the second half.

Well, if as the commentators say many of the Saints players are looking tired, then why the f*ck doesn't Hughes get some fresh legs on? And why are they tired anyway? Don't they train properly?
-
commentator says Shane Long not the quickest? Idiot

what do we reckon? 10-0?

This is already becoming farcical. Here is Romeu? We need more heavyweight players in the midfield, not J W-P and Redmond

Bloody Hoedt

I would have Romeu as the midfield backstop with Lemina and Hojbjerg as attacking midfielders ahead of him. My only reservation is that Romeu is sometimes prone to giving away free kicks on the edge of the box. Lemina also lacks consistency, sometimes very good, sometimes seeming to not bother that much. But if you have all three on the pitch, with two strikers, where do you play a creative player? That is more a problem when you have a more talented player like Tadic, rather than Elyounoussi, Redmond or J W-P. I would feel inclined to believe that both Lemina and Hojbjerg are better able to win the midfield and then put through the balls to the strikers than the others. It could work with a 4-3-3, Romeu sitting deeper than Lemina and Hojbjerg, with Ings in the middle of Gabbiadini and Redmond/J W-P. As it stands, Armstrong hasn't yet proved to be Davis' replacement, Elyuonoussi isn't a Tadic replacement, Vestergaard or Hoedt don't replace Van-Dijk, Redmond doesn't really replace anybody, and we have't after all this time properly replaced Pelle, even with Ings in my opinion. The only areas where we have par arguably, is with Lemina and Hojbjerg against Wanyama and Schneiderlin, and by taking Crystal Palace's reject goalkeeper McCarthy and a rookie good prospect youngster, Gunn, we have two better goalkeepers than Forster.
-
When you have both Hojbjerg and Lemina available, both are equally adept at roving forward and Hojbjerg also looks dynamic and dangerous in space, with probably the better shot from distance on him.
-
Yes, you're right. I got the impression that on MOTD they had said it was Redmond, but having seen the highlights on the Saints site, it was clearly Elyounoussi. As I said earlier, what exactly is the point of him? Redmond should have made the return pass to Ings though when he was in space central to the goal, but he shot over instead.
-
The three points would have been in the bag if Redmond either had a football brain / was a team player. Austin would have had the easiest of tap-ins, had Redmond played the easiest pass to Austin who was standing just a few yards to his left clear of any defenders. Instead Redmond thought the easier option was to go for goal when their keeper had his near post well covered and with a tight angle to the far post. There were several other half chances which could have been converted with the rub of the green, but Redmond's was the gold plated one, and I hope that his team mates gave him a rollicking for not allowing Austin to take it for the team.

Thanks Badger. I hadn't heard anything. Glad it's not an injury, as he is one player actually getting better with each game instead of going backwards like most of the others.
-
Where is Hojbjerg? Is he injured? He is one player who could have made a difference today, because there were at least a couple of opportunities to have shot from outside the box with a clear sight of goal. Lemina MOTM in midfield without him, Romeu a reasonable deputy, but does not bring what Hojbjerg is beginning to show consistently. Overall, it wasn't the wrist slashing dross that some on here are inferring; we played quite well generally, but lacked the cutting edge up top to put away several chances that we carved out. It is becoming well known that we create more chances than most other teams apart from the top 4 or 5, but our finishing is dire. Today we would have improved our chances with a play-maker producing the killer defence splitting ball into feet in the box, but we sold that player to Ajax in the Summer and his replacement hasn't got it. Ings, Gabbiadini, Austin and Long all seem to be lacking in the confidence and the ability to score goals at the moment. Ings puts himself about, but often goes too deep to pick up balls, instead of being in the box on the end of them. Austin is a goal poacher whose final touch is deserting him and today he even shied away from having a pop himself and failed in his passes to a team mate no better placed than him. A striker afraid to shoot on a half chance from lack of confidence is not much good. Long shouldn't any longer be considered a striker, but has his uses in a team because of his pace, chasing lost causes and getting stuck in to win back the ball. Defensively we at least give the appearance of improvement, having kept clean sheets the last couple of matches, but again, McCarthy was virtually a spectator today. Both Stephens and Hoedt looked solid today, Cedric and Bertrand OK out wide, but Cedric better than Bertrand offensively. Redmond and Elyounoussi switched wings a couple of times, Redmond being more of a nuisance in attack, but with little end result, flattering to deceive. As stated earlier, Elyounoussi adds little compared to what Tadic did, so what is the point of him? I don't refute the substitutions as the introduction of fresh legs and a different type of player to see whether that made any difference, but it didn't. Chances continued to present themselves, but the inability to finish them also persisted. As well as the lack of shooting prowess, we lack the pace on the break that would stretch defences. Mane is exactly the type of player that we don't have any longer, so our attacks are pedestrian, allowing defences to get back in numbers. I'm already in the camp that says that unless we are well clear of the bottom 4 by the end of the year, we shouldn't hesitate again in appointed another manager before we end up not having enough time to turn things around like we did this past season. We have had a relatively easy run of early season matches and should have gained far more points. Not having done so, leaves us short of confidence and belief, which will be exacerbated if we suffer a string of heavier defeats at the hands of the top clubs. I suspect that our last manager but one will inflict his usual defeat on us on Tuesday, just to rub salt into the wounds. Against City, we will hold them heroically to a draw until the last minute of extra time, when Sterling will score.

Up there? Do you live south of here? The game will be decided by a long range goal from either Shelvey or Hojbjerg.

Is English your second language, or have you been on the juice?

I really do believe that you have serious mental issues, posting at that time in the morning to spout the same old juvenile playground insults. Were you a bully at school to cover up some inadequacy you had? You need to get your anger issues addressed. Seek help. It isn't just me that you throw these puerile insults at, it's pretty well everybody who disagrees with you. The number of posters who bother to engage in debate on this thread is steadily declining. Soon you'll just be talking to yourself. As you say, there is little point in me posting here just to antagonise you.
-
More insults. Where did I say that you were uncomfortable with a second referendum? That's right; I didn't. He has you and your ilk banged to rights because he has you down to a tee. Only you really have any idea about what motivates your fellow citizens, but apparently they don't even know what motivates themselves. As Pat says, how entitled must you be?
-
Angered you, did it? Hence the usual triggered insult response when somebody's got you banged to rights. How entitled must you be, eh?

I thought that you might enjoy watching this. It's almost as if he knows you and was directing it straight at you.

We earned a good away point against a top six side. This is a Bournemouth side in a good run of form, noted this season for playing pacey attacking football. But on balance we were better than them in the first half and pretty level in the second half. Tactically matching their 4-4-2 suited us, as Hojbjerg and Lemina were strong together. When Lemina went off, Hughes kept us strong there with Armstrong and also did the right thing by boldly substituting both Ings and Austin for Long and Gabbiadini, who both had chances to gain all three points. Of the two keepers, McCarthy had a relatively relaxed afternoon. Begovic was the one being kept on his toes. Hojbjerg man of the match again. He really is growing in stature and his prowess at long range shots is getting him noticed. I hope that Lemina isn't badly injured, as he is forming a good partnership with Hojbjerg. The back line was good today and must be pleased with the clean sheet. As mentioned in the first half, Elyounoussi was fairly invisible, as we favoured attacking down the left. At times though, Redmond would switch over to the right and he was as effective with Cedric as with Bertrand on the left. He still lacks consistency though, and often loses the ball in promising positions. He is a handful though, so could well improve with time. Leaving the stadium, the Saints fans will be feeling much the happier of the two sets of fans. For all that the momentum on the South Coast favours them at the moment, they would need to be beating us at home to have bragging rights over us.

A pretty good showing from us first half. We've bossed the midfield because there has been plenty of space there. We've played far more up the left flank than the right. Elyounoussi out there hasn't done much, but hasn't had many balls played his way. Hoedt and Stephens have been solid against King and Wilson so far, but the midfield hasn't allowed that much to penetrate that far. Carry on like this and Bournemouth are going to get frustrated. The commentators have said that B'mouth have benefited from not having had as many players away on international duty, and that our players might tire, but I don't accept that, as sometimes playing more is an advantage. In any event, if any player tires, there are always subs.

Not one single ounce of regret

My thoughts too

I would make a Skate cake, but would pee in the batter.
-
If as you say there was a foul preceding the second one, then as Bertrand subsequently rode it and progressed towards the box, surely he should have played the advantage. So then he's a **** for not doing that.
-
Bertrand was precise when he placed the ball where the free kick should have been taken, just outside the area. The referee got it badly wrong and of course issued the card for dissent towards his decision. If he reviews his performance, then he will see what a prize **** he has been. It brings to mind another match against Chelski when Willian was awarded a free kick against us, took it a good 10 yards forward and scored from it. Had it been taken in the correct place, the shot was probably not on.
