You still have not answered my question; have another go Andy; Would Aids be so widespread if we all followed the Catholic Churches guidance on sex before marriage and staying faithful during marriage? Would there be such a demand for abortions if people were a little bit more selective on their partners? Being actively gay is a lifestyle decision. Just like choosing not to have sex before marriage.

Joe you are very sensitive.
-
its amazing how anything that does not fit is 'inaccurate and heavily biased'!

It boils down to the fact that I believe that somebody representing a Billion people's Faith should vbe afforded the same status as the leader of another country. I am not a Catholic but I am delighted for my fellow Catholic citizens can have their moment and am happy to pay the 22p for him to come over. Looks like we will not agree. What I find distasteful is people on here who are not able to distinguish between being accused and being guilty and the tedious moralism spouted by some posters.
-
Sounds like a family fortunes survey to me! Have you ever been asked? The Pope is a figurehead for 1 billion people; he is the person that represents them on the world stage. Do you not think if there was a gay leader who represented their community around the world he would not be afforded a State visit here.
-
Sorry your point is?

Look Joe I have not read the bible since School; there are lots of different interpretations but the Catholic Church represents a mainstream one. The argument of the thread was that we should not pay for the Pope to come to this country. I contested this argument based on the fact that he is the spiritual leader of 6m Brits and a billion people and in a multi faith society we should show him some respect. Being a Catholic is a lifestyle choice just like being Gay or ****ging around is; in my opinion the smear campaign and uproar directed at the visit is out of proportion and would not have been deemed acceptable if it had been aimed at Gay Pride or a Rabbi leader had visited. I think people should respect other people's lifestyle choices and it works both ways. As a Nation we should welcome spiritual leaders of the big faiths.

but the Scriptures have been the same for thousands of years! They have not been re written. You are right that we will end up all getting some new virus. In today's global village it will spread in months. There will probably be just a few Erskimos and Rain Forest Indians left.
-
How many Catholic Priests are there then? You are just joining the smear campaign. Try and think out of the box mate.
-
I have never heard this said by Catholics.
-
No because if you have less sex you will be very unlikley to get aids. Can you not see that Dune?
-
I am sorry what part of this are you struggling to understand; The Pope should have a State visit because he is the spiritual leader of 1 billion people. 6 Million of them in the UK. They have different views to you so you assume they are bigoted. Can you answer this question for me Andy; If people did not have sex before marriage or even became less promiscious. If people kept to one partner in a strong family unit would Aids have spread so quickly? Would there be the need for so many abortions?(that is yes or no answer Andy not whether you think people should have to or not). If you answer no then finally you are now able to see the 'bigoted' issues from a Catholics point of view.
-
No I am saying you should respect those people for whom their religion is very nimportant to them.
-
No I am simply telling you that you that I find the lynch mob hysterical reaction to a Papal visit is something that is more in place in Communist China than in a tolerant and free Britain.
-
Not ****ging around is more effective at preventing aids. Where is the NW? If we did not have one night stands then there would not be the need for abortions. What is wrong with thinking life is so sacred? As it happens I believe people should live their lives how they wish and that includes going to Church. I am not going to rush out and judge people quickly.
-
When you have a billion Catholics there are very likely to be bad apples. It is not exactly in their rule book is it. What do you suggest that we do with practising Catholics in this country; lock them up? Maybe send them for re-education like something in 1984?
-
You were advocating not affording the thousands and thousands of Catholics in this country the right to an official visit to this country of their spiritual leader. Do Catholics not have rights? You may not agree with these people's faith but you should respect their freedom to practise their religion. Would Aids be so widespread if we all followed the Catholic Churches guidance on sex before marriage and staying faithful during marriage? Would there be such a demand for abortions if people were a little bit more selective on their partners? You may not agree with this lifestyle but perhaps you should try and look at the argument from their perspective. Maybe their argument is not quite so absurd.
-
I am sorry Andy but your hypocrisy is astounding. You clearly do not subscribe to its teachings but do not respect those that do. You are the bigot. The Catholic Church is a cornerstone for millions and millions around the World and it is only right that its leader is given the appropriate treatment when he does visit. The Pope is a good man; you may disagree with his religion but do not demonise him. That Andy is intolerance.

Very very sad for you. It must be a terrible time.

The Good Old Days - but would you want them back?

This is spot on. The Dell was the Dell; St Marys is a souless plastic place with 50% less of the atmosphere of the Dell with 50% more people. Alan Hansen always said he hated the Dell the most as a player. No wonder we took so long to win at St. Marys. -
Britain is now the most over- populated country in the EU

It is easy to put us 50th if you include Wales & Scotland and all of the unproductive land. There is a chronic overpopulation in the South. Food security and water will be our children's big issues. You should not close your eyes to this. -
Sponsorship and Corporate Hospitality
Sergei Gotsmanov replied to Dave Benson Phillips's topic in The Saints
I think it is a lot more complex than that. We were hot favourites to get promoted and a lot of local buisiness's would want to be associated with this. -
The filming is always provocative and I find very confrontational. I think you will find that people would be just as angry at a rugby, cricket or even Polo. It amplifies the them and us status between football supporters and Police Officers. As somebody else mentioned, an individual Copper may be OK but in 2010 as an organisation the Police Force is incapable of identifying good and bad and recognising right and wrong.
