  1. Not shocking just poor. People were looking for scapegoats in a terrible season and in their eyes he got worse and worse. The crowd then drained him of his confidence. If he was worth £20m at the beginning of last season and is now worth £5m, then the crowd have effectively cost each season ticket holder £681. (Although they have taken Macarthy from being worth £3m to being worth £15m).
  2. Then why did he get picked for England?
  3. Finally a manager who will not be poached and can provide some stability
  4. He is a good footballer and a good guy to have around the club. It is people like him that made sure we did not just give up at the end of last season.
  5. Major upheavals are rarely a good thing for football clubs. Continuity is. I like Les - quietly gets on with his job behind the scenes without a big football ego. What would I have done differently? i probably would have listened to the senior players when they wanted Puel out. I would have panicked a bit earlier with Pellegrino but I get that Pellegrino was a nice guy and he wanted to give him more time. Signing the Argentinian was a mistake but he still might cut it. I don't think there were any players we have sold that we could have persuaded to stay. He was probably right about Koeman - it never works when the players know the manger is leaving. So hopefully he will be a little wiser and we can have a good season next season - my definition of a good season is not the same as the more ambitious on here of course!
  6. Jack Stephens has come through the ranks, has a good attitude and demonstrated he can score goals. I support Saints partly to watch players like him.
  7. I was in a queue at the petrol station with his mother and aunt. True story.
  8. He is an entertainer. I would like to see Hughes puts his arm round him and try to get the best out of him. It would be a good gauge of how good a manager he is.
  9. Why don't we keep them all? Better to concentrate on building a good team spirit and get another 15% out of them.
  10. Hughes will ensure several seasons of stability and mid table finishes. That suits me!
  11. Totally agree. I recall when we were struggling during a period under Koeman and somebody on here reported seeing Fonte, Stephen Davis, somebody else and Betrand in a pub, The implication was they were trying to sort it out. Part of the inner circle.
  12. I think that it was a six pointer and they went down
  13. I think the joke by the end of October was what is the difference between Southampton and a tooth pick - a tooth pick as got two points
  14. I recall a trip to the last season at Roker Park on a Tuesday night. Egil scored in the 18th minute and we held on.
  15. If you watch the goal against Everton you will see his reaction from the bench and conclude he was very much on board.
  16. If we had an underperforming squad that is now performing why do we need to threaten that by changing it all around again? Continuity generally leads to improvement under the right manager. Of course if I was fine tuning things I would get a decent centre back in. Otherwise try to keep the squad intact now it has a different mentality.
  17. I am afraid I am a product of another era. The first thing I do when the fixture list comes out is look at the run in. Call me unambitious but I would always be happy with mid table and a good cup run. When we punched above our weight we just had our managers and players poached. I would rather have a manager like Hughes who has demonstrated he can deliver results and will not leave to go to a big club.
  18. I think they will put in a shift for him.
  19. In fairness Winnersaint it was a legitimate question that I had tried to google - if I am watching a horse race I want to know who is running. If you feel the need to label me a dickhead then that is up to you but I am afraid that it makes you more of one than me. Of course in real life I find it unlikely that you are one.
  20. Cameron wanted to come back with a bit of paper to wave around like Chamberlain. The EU gambled that they would win the referendum and made him come back virtually empty handed.
  21. The Bournemouth game really felt like the Norwich game!
  22. Thanks for that. It is actually quite relevant if one of Swansea's best players is not playing.
  23. Is Jordon Ayew liable for a ban if he is found guilty of his challenge on Cahill?
  24. It is in nobody's interest to not get a deal signed so I am sure that we will. I am not naïve in thinking that our friends in the US will do us any favours but I think in time Brexit will give us more flexibility to operate in the global marketplace. I think if we had stayed in our voice would have been even weaker because the issue would have been settled. Ultimately I am pro business and if there is a sharp deterioration then I would be back in like a shot.
  25. I would not contest that immigration was the main factor. The rising population has implications for everybody. 70% is an interesting statistic but I think you have to look at each referendum individually. A vote to change gay marriage is always going to be easier to win that an independence vote for Scotland. For the bookmakers to give 7 to 1 in a two horse race indicates how most felt the vote would go. I would argue that this undoubtedly tipped the balance. It is the same factor that inflated the Labour vote in last years election - people felt they could vote Labour and still not get Corbyn.
